And damn they tax that shit at a high rate. ~20% if my calculations are correct.
No, they *withhold* that shit at a high rate--probably 28%, not 20%. The actual taxes you end up paying on it will depend on your overall tax situation at year's end. In other words, unless you need the money "right now," there's no sense in worrying about it--it will come out in the wash when you file, and the excess withheld will reduce your taxes owed/increase your refund, as applicable....

Jesus, can't a guy enjoy Oshkosh w/o a bunch of internet frat boys hounding him over a chick???
Whatever. You opened the door. Wide open, actually.
Really? Disclosing a personal relationship in connection with a business recommendation is inviting cyber-stalking...? I stand by my initial response: you have way too much time on your hands.
Anyone else want to know the answer?
Answer the fucking question.
Hypocrisy much? Aren't you the guy who deleted his post of the Air Force Times cover w/ your mug & name included, saying something at the time to the effect of "inappropriate to provide PID on this forum"?
C'mon now, you gotta admit that Rain's post is damn funny!
Yeah, I s'pose.... Fortunately (for me!), the g/f thinks so, too....
As for which ones I'd date, I guess I'm getting less picky in my age but there are a few on there I'd consider if I were in the market...starting with #3.
And... we have a winner!

went with the National Bank of Kansas City. Little no-name bank, but they actually wanted my business, process was very smooth and the processor was professional and easy to get a hold of. Plus the rate was much better than what USAA was offering.
Big "2" on NBoKC. I was referred to my loan officer two houses & two re-fis ago, and I haven't looked back--I barely even shop around any more, her rates are *always* better than I see anywhere else, there's a flat-fee application (that goes toward the loan at closing), the rates they quote are no-points (points available if you want to buy down, of course) and *no origination* fee. Best of all, several of the loan officers (including mine) actively seek out the "niche" market of military borrowers--and, as a fringe benefit, they "speak military," understand LES's, why your taxable income and actual income may have nothing in common, etc.
If anyone wants a direct referral, PM me.
[in the interest of full disclosure, in addition to the best mortage deal, after my latest loan closed I started dating my loan officer. That said, I'd referred her to multiple people long before we met in person, and I stand by my purely-business opinions above. However, I can't wait to see how I do on my *next* loan....

Just curious, whats the quickest anyone has finished correspondence?
Two guys on my crew at the 'Deid this Spring knocked it out in ~3 weeks. The longest time was the wait to sign up for the next test (48 hours?), and then finding "off" time to do it.
A guy on a different crew knocked it out in just over a week--went in and passed two of the tests cold. Failed one, spent 30 minutes studying, passed on the second try.
I was so proud....

Oh, ok...are we talking about using them as light attack jets now?
YEaaaahhh!! Man, I can't wait until that syllabus gets approved, I'm gonna love flying the RJ down low & raining hate on the--
um, what? sarcasm? you sure...? Damn....

Oshkosh 2011 Bump. Anyone else going? This will be my first time there and I'm looking forward to it!
I'm going--it'll be my second trip, I went two years ago. Socata's 100th Anniversary (I have a TB-20), first time any aircraft manufacturer has made that mark in continuous production, so there are supposed to be some good demos, passes to VIP areas (read: free food/booze), and a good showing of folks I know from the user group.
I'm flying up Tue, staying through Sun. I may make a day-trip on Mon (I'll be in Chicago this w/e) if the friends I'm visiting are interested.
Are you flying in?

I'm thinking a 8x16 enclosed dual axle trailer I just bought for a sport quad and to PCS w/ wouldn't cut the mustard as purpose built... Oh well
I'm not familiar w/ rules re quads--can they be included in HHG weight? (I'd guess they're treated like motorcycles?)
If so: did you modify the trailer to make it a specific quad-hauler? My trailer looks like any other cargo trailer from the outside (and is roughly the size you describe), but I modified it (wheel tracks & tie-down points) to haul the bikes. That makes it a "motorcycle trailer," and as such I can claim the weight.
FYI, I went through an, ahem, education process w/ the gal at TMO when I was setting up my last DITY. She finally saw it my way (once I produced the actual JFTR verbiage), but stated that those rules are expected to further change and exclude *all* trailers. We'll see....
EDIT: clarity
-
Also the reg changed a few years back on trailers you own. Only small single axle trailers can be considered in your weight, multi axle car/bike trailers you don't get weight credit for
Not quite--"purpose built" trailers (boat trailers, motorcycle trailers, snowmobile, etc.) to haul things that are themselves allowed to be included in HHG weight are exempt from the single-sxle requirement.

I felt a thread all about beer would compliment the gun thread.
IBTL IBTM (merge)?

Putting together my "wish list" for various forums, demos, events, etc. for OSH.
A couple of U-2 items caught my eye; this guy sounds like he's really BTDT.... Any of our resident U-2 guys know him? (I understand he fondly refers to Huggy as "Pops"....
)
Major General (Ret) Patrick J. Halloran
Anyone know if a Deuce will be at OSH this year?
EDIT: fix link

I went to the wrong school.
I went to the wrong school, too.
I suggest combining this thread w/ the USAFA powered flight thread--this would inarguably be a more pertinent life-skill for your average Zoomie....

Recently upgraded to IE9. One behavior this site has that I have not seen on other sites: when I click on an external link, I get the new tab w/ the linked page--but I also get the current (baseops) page switching over to the new link (i.e., I end up with *two* of the link I just clicked on as well as being inadvertently navigated away from baseops).
It's in the "minor annoyance" category, since a simple work-around is to hold down the CTRL key when clicking (gets you the link on a new page w/o advancing the current one--i.e., the desired behavior), and using the back-arrow for when I forget to do that.
Cheers!

I would call it a Cultural Support Program
Ah, yes, the CuSP.
Of course, Cultural Nation-building Team would make for a better acronym....
-
Apparently it's a "force protection" issue...although I've never seen one contractor stopped and questioned.
I'm afraid your information is dated. In the latest Newspeak, the (former, as of last week) Wing/CC at the 'Deid was fond of stating (repeatedly, at all of his Right Starts and CC Calls) that the reason for wearing PT gear was so he could identify his combatants at all times....

advice for a flyer trying to get into the medical field?
Are you a pilot? There's still the "pilot-physician" exception to the Line of the Air Force requirements. I haven't seen one in several years, but back in the day, we had a flight doc who flew in the seat as a pilot with us....

Damn! I thought this was just a "close call" type scrape. Nope...they pretty much ran into the building.
At any point during the incident did the French waive a white flag toward the building or try to surrender to it?
My question: at any point *prior* to the incident, did the French measure the distance from centerline to the building...? Then, say, I don't know, something about, "Gee, that number seems smaller than my wingtip clearance requirements"...?
-
FSUBadger already answered the question you asked the same way I would have. Additionally:
I'm currently TDY at Altus and my car just got totaled by the recent hail storm that just rolled through here.
I'm sure this varies from commander to commander, budget to budget, etc.--but be sure to look into getting your deductible reimbursed via the JAG office. Similar thing happened when I was at Altus (I happened to be out of town for the weekend, so I wasn't directly affected), the JAG paid everyone's deductible from a "public relations" fund that, evidently, wings have available to help avoid negative perceptions for small claims-type issues. YMMV. OK, perceptions of Altus won't likely change, but you may not be out the money you thought you were....

Don't aircrew get in the new Dorms at the 'Deid?
Only for >179 deployments, unfortunately.
What really burns me is that they have plenty of open rooms on the Better People's Complex side, which would have completely avoided this issue, but we're not "eligible"....
-
Jughead, not sure if this will help or not, but here is an excerpt from AFI 34-246 (Air Force Lodging Program) -
1.13.4. The installation commander or the aircraft commander may waive aircrew lodging requirements on a temporary basis for reasons of military necessity.
Yep, already had that, thanks. Our situation boils down to 1.13.4, since we're deployed. I was looking for a definition that gave min standards in order to meet the 11-202 requirements.
Jug: Make sure that it's not just you--the entire crew needs to say that the facilities were inadequate. If four out of five crew members say they are good to fly, and you're the only one, you'll rapidly end up being 'that guy'.
Good point--but, six out of six ACs were saying it, loudly, and I don't know of any of the individual crewdogs (roughly 120 people all told -- I'm an RJ guy) who disagreed the proposed lodging was a train wreck in progress.
I say "was," because we said it loudly enough. Funny how lodging had "no rooms available, period," but when our CC talks to them and says his next phone call is to the (Non-)Services CC, suddenly they have rooms....
The 'Deid is such a shit show, thank god I'm almost home....
Thanks for the help. I'd still love to find that definition, if it's out there, for future reference.... Anyone?
-
Is it even legal? Can an individual waive rights that a law specifically gives him? Either way, the storage folks are douches....
Unfortunately, the Lt didn't make himself sound too bright, either:
"It's hard to explain knowing that this is the country I fight for so that they can have the freedom to even have these businesses,” he said. “It's just behooves me why people would do such a thing."
Hasn't Rainman opined on talking to the press...?
-
That's an individual's call saying that their crew rest couldn't happen due to the fact there were environmental elements affecting their crew rest. Then you ORM yourself off the flight. Leadership will quickly change their mentality when their aircrews are calling crew rest and cancelling sorties due to the same issue.
Agreed on that process. We're trying to be proactive, though, and avoid it altogether. I'm hoping to find something (which may not exist) that defines it--I can point to 11-202 all day, but if the attitude is "you should have had the opportunity to sleep there for 8 hours," then the back-and-forth starts....
our 2-mws- vol 3 actually outlined that crew rest facilities needed to provide quiet, dark, cooled facilities for rest.
I wish....

THREAD REVIVAL
Anyone got a good reference to what defines "adequate crew rest facilities"?
Closest I've come is AFI 34-246, para 1.13 (cited on p. 1 or 2 of this thread), which boils down to the final caveat, para 1.13.4, "The installation commander or the aircraft commander may waive aircrew lodging requirements on a temporary basis for reasons of military necessity."
That reg mostly addresses normal billeting on normal bases. What about a deployed location? 11-202V3 is pretty specific on the time factors of proper crew rest--but is there a definition somewhere of minimum standards for quarters that are deemed to permit aircrew "an opportunity for at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep" (para 9.8), or the "Rest is defined as a condition that allows an individual the opportunity to sleep" (para 9.4.5)?
If aircrew get forced into clearly inadequate ("clearly" to anyone who chooses to exercise common sense) quarters to the point that crew rest simply cannot happen, what can they point to if it's the *rest* that didn't (couldn't) happen, despite the appropriate number of hours elapsing?

I have a feeling that the one called Spoo has extra-terrestrial midget child amputee porn and the has buried the aliens with big foot, Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa underneath Area 51's class six.
Don't be ridiculous. There's no Class Six at Area 51....
BX renovations.....a waste or worth it
