    Tacrep JB?

We're gone a lot.  Between disaster you name it, channel/contingency missions to Afghanistan/Iraq/Turkey/Kuwait/Jordan, Presidential golf weekends and trips to wherever, locals to make up for the one that got cancelled three weeks ago because the president wanted to go golfing, during the hurricane. Turn around to finish up your deployment checklist so you can hang out at the Deid for 3 months.  Return home and hit up SOS after you get recurrent in airdrop.  Get back from SOS to find out that congratulations you will be going to AC school in two months then PCSing to Del Rio in 6 and Randolph will be an out and back TDY to save money...

...Still the best deal in the Air Force.

    That's quite a work load!

Any comments on the reserve side from anyone?

Yeah, dude, they totally do. The ALO that was assigned to my BDE in the Army was an A10 guy who flew helos in the Army as a warrant. He wore both his Army and Air Force wings on his uniform. The Air Force wings were obviously on top, but he wore both of them.

Also, my buddy is close to finishing UPT now, and he’s an Army guy with Army wings on his flight suit, until he gets his Air Force wings, and then he’ll wear both. It’s like wearing Airborne wings underneath your pilot wings.

    That's awesome.

I look forward to sporting both wings once I get picked up by a unit.

I wasn't suggesting that the standard be lowered, just that if the course was properly designed and good candidates selected that there shouldn't be a high washout rate.  If that's truly the case, I believe that is a failure on part of the USAF.

From reading a few other posts it seems that although FWQ required fewer flight hours, that it didn't really save much money.  Not sure how that math works out, but I guess there's overhead and other costs involved with maintaining a FWQ course.

I joined the Army although I think life would be better in the circus...uh, I mean, USAF.

The explanation I was given (from a guy who went through the course and passed) was it was almost like what you and I would think of an AQC....they assume you already know everything about helicopters...you are just going to learn how to fly that specific airframe.  That was the biggest reason.  A lot of guys who flew rotary wing all their lives were being put through a course without any basic instruction on fixed wing.  It was a real baptism by fire, and some made it through just fine...but not enough for them to justify keeping the program alive.

Gun owners need to be ready to justify all the toys we have access to. At the moment I'm having a difficult time thinking of a justification for removable magazines.

I will respond with one reason to consider for removable magazines.

Consider the home invasion scenario where you have multiple homes invaders with the intent to harm you and yours.  The majority of malfunctions within a semi-automatic firearms tend to be the feeding device.  A removable magazine is essential to you remedial actions when dealing with a malfunction in a gun fight.  If Tap/Rack/Pull doesn't work, the next option is, drop the mag, clear the jam, insert new mag, go.

Again, this is one reason to consider.  I am sure there are many more reasons individuals can come up with.  For me in my home, I always have multiple magazines loaded and ready to go for every self-defense firearm in my home.

Same thing was happening in 2010.

Is this an active duty specific thing?  Do national guard get pushed through faster?

I ask because this was the case at Army IERW.  You would have guys waiting for months for their advanced course while the guard guys were turned around in a couple weeks.

  6. I am coming from another branch and am having trouble finding out what exactly a Form 8 is so I can provide the equivalent copies from the Army.

Can anyone give me a description of what this form is used for?

I've always thought drop night would be more fun if they just put the list of planes for that class up on a board and call the studs up in rank order.  #1 gets first pick, etc...  Yes, someone will be last and their plane will be the only one left, and that's OK.

This is how the Army does it.

We find out the list of airframes right before selection.  They bring each person up in OML order and sometimes even the very last guy wins too!  Sometimes everyone wants apaches and all the Army has to offer that day is blackhawks....other days...everyone wants Chinooks and all they have is apaches...

There are also two separate lists for selection.  One for Officers and one for Warrant Officers.

    Hey fellas,

Some great information in this thread. I am UH60M Pilot coming out of a company command and I am looking to try to transition to the air force ANG/Reserves as well.

two questions to ask with this process:

Finding a unit: should I just cold call them and reach out to their hiring board guys??

Age waiver:  Im 29 turning 30 this summer, can I get an age waiver to UPT??

    PM'ing you
