  1. alot of folks feel the AMC heavy life is superior...Pay, lifestyle, hours, world travel, civilian opportunities down the road... it's all better if you fly heavies Goldfein just laid out the typical fighter tour at Shaw...ya right now heavy life is way way better than that...
  2. Yep this...why aren't people talking about this? It's summer now and I haven't heard anything but I hope this happens soon
  3. When this summer does the flight pay raise happen??
  4. Not really supporting a side. Just hate people who ignorantly claim you're turning down millions and millions of dollars by choosing to stay in. It's simply not true. That's all. You're turning money down but it's way closer than people realize.
  5. Dude get educated please http://aviationbull.com/2017/mar/28/what-will-year-cost-me
  6. I used that number to argue the guy above me that used that number. I know Capt's make upwards of 450 toward the end. So ya even still his "millions and millions" of dollars you'd be missing out on just isn't true. At most it's barely 2 million. Not even to mention the percentage that actually work till 65 is low. Don't have the number but I know it's below half.
  7. The numbers are close but heck no it's not worth it. Quality of life is worth a ton in my house haha
  8. Definitely not forgetting about an airline retirement. A dude who gets an AF retirement can still work for 30ish years for an airline. Easily enough time to get a full retirement for all majors...
  9. 160 with the bonus. No TDY dollars included. And your taxable income is down around 120 assuming you get no tax free months... O-4 over 12 with dependents makes around 130K not including the value of Tricare over 16 makes approx 135K without bonus After taxes it's nowhere near as far off as people think when compared to the airlines. People forget when you make 300 you're paying around 100 in taxes...
  10. Dude it is way way more involved than that...but I'll try to make it oversimplified. Ok, I'll give you a quarter mil for the airline Capts. Let compare years 13-20 in the AF with years 58-65 in the airlines (250K per year)... Year 13 in the Air Force as a C-17 pilot at Travis you're making roughly $160,000 not counting any TDY, and with the bonus. Tricare is worth another 15K so you're SAFELY making in the 175 range. And about a quarter of that isn't even taxable. That 160K only goes up as you get closer to 20. Compare that to your 250K, taxable and without medical... Its way way closer than you think. Sure the Airlines prob brings you out on top but "millions and millions" of dollars isn't true. Add in the 50K per year with full medical until you die and it gets even closer the longer you live... You can't put a price on quality of life and that's what is really driving people out.
  11. This is not really accurate at all. The money is was closer than you think if you get out at 20 rather than at 12...
  12. https://townhall.com/columnists/congressmanmikecoffman/2017/06/06/addressing-the-national-pilot-shortage-n2336892 I am floored this option is still being very heavily considered. And now by a congressman
  13. What is the over 6 years flight pay going to be raised to? Haven't been able to find any specifics.
  14. can somebody with some insight explain this and why they would do this?
  15. That number doesn't matter because it changes for everyone. You'll get the opportunity for 5 extra years at a major if they lower retirement age.
  16. Would give retired guys 25ish years at a major instead of 20. (Approx 1.5 million bucks more) Guys would stay in. Even knowing it might mean a deployment. Sure it would cost the AF money but do it for 10 years and then go back to the 20 year retirement when the problem is fixed. Its something the AF could do without touching any of the cultural issues (which IMO will take decades to fix) and still retain a shit ton of guys for 3 more years.
  17. Cross posted... I think they should get rid of the bonus at the end of UPT ADSC. Instead they should enact a rule that allows pilots to fully retire after 15 years (basically 3 years after UPT ADSC expires) I'd give 3 more years to get a full retirement. 8 no, but 3 would make people think. Puts a typical dude at age 38 when they get out with a full retirement. Bet the "take rate" doubles... It would at least buy them some time.

  19. UPT is toxic. It's full of guys who were "screwed over" in their previous community. Now they are mentoring all the young folks on why the Air Force sucks. Sounds like a great recipe.
  20. Might be a dumb question but to the GI BILL benefits go to your checking account first or straight to the school you're choosing to attend for the tuition portion?
  21. Lol an apology on a message board...that's rare
