Is that quarter speed present arms an escort/ honor guard thing?

No. It is to honor those that have fallen. I've done that a few too many times while uploading/downloading HR.

Does anyone know if they used any non-actors in the film? (Such as the Captain/former A-10 pilot)

As cool as that would be, no. The former A-10 driver, along with pretty much every other military person on set, appears to be actors.

Edit: The A-10 pilots character's name is Tom Garrett.

As for the TVFreeload account it takes a couple seconds to register and you can watch almost any tv show that you want to.

For those with AFN, this is going to be shown on Saturday, 28 Mar, on AFN Movie channel.

Saw a replay of it tonight on AFN at Rota, and holy sh*t, what an excellent film. Incredibly emotional.

Just saw it. Wow.

The former A-10 pilot is Gordon Clapp, he played Medavoy on NYPD Blue.

That's how we did it in the Marines. We practiced Present Arms (and Order Arms) as a 3-second motion when we did funeral details. All other drill movements were slowed as well, with the exception of the rifle manual if we were giving a rifle salute.

As Coasta said, it's a gesture of respect.

I just finished watching this movie... very well done! I wish this aired on regular cable or came out in the theaters though so it would've reached a wider audience. I didn't even know about this movie until I saw this thread

Don't download this movie, buy the DVD!

I got it last week and just got the opportunity to watch it last night. I don't care about Capt Kirk or any other action flick that may come out this year, this is absolutely the very best movie of 2009 and one that every American should watch!

I just got my copy in the mail today...

I'm screening it for my fellow cadets for a Memorial Day LLAB coming up this week.

I picked up my copy at the BX today for $14.95 plus they had a 20% off coupon. It is an amazing movie and an amazing story.

It is by far the best DVD I have ever bought.

If you haven't seen it, Netflix has it available for rent with no wait. But I highly recommend buying it.

Finally watched Taking Chance after it sat on top of the TV for a couple of weeks. I regret letting it sit that long, but it turned out to be a good thing. I watched on the eve of Veterans Day, witch I thought was appropriate. Even my wife loved the movie. She had no idea the process invovled with getting a fallen soldier home, so it was an education for her.

If I had another thumb, I'd give it 3 thumbs up.

I got to be involved with a flight home several months ago, a deceased Marine and his escort travelling from LAX to IAH in the bottom of our 737-800. It was especially sentimental for me for a couple of reasons. I was an enlisted punk, so I wore my SSgt tie tack that day above my union pin. Although I spent four years in the Honor Guard at Bolling and have been to well over a thousand military funerals, It was so very nice to just stand there in the sun and render honors one more time. It was also my leg, so I got to fly him there - rolled it on, too. Lastly, I was able to get the GY/SGT upgraded to first class also, which made me feel good.

What a great country we live in that young men and women are willing to go serve, knowing that they may die.

PS - wear your uniform when travelling - I'll do everything I can to get you up front and I'm not the only one who does that.
