RPA Crossflow Results
Since "grassroots" doesn't really work in a military structure, this sort of back-channel discussion is the only way I think any pressure will be brought to bear (if ever); good on you guys for that. Curious: what sorts of replies do you guys get from the O-6 to O-9 types to that question...? I assume anyone with whom you correspond on a "WTFO" basis is someone you would not classify as a Kool-Aid drinker; so who are the Kool-Aid drinkers, and how have we gotten here? Any positive outlooks in those conversations...?

RPA Crossflow Results
The option (the "opt" in "7-day opt") refers to your option to accept or decline any additional ADSC associated with a RIP. If you do nothing, you are deemed to have accepted it. If you exercise your option to decline, any existing ADSC(s) is/are unaffected. Where you finish up that/those ADSC(s) is up to Big Blue.

If you want to double-down on that sentiment, consider that, at least in my corner of the AF, that ppt was sent out through official email with a clear directive to "read & heed"....

Post Deployment Leave (TDY)?
Whenever I've done POV travel (eg, ~4 mo TDY to an FTU), there was some formula used for number of days TDY vs travel time. If the standard was met (gone for X days, therefore travel time of up to Y days authorized), then total travel time up the normal number of days for driving (350 mi / day?) was authorized, with one day being travel (funded) and the others being PTDY (no per diem, but no leave charged either). Have the rules changed, or were the rules being side-stepped when I did it? Caveats, it's been a while & I have not done this ICW a deployment. EDIT: i kant spel

Tax Free Questions
OK, good data point, thanks. Now I need to verify if the officer limit applies. Except for tax exempt leave--that's always used first.

Tax Free Questions
THREAD REVIVAL (closest post I could find to my question) So, tax exempt leave. Didn't see the answer in 65-116 referenced above. I do see in DoD 7000.14-R, VOLUME 7A, CHAPTER 35 the details about selling leave back, but not using it as part of ordinary leave. Q) Does the officer limitation to tax-exempt pay render tax exempt leave meaningless to anyone over the limit? Say you earn 5 days of leave deployed in Jan & Feb to a CZTE area; those 5 days show up as "tax exempt leave." Now you take 5 days of leave in (say) July, and you don't otherwise have any CZTE that month. I gather from reading here & elsewhere that you would expect to have 5/30ths of your taxable pay be tax-free for that month (or perhaps it's 5/365ths of your annual pay?). Yes/no? In my situation (exceed the officer limit), that doesn't seem to be happening, which makes me speculate.... In other words, if you exceed the limit in January & February (when the leave was earned), has it already "used up" its tax free value when you take it, even in July (when the 5/30ths deduction would not exceed the limit)?

Hornet Crash @ Virginia Beach - Populated Area
I'm guesssing you've never flown TF-33-equipped -135s before; I trust the -1 is a good enough reference...? I grabbed the the text from the WC-135 -1 since that was the first small-motor -135 book I could put my hands on--the same (or similar) wording is in every small-motor -135 I've ever flown (and, more to the point, compressor stalls at the start of a high-power takeoff in crosswind conditions is a very real condition). No idea if this applies or not to the Hornet in question.... EDIT: Format

Gun Talk
So, I'm not really a "gun guy" (most of my shooting has been recurring M-9 qual, and I only have one handgun in the house)--but, this may make me reconsider that stance:
