Vote buying math - A $330B college debt forgiveness bill at $10k per person equates to 33 million people who’ll benefit.  That is less than 10% of the US population. So, 90% of Americans will cover the cost for 10% including a crap ton of non-college graduates who make a hell of a lot less.  This is a giant FU from crazy Uncle Joe to everyone who did pay their student loans back.  The majority of college debt is held by graduate degree holders in non-marketable fields.

Cancelling student debt is lunacy, you are rewarding people who don't pay their bills by taxing those who do pay their bills.

I wonder where the blame will be deflected for the additional inflation this will cause.

The fact that you used the specific word malevolence is chilling. Firmly reinforces my already deep seated belief that I will not let an Air Force medical person do anything with regards to my wellbeing beyond what is minimally required, ie PHA and dental, and that only begrudgingly.

As a retiree, I have been shocked at the stark improvement in medical services, with the simple change of a PCM that has no connection to the military.

In other news, Biden embarrassed himself on the international stage, can’t decipher the difference between Switzerland and Sweden, and uses an international forum for defense to talk about his opinion on Roe v Wade, to an audience that generally has stricter abortion bans than America.

So, you’re saying it was Thursday.

FAIP plus get an 11B follow-on. Those dudes/dudettes have no incentive to crush themselves for 3 years by flying 3 times a day and volunteering for every stupid tasker that comes down from the boss. They don’t have to play the FAIP game at all, unless they’re trying to fly the B-21 I guess. It sucks but it might be better than 3 years of nut crushing only to lose out again.

False hope is literally the AF’s favorite management tool.  Without it, the Bobs might actually have to lead.

This has led to some of the funniest press briefings I've ever seen.

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings/2022/05/18/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-and-national-security-advisor-jake-sullivan-may-18-2022/

PETER DOOCY:   A follow-up to the disinformation board.  Last week, you guys said that you needed this Disinformation Governance Board at DHS to make sure that freedom of speech is protected across the country and that these platforms are not used for forms of disinformation.  So what changed?

MS. JEAN-PIERRE:  Look, the Department of — of Homeland Security, they began their statement report- — repeating that the board had been intentionally mischaracterized, which is a little bit of what you were asking me, and they were explicit about what it does and doesn’t — it does not do...

PETER DOOCY:    So if it’s pausing because you think the board was mischaracterized, then the disinformation board is being shut down because of disinformation?

Just in time for an election.

Timing is everything.  It needs to be in place far enough in advance of the election to be useful.  Elections, after all, are a stated primary target of this board.  This way, if both houses swing hard right, the administration will have a tool to undermine faith in the legitimacy of those newly elected senators and representatives.  Especially if they start treating the President with the same courtesy that was shown to the last one.

So what I'm looking for is A GS-13 (hopefully) job.  However I need to pay the bills and can't just leave AD and hope I get a job.  So I'd like to get a job then leave AD.  Is it possible to apply for a GS job.. get accepted.. and go on terminal?

To even be considered, you need to have an established date of separation, a statement of service letter from your commander (or equivalent on g series) with all the data listed above, and you need to be within 120 days of your date of separation.

If you meet those criteria and all other screening criteria, you’ll get considered for an interview.  If you get selected through the interview process, you’ll get a conditional offer.  Once you accept the conditional offer, the hiring authority drafts and processes a 180 day waiver.  If the waiver gets approved, you get a firm offer and set up your start date.

BL, you’re taking a leap of faith.  You shouldn’t think of GS employment as a safety net.  If GS is your primary COA, make sure you have 6-9 months of savings to cover a potential period of unemployment.

Anyone familiar with or been through the process of a 180-day waiver for going direct into GS employment after retirement?

I got offered a perfect post USAF gig pending approval of a 180-day waiver.  Just curious if the waiver is a pretty smooth process or if it’s anything I should be sweating.

Not putting all the eggs in that basket and still taking a couple other non-government industry interviews while I wait out the process, but really wanting the GS gig to work out.  It’s not as much money but it’s doing some cool stuff.

Appreciate any knowledge y’all might drop!

There is no process for the applicant.  If the hiring authority wants you, they have to complete the waiver as part of the hiring process.

I had some questions with regard to establishing a DOS that folks at my MPF couldn't really answer.  I have over 20 years and an ADSC for a bonus until this August.  I would be hot for orders (Cannon) which means I would have to 7 day opt IOT stay at my current location.  I'm in the process of finding a job.. getting certifications, education .. all that.  My concern is that I get orders, have to 7 day opt with no job on the outside.  If I got orders, would I be able to request a DOS at that time?  Or has that ship sailed at that point?  Is it a safer bet to establish a DOS for a year from now and move it as required based on finding a job and when I'm ready to get out?

Officer or enlisted?   If you’re an officer over 20, you’re not setting a DOS.  You’re applying to retire.   Once you have an approved application to retire, you have to apply to change the date, and you have to have a compelling reason to do so.

Wll, that's convenient since this Administration has admitted it can't "stop the virus."  Just stop reporting on it.  Sure is nice to have allies...

    https://apnews.com/article/omicron-changing-news-outlets-covid-data-da9272f7c4c8a109c3bfb56bed9e9c76

NEW YORK (AP) — For two years, coronavirus case counts and hospitalizations have been widely used barometers of the pandemic’s march across the world.

But the omicron wave is making a mess of the usual statistics, forcing news organizations to rethink the way they report such figures.

For that reason, The Associated Press has recently told its editors and reporters to avoid emphasizing case counts in stories about the disease. That means, for example, no more stories focused solely on a particular country or state setting a one-day record for number of cases, because that claim has become unreliable.

That reason…and, it’s an election year.  If the Democrats lose both house and senate, I expect this administration will be treated with the same courtesy as the last one.

The AP will do everything necessary to avoid that outcome.

Shouldn't take any time at all. None of the data is classified and there is a significant public interest in it.

Their argument doesn't make sense because they are basically saying they need 55 years to review the data to be released but supposedly this data was all reviewed in a year to approve the vaccines.

It makes perfect sense.  The data might show that someone important lied to gain power or profit.  In 55 years, all of the beneficiaries who could be held accountable for data inconsistencies will be dead.

The stirrer tends to create two big heaps of jalapeños at the ends, so best to leave it off. However, in most machines there's a slight tilt in the cooker so there's more oil on the one side. Pro tip to run the stirrer for 180º rotation every 69 seconds to swap the uphill and downhill peños, and then spread evenly to break the mounds.

This.  Occasional spins of the stirrer and break the mounds with a fork.

Do we think they care and what gains are we going to attack...the third compound from the north T intersection?  There is no infrastructure to attack.  We can keep manhunting but we have been doing that for 20 years.

Seriously...they have shown and unbelievable ability to absorb casualties and play the long game...they waited 20 years for this moment and they will make the most of it.  I would look to their motivation, what is in their best interest?  Is it better for them to let us leave peacully, avoid a few casualties on their side and own Afghanistan without much of a fight?  Or, would it be better to wait until we are almost gone and grab a bunch  hostages to make the point that they run Barter Town.  Think about their PR machine (far better than ours) and what kind of play they could get out of defeating the Americans AND parading around a bunch of American hostages...that video alone would recruit extremists into their ranks for a generation.

I am shocked they haven't rolled any Americans up yet and I hope I am wrong.

Their motivation appears to be expel, embarrass, and control.  Our motivation seems to be providing money to military contractors, advancing a narrative, and minimizing political embarrassment.  Sadly, this nexus of priorities doesn’t lend itself a short or conclusive end.
