  1. Baseops'ers. The new www.baseops.net will be unveiled soon. Along with the design, I'd like to update a lot of content. If you or somebody you know would like to make a little side money, I need writers to give me updated data on:

http://www.baseops.net/militarypilot/ -- and basically every page that this page links to

    http://www.baseops.net/militarypilot/usaf_ift.html

    http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/army.html

    http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/pushups.html

    http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/airforce.html

    http://www.baseops.net/basictraining/usmc.html

and basically any page that you find that is out of date.... I will be looking for content writers as soon as the new site design is finished (should be within 2 weeks). As you can see from the subject matters, I'm looking for more than one writer, preferably somebody with very recent experience in each section. Please PM me for details. Thanks!

  2. I think it's good, and is a far cry from its humble beginnings. The "more" button at the bottom of the listings is a little tricky, since clicking more doesn't actually display more results, but rather gives you the page links for more results.

It would also be nice if more units would turn to it to post their openings. For example, there are 4-5 fighter units currently hiring, and none of them are listed on there. Is there any particular reason they don't want to use this as a tool for exposure, or are they just not aware that it exists?

Thanks for the input. I'll look into the more button, that is annoying. I'm not sure if the fighter units just don't know of the site, or if they're trying to stick to the bro network.

  3. I have encouraged my students to evaluate what they are getting at assignment night. If they are happy with the big possibility that they may never fly a manned AC outside of ENJJPT, then I tell them go for it. I tell them to talk to the many dudes we have in the reserves who got non-vol'd into RPA service and see if that is a life they are satisfied with. If not, assignment night comes before graduation for a reason, and I tell them to faithfully serve the ADSC they got from ROTC/USAFA and part ways with the AF.

Are you suggesting that your studs walk prior to getting wings if they get handed an RPA at drop night? Just curious, no spears to throw.

  4. Baseops'ers. I've been told about a few Sim IP openings for qualified eagle/viper/raptor drivers at Hickam and the Kun. Either place can be 3-6 rotations/"TDYs" if you'd rather not move. Perks include:

    Senior Level compensation

    Relocation assistance

    Housing allowance

    Sign-on bonus (potentially)

PM me with questions or if you're interested.

  5. Thank you! I definitely need some more feedback of links that do/don't work and what people do/don't like on baseops.net

  6. Folks,

I'm in the process of cleaning up www.baseops.net. I need your help to add some nice aviation pics. I have plenty of the viper, but not a whole lot of other airframes. If you have some cool pics, PM me or link them in this forum and I'll try to include them in some way on the redesign. Thanks!

  7. LLC is the most common entity for small businesses. Wouldn't recommend doing anything as a sole proprietor.

1.) Probably $500 - 1000 for a professional (attorney or CPA) to set it up. This should give you the articles of incorporation and an operating agreement which defines how the company will be run.

2.) You could set up as a Delaware or Nevada LLC (business friendly states) and then file as a foreign LLC in the state in which you are actually doing business. When you move, simply file as a foreign LLC in the new state.

Income from an LLC will flow through to your personal 1040, schedule C. You will pay state taxes to the state in which the business is conducted.

3.) Probably an LLC for most businesses. If you start to earn more than $25,000 / year, you will want to look into being electing to be taxed as an S-corp to avoid self-emploment taxes.

#3 is a very important one. As far as the IRS was concerned, I made no money from Uncle Sam this year (all tax free earnings). However, my small business made over 25K and therefore I owed "self-employment" tax.

  8. Don't assume anything. Since no one has officially complained (other than 17D_guy's comment in this thread), we mods/admins aren't going to do anything unless we see it becoming a problem.

But in all fairness, I hope we don't see a new thread every time JQP posts another article. If that becomes the case, then maybe we'll see about setting up a sub-forum to discuss his observations.

In the meantime, as it hasn't hit the threshold, no harm no foul...

I've started a conversation with BMAQ (owners of JQP blog), in hopes of leading to flyingsquadron.com having a sub-forum that auto builds a thread with each pre-existing and new JQP blog. This would be a great way for each post to have it's own discussions within BO.net. I literally just submitted an RFI today, so who knows what the lead turn will be.

  9. App may be malfunctioning for some users. I don't need any metrics or data from users right now about who is/is not effected. Just know it might not be working right meow.

  10. Folks... Looking to do a "major upgrade" again. Last time wasn't even noticeable. This time, however, it includes moving servers! So, there may be some wonky shit happening over the next 48 hours as I transition to another server. There may be a period of time where posts show up right after you post them, and then disappear within an hour or so. You may also get an error saying the site does not exist. Don't put on your tin foil hats, it'll be back!
