  1. Ya you’re right, screw all the other factors that come into play when choosing an assignment, let’s just all go gunships and hate our lives just so we can get into the war as fast as humanly possible... is the kid that delays that for 3 years (and then does the exact same missions) less patriotic or something? Does his service mean less? I’m confused
  2. AF “needs” UPT instructors too. Pretty bad right now actually. If kids were smart, they would T-1 FAIP. It’s not really close either. Opens so many doors no matter what your goals in life are. FAIPs are leaving their first assignment with 1200+ Multi engine instructor hours and SOS, Flight command, and Exec all checked off as a young second year captain. They get to their AMC units, upgrade in half the time as their peers and are off to the races... Name another MWS where that all happens. And like Duck says...AMC sucks (hence the huge pilot shortage) so again...what’s the rush?
  3. Ya it can go both ways for sure but I’d rather get 1200 instructor hours and lots of airmanship before heading off into the real Air Force. Especially when they cut the syllabus in half. You’ll get more than your fill of the operational world. They got you for 10 long years...What’s the rush?
  4. Not sure why faiping is so frowned upon. There is no assignment better for a future airline career than T-1 FAIP 1200 multi engine instructor hours in 3 years to start your career is gold
  5. It’s cool being chosen to Faip by your peers and then getting to work with them, you know everyone before you even start, you’re comfortable with the local flying already, not moving means you can hit the ground running...just a couple reasons I wouldve been pissed to leave for another base.
  6. Talking about the majors. Nobody cares about the regionals
  7. Calling it production immediately takes the responsibility off of the commanders. Calling it production also means commanders don’t have to try and fix retention anymore. They don’t even have to talk about it inside their squadrons. Whereas before, they did...
  8. The next recession won’t hit the airlines hear as hard. They are smarter now and more prepared
  9. Again, I will say that we are overmanned only on paper
  10. Mobility guys are leaving in droves. That positive delta can’t be correct. Look at the steady decline in the take rates. It will be mid 30s in FY18
  11. So we will overpay for contractors to teach upt, overpay for a new trainer, and fly our current airplanes into the ground trying to fix this..........why can’t we just pay current pilots more. Would be exponentially cheaper. 1 million for 8 years, 500k up front....take rate goes from low 40s to high 80s overnight. This isn’t hard
  12. Other way around for the bonus: AF wanted more, congress authorized less. Flight pay: congress authorized more, AF gave less than authorized. Ya that’s right that’s right.
  13. Same with the BRS bonus. Congress authorized up to 13X base pay dependent on the needs of the AF......we got the bare minimum of 2.5....joke
  14. I’m pretty sure congress authorized 50 but the AF chose the lower amounts. Same as flight pay. The AF chose to give out less money than was authorized in both cases
  15. 1 million bucks for 8 years. 500k up front. They need to start there for a realistic bonus. Only offer it for the next 10 years until they get out of this mess
  16. Good revival. Interested too.
  17. Prob been asked before but can you get the bonus tax free somehow? Do the same combat zone rules apply?
  18. Each service was given the opportunity to set their own bonus. It could be handed out at the 8-12 year mark and the amount could be anywhere between 2.5-13X your base pay based upon the needs of the service. Accepting adds a 4 year ADSC... AF finally released their details. You get 2.5X base pay for an additional 4 years. It will be handed out at the 12 year mark for all those who opt into the BRS. For the officers its: 2.5 X $7230 (Major over 12) = 18,075 After taxes approx $13,556 $3,390 per year LOL
  19. Saw this on Facebook just thought I'd share here Some interesting numbers for y'all. I'm looking at the "over 6 years" number because that's the age group the Air Force should be laser focused on...Over 6 flight pay has changed 4 times since inception. In 1981 it was raised 24.9% from 245 to 306. THE VERY NEXT year it was raised another 30.1% up to 400. In 1990 the 650 amount went into effect after a HUGE 62.5% raise.......27 years later, in the middle of the biggest pilot shortage in the history of the military they raised it 7.7%......In 1990 the flight pay was worth 22.3% of your base pay. To me that means the Air Force valued flyers 22.3% higher than "regular" officers. That number after this raise is down to 10.2%The AF so far is doing a terrible job of showing pilots they are valued. Period. The numbers don't lie
  20. Ya I'm dying to hear what that kid did
  21. FAIP drop today. CBM fighters: 1 F-35 1 F-22 5 F-16 2 F-15E 1 A-10 2 B-2 no buffs or bones
  22. They are clueless I'll give you that. Haha
