  1. That's so depressing... I was really hoping to be out of here in 4 months...

Not necessarily true. I just retired from the 714th, and am going back to work there in April as a GS. Before I left (2 weeks ago), students with follow-ons to Kirtland/Cannon/Hurlburt were the priority. AFSOC's tired of the BS, and called AETC's bluff on slick students being the priority. Last I heard, AFSOC folks would be graduating on time/early...

    FWIW

  2. Each MWS sets its own minimum requirements (age/rank, hours, etc) which are spelled out in the initial board message. As ClearedHot said--they all accept waivers, but whether you get one is again dependent upon MWS and number of others applying to the school. PM if you want more info...

  3. The long and short of it is that you’re letting a bunch of people who either don’t truly know about this subject, or feel the need to speak negatively of it, get you down. The job is what you make of it and I can tell you that if you come to the Strike Eagle you most certainly will not be a second class citizen.

Unless you show up with this whiny bitch attitude... :bash:

  4. Dated, but one of the best descriptions I've ever heard in busting on WIC (FWIC back in the day):

    "Patch Davidians."

    Any others?*

Meant as banter. I wasn't a patch wearer, have no problem with patch wearers (except a couple of tools who would be tools with or without the patch), and fully support the concept and need for the school.

    Back-pedal...back-pedal...back-pedal (nice disclaimer)

Seriously though, I'm 100% in agreement--it depends on the patch. Some divisions definitely have more tools than others, though...

  5. Amen, my brother...preach on! On that note, I just dropped my resignation package for the ANG in order to transfer to the AFRC. Pending any hiccups, the next RQWC class at Rucker is apparently in June/July timeframe. Be nice to get going on this. To tag onto what you were saying, in addition to me, there were (IIRC) 4 other guys hired; one an Army CW-2/UH-60 guy, and the other 3 Army O-2/O-3 UH-60 or OH-58 guys. So pretty lucky with my lack of applicable background to have been accepted (helo time that is....have a background in CSAR from the Hog). I suppose it did help to have some fellow Customs pilots from my air branch flying with the unit also.

On the CG C-130 thing...interesting thing: when we need airlift for outsize items at CBP, the CG C-130s usually do it, since they're part of DHS just as we are. Oddly, the CG usually sends a J-model, since apparently the J's are used for airlift but not just yet for patrol as the H models are. This info is about a year old, so it may have changed.

On the CG H-models, do the pilots train at Little Rock? And do thy carry Nav's? If so, are the Nav's Naval Flight Officer's (or CG equivilent), or are they enlisted types in the same way the Marine Air Navigators are on USMC C-130s?

Not sure about the nav piece, but CG pilots do train at Little Rock (at least for initial qual). We generally have a couple Coasties in training at any one time, and just got an exchange IP from the CG to teach at the FTU.

  6. ender,

Where are you located? I can't answer any of your questions about boom training but will offer up a suggestion. If you really want to get in the air, and don't want to wait forever for someone to die off, you may want to consider the Herk. We recently picked up a 135 crew chief to be a load. He got tired of waiting around as well and says he never looks back on his decision. I, of course, am partial to the front end of the airplane and since you have a crew chief AFSC you would qualify to go the FE route as well.

Crew chief AFSC no longer required to be an FE. We're currently training former TRANS and Finance guys to be FEs at the FTU. Not providing an opinion, just stating facts...

  7. It's the early 90's, and I'm a brand new Tweet FAIP fresh out of PIT on my first T3 cross country with another IP. We're on our second leg from Amarillo to Colorado Springs, it's about 10pm and Denver Center's frequency is dead quiet for almost 10 minutes. Then...

(Female Voice): "United 69 checking in level at 350"

(Denver Center): "United 69, Denver Center, Roger. Say, are you flying one of those new 777s?"

(Female Voice, obviously proud): "Why yes, I am, and I must tell you it's a most wonderful ride..." and then she proceeds to go on for a minute or two about how great daddy's new cadillac is...

(Unknown): "Dammit...a brand new aircraft and it already has a crack in the seat!"

Followed by another 10 minutes of silence...

  8. No military in my immediate family until me. I grew up on a cattle ranch about 10 miles north of the AF Academy. With all of the flybys (along with the Colo ANG out of Buckley flying A-7s and the Pete Field Reserve flying Herks) over our place all the time, it was easy to dream about flying while I was cleaning stalls or bucking hay bales.
