  1. They hit a tanker, actually. And although Doug was nervous about getting busted (Booms are taught to always look out for shady/suspicious pilots underneath their visor and mask), all he had to do was not talk like a sniveling teenage twat, and nobody noticed anything strange. Works every time.

Can't pull that stunt anymore though. Not since 9/11. Thanks a lot, bin Laden. :flipoff:

  2. Truly inspirational stuff. Each day at UPT, before our 0600 formal brief, we reminded each other that the reason we were inspired to do this in the first place was because of that epic film.

We also made it a point to bring along a Walkman so we could play some righteous tunes over the ICS on the way to the MOA.

  3. Maybe instead of a WTF thread, we should just make a WTF board...for the "What is wrong with the USAF", the "Gays in the Military", the "TIB" and other comparable threads to fester and fail in one gigantic NSFW Charlie Foxtrot.

    Edited for BBcode fail.

  4. I guess I never really thought about it, but now I'm wondering about it too. I'm guessing at a minimum, you'd have to be going someplace that can support a -38 (airport with LOA, UPT base, etc.), and the trip would have to be short enough so that you're not screwing over anybody else's currency based on aircraft availability back at Beale. Also, I could see commanders being leery of the appearance of FWA, bad publicity, or whatever, following the fiasco with the ANG F-16 commander.

Still, I'd like to hear more about it straight from somebody who's in the community.

  5. Earlier today I had a pretty generic question for finance. They apparently are gone for the day, so I called another base. And another. And another. I tried them all a couple of times, but Laughlin, McChord and Hickam seem to be MIA. Travis answered, and the airman was very helpful. As for the other bases...WTF, finance??

  6. Who sends out a Vol 3 worth of anecdotal and/or preachy spam, and expects anybody to actually read it, let alone take it to heart?

Faster/funnier, Chief. Don't let the message (on the off chance that it's actually useful) get burried in the other crap.

  7. Yeah, a little bit. I have a feeling that one of the most common mental blocks out there (among the "knowing it means you're a great leader" crowd) is the simplistic notion that people resist the Creed/Song simply because they don't know it, can't be bothered to learn it, or simply don't want to do it in public. I wonder how that misplaced, smug sense of cultural superiority would fare if somebody got Chiefed, recited the Creed/Song on command, and then politely explained to the REMF that his shitty priorities are laughable and counterproductive.

  8. non-rated badges are optional (there are a few exceptions)

I never understood why some are optional and some are not. It's your badge. It designates your job. Harden The Fvck Up and just wear it.

Then again, sometimes they are awarded for weird stuff. Like the jump badge (mandatory): go to the Zoo, jump out of a Twin Otter a handful of times and ta-da.

Also, wings from other services are authorized (optional). Dunno wtf is up with the restriction against other legitimately earned badges/tabs.

Finally, check this out. Fast fwd to 2:10 to see what I'm talking about. His discription is a little melodramatic and really dumbed down, but he gets cool points for rocking this tab on national TV:

(sorry for the poor quality...CNN's website doesn't provide URLs to link to specific videos, so I had to get a bootleg)
