August 4, 201114 yr Pentagon’s Lightning Gun Sold for Scraps on eBay All of which would make for a funny little story, if that buyer didn’t discover that the multimillion dollar “Joint Improvised Explosive Device Neutralizers,” or JINs, were kluged together from third-rate commercial electronics, and controlled by open Wi-Fi signals. In other words, the Pentagon didn’t just overpay for a flawed weapon. On the off-chance the JIN ever worked, the insurgents could control it, too.
August 4, 201114 yr Anybody interested in a some F-16's or A-10's or an F-15? 110,000 pounds of aluminum? Not eBay, but an internet auction: link
August 5, 201114 yr Looks like those scraps would be good for making a kickass bar or maybe a traditional static display. Not good for much else. I hope.
August 5, 201114 yr Author Looks like those scraps would be good for making a kickass bar or maybe a traditional static display. Not good for much else. I hope. I think they would look great................ on a gunship target range.
August 5, 201114 yr I think they would look great................ on a gunship target range. When the decision was made to end the F-4 every jet that wasn't slated to become a QF-4 was stripped and hauled onto the 70 series at Nellis within a week. There were many General Officers in the block 50 mafia who absolutely wanted to make sure those F-4s never came back. Contrary to CH's sentiment, I remember no one wanted to drop on or strafe those airplanes...not even the block 50 guys. The F-4 had a long and proud history of serving this country and kicking ass in combat. For many years it was hard to imagine there would be a replacement, especially for the WW. Seeing those jets as targets after they had just been on the Nellis ramp a week earlier gave everyone a glimps of their own jet's mortality. FWIW

August 12, 201114 yr I'm looking at CUCV/CUTV and a trailer. M-101 trailer? That's what I'm looking at. You can check out www.ih8mud.com and see some pretty cool stuff dudes have done with those.
August 12, 201114 yr It would be nice if they listed Davis Monthan items. I wouldn't mind a box of instruments or a B-52 yoke.
August 12, 201114 yr They won it for $2300. I have seen private sales asking for $4500, once titled. Check out steelsoldiers.com if you want further details on various vehicles and the auction process. I would love to have one bobbed.
September 14, 201114 yr There's another govliquidation thread around here somewhere. If you find it, let me know so I can merge them. UTSF
September 14, 201114 yr That's a great idea.
