1. I'm wondering how long until OPR's will also have a static closeout date...And here I thought my #1 SNACKO strat was strong

I hope that they do implement SCODs for officers.

I think it would cut down on the quarterly/semi annual rack and stacks that consume a lot of time and condense them down. But then again what do I know.

2. Does anyone have any experience getting a CONUS-based ALTREV coordinated? I’m trying to figure out how to set up AAR off track and the local knowledge how to do that has departed the fix.

I have experience but it was a long time ago.

Is your ALTRV going to be in one area? If so you can do a Stationary ALTRV. Just a rectangle.

If not you are going to need a moving ALTRV which is written in a specific format.

If you are in a non radar environment you are going to need two ALTRVs one for yourself as the receiver and a support ALTRV for the tanker.

I second the recommendation to get in touch with the CARF and if you have a hookup at TACC XOOX short notice branch they have a lot of knowledge.

Don’t call anyone though until you have a winded CFPS flight plan with times listed as running Zulu (I believe)

3. Yep, and the dude they're putting up as the poster child deployed maybe twice before going the leadership route.
I really dislike hearing people talk about that cube and hearing other people pretending that the cube is the smartest thing ever. It is all so fake.

No reason to drag Myron thru the mud. He’s deployed way more than twice.

Do you have a better example to illustrate the problem than the cube? I think it’s pretty ballsy of a General to get in front of the world and put himself out there. Esp the story about the shaving waiver.

4. I feel like my beef is more in his lack of initiative to take any responsibility for the situation. I haven't read the SIB yet however I think blaming a squadron commander for prioritizing operations is a bit short winded. Unless the Sq/CC was delibertly cooking the books on his training I fail to see how a community that prides it's culture in doing whatever it takes to get the mission done is solely responsible for this tragedy.

Shortly after the “stand down,” Gen Cartier the A3 was reassigned to 19AF/CV, normally an O6. Gen Martin was announced as the new A3 as soon as he could be back from Afg. Gen Martin is Special Warfare by trade.

This didn’t happen until May but it was the immediate response.

"In addition to improper parachute assembly, the head of Air Force Special Operations Command said deficiencies and lapses in judgment across the community contributed to the accident.
The command "prioritized operations over in-garrison training and predictable deployment scheduling, resulting in stressed units across the command and leaders accepting unnecessary risk for the sake of mission completion," according to a news release accompanying the report."

W--T--F--???
I feel like that is a cop out by Slife. Was he really going to promote the next squadron commander who said he had no troops to deploy to a billet because they were tired and didn't have predictable schedules? Yeah ok mate ...

Slife hit the nail on the head. I was part of the team doing the audit on STS training and evals. The lack of standardization was gross.

6. I’m very naive when it comes to big picture stuff. But if everything is still working in the AF without pilots filling staff jobs, does the AF really need pilots to fill staff slots? I understand people (pilots for example) don’t like leaders without flying experience/job knowledge making the big decisions. But it seems to me there might be some correlation between staff jobs being gutted, and FGOs staying in? Again, just picking that up from the article. I could be way off. I was prior-E and in college now so I have zero knowledge on this level of thinking. Just trying to gain a better understanding. Thanks for the reply.

Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

The problem with not having pilots on staff is that the positions either go unfilled and the staff makes bad decisions because lack of perspective or they are filled with GS civilians that turn into folks more interested in maintaining the status quo than fixing problems of the units. Worse yet they play good idea fairy on how to solve problems that aren’t problems.

I was in Stan/Eval at HQ AFSOC.

7. Short answer - yes, ground forces care.

I’d like to think it is because we can monitor more than two radios and don’t require mirc although sometimes it helps

Also we are “there” in the same way the ground forces are “there”.

Can’t describe it but there is a man in the fight attitude that comes with manned ISR.

There is a certain tenacity that says “ the C2 element we are staying here for a couple minutes longer this doesn’t feel right..”

Sometimes it’s nothing sometimes it’s a GD hornets nest.

But to the guy on the ground in either case it’s the gut feeling and connection of the man overhead.

Quantify that and you have your answer.

Intangible.
8. I’m set to depart on a 365 command tour. I wish some clear guidance is issued soon regarding deployments.

On a side note this pandemic has created great efficiencies in training. I was thrilled that we practiced and qualified on the M4 at the same time and thus were in and out in record time and saved a shit ton of ammo in the process.

Also I feel like family sep allowance should be upgraded 250 a month is fine when we aren’t dealing with a pandemic.

9. So April 30 is the new date.. I feel like we are setting ourselves up for failure and/or disappointment.
I learned once upon a time that event/phased based operations are more effective than time based operations.. I’m relatively certain there are more than a few DLOs to that effect..
so.. What is the event based trigger (expected to occur on April 30th) Trump/Fauci/whoever is looking for so we can ease restrictions?
And.. what do those eased restrictions/guidelines look like? I assume they have a plan, right?

This is just a rolling ETIC anyway you slice it.

10. I can confirm this, I refinanced with Jon - Trident Home Loans back in November, he beat every other bank and had lower closing costs.
As for USAA check to make sure that there aren't points included, that's been my experience the last two times I inquired with them, great rates to get you in the door until you see the fine print points.

Huge shoutout to Jon. Amid the Coronavirus outbreak he was able to lock me in at 2.75 for an initial purchase.

Also he advised me extensively for free while he was working along side of me at HQ.

I’m sure that the rates will be all over the place in the near future but I am joining the long list of folks who can’t help but recc Jon and Trident higher than any other company we have ever dealt with.

Went above and beyond.
11. They scrapped BPZ this board, but they haven't officially implemented the five-year zone yet.
Who knows, maybe the categories will help.  I've heard rumors that the rated/spec ops category will have a selection rate of 95%.  Seems like that would fit with a rated manning crisis, but when has the Air Force ever made common sense decisions?

I saw 90% on the slides from A1.
12. The U-28 has a little more life in it than the statement portends but it is something that should we discuss recap now would be a smart idea. I for one, hope we don’t go with Johns Hopkins to study this again.

The platform will have to be very carefully determined because we can’t just generate A-29 or AT-6 pilots at a 1:1 replacement.

5 years is 1 year after I retire. I cannot believe I am that old.

13. Had a similar situation when I was a commander in Maintenance. Troop had a batshit crazy wife. Went off of her meds. Possessed marijuana in base housing and smoked it to deal with her anxiety to include around some children.

We did have to take action on it but neither me, nor the first sergeant or anyone else at the time were about to prefer charges that the drugs were his.

Nevertheless I supported NJP and took a stripe for allowing the situation to continue.

I would like to think that was the proper course of action. But y’all can judge me accordingly.

Hard to judge the situation mentioned without all of the facts but I would like to think that there would have been something to prove that the drugs were his.

Say what you want to say but OSI cannot force a commander to prefer charges.
