  1. From the video, it sounds like the engine remained at landing power setting for the touchdown, maybe even increasing some when the front fan failed.  Maybe the pilot may have been trying to throttle off the power, hence remaining in the jet, but when nothing worked, he punched.  Or it took him that long to go through the boldface 😆.  Then at ejection the engine then powered down.  I'm no F35 person, but maybe some sort of engine cutoff if ejection occurs?  If so, ejection kinda saved them both.

Now back to your regular daily air strategy debate.

Engines are fixed on the -280, one of my Osprey buddies told me that alone would help to alleviate some the MX shenanigans the -22 experiences.  Also, it being a second-generation tilt rotor, you'd hope they'd incorporate some lessons learned into it.

Like maybe steer clear of composite airframes?  I hear they don't handle bullets very well.  Just ask Rooster 73, 74, and 75.

  4. I'd offer that the biggest item to know going in wrt the RLA is perceived job actions and social media.  Someone joining now, where most majors are in negotiations, and a newb goes keyboard Rambo because negotiations cause heated emotions, could result in said newb getting the heave ho and turned into an example by mgmt.

    A. Year 1.  STFU except for asking questions and gaining GK/insight.  Understand what a job action is and why its bad.

    B. Be very cautious with forums/FB.  Trolls be living there too and love to bait.  Some go straight to HR with their complaints.

    C. Those unfortunate to get lined up in mgmt crosshairs for online behavior, the Union rep will be standing there right beside you.

  5. Probably.

Along that line, it was interesting to see when KBR got the award for Djibouti many years ago and let go a few hundred locals that the locals effective blockaded any KBR vehicles from entering/exiting the base, forcing KBR to rehire them.  Local PD did nothing.

Another anecdote, one month in Salem, a few TCNs spent a few weeks busting concrete using two pieces of rebar, one to hold against the concrete, the other to hammer with.  No formal tools, like a chain gang.

  6. 180+ day living location.

Mess around with it at your tax penalty peril.  I've heard of some in our biz try that, but I like freedom and I prefer the IRS chase rich douches rather than me.

That dude got lucky (and not with a fat chick).  Like CH already said, that guy reacted fast.  He didn't even have time to fart before punching.  Cool video.

But he just stands there.  War zone right?  Shot came from somewhere nearby maybe?  No evasion?

OK, this is kinda fun.  I opened Goog translate to read the remarks on the tube vid link.  ОФИГЕТЬ, pronounced Okhrenet' means Fuck in Russian.  Ha!!  Also, when he speaks on the radio, he says, "Bro, everything is fine."  But the comments to the comments is a rabbit hole of back-forth Ukraine vs Russia internet bitchfest in their cultural dialog.

I think we're looking at a Democratic Senate and a Republican House.  The GOP picked some profoundly unready celebrity candidates (Dr. Oz & Herschel Walker) and likely thrown away a couple of very winnable races.  We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Here's a comedian giving Herschel a roll of rubbers.

  9. But maybe there are some that want to see The Rock in tights and being a meany.  Oh wait, that's Pro Wrestling.  When its on streaming for free, maybe I'll see it on a commute.  Sometimes, all anyone wants is some good ol bashfest between supes cause they don't really get hurt, kinda like Pro Wrestling.  So it'll be the WWF/WWE crowd will be in the theaters, and they don't read the SF Chronicle.

  10. Anyone try Schwab for checking and savings?  I already have a brokerage account there and adding banking seems better than USAA.  Website says the brokerage and checking link up.  Says unlimited ATM fee refunds, free checks, billpay, etc.  Basically everything USAA already has and better in some areas.

Just asking if anyone has used them and any feedback.  Thanks

  11. Dear Awesome Aviator,

Have you tried the line out/fill in flight orders trick and add yourself at brief time?  It's a great way to get to know another pilot and they would love to be surprised.  Also, said FGO may to trying to avoid embarrassment... of you, so be sure to nail those awesome maneuvers of yours.  Best of luck and happy drunk posting.

  12. Wanna have some SF fun and make em cry?  Rent one of these from Hertz.  Introducing the The Shelby GT-H (H for Hertz).  500HP of 'Merican V8 power, sporting a Hertz custom Borla exhaust (sounds AWESOME), fat tires, big brakes, 10 speed auto tranny (so you can keep both hands of the wheel of this power monster).  You can rent this in SFO.  Now I will add that more fun is had if you go north and get into the winding roads.  Every gallon of gas is a blast.  So Much Fun!  0-60 in 3.9s, and I know, Tesla Plaid blah blah blah, but Tesla sounds like eh.  This baby growls all the way, so they hear you coming... and going.

SHELBY AMERICAN, HERTZ AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY LAUNCH 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION FORD SHELBY GT-H | Ford Media Center

Hertz is also making some custom 900+ HP supercharged Shelby GT500s for rent, but none for SFO.

    Quick yes or no question:

Do rules/regulations, either set by US law and/or regulatory organizations, ever impact what a business decides to do or not do?

Don't know, ain't gonna try.  Ask an oil field expert if you really want to know.  You get an internet point.

We have millions of barrels of SPR to refill. Probably not a lot of bottleneck there.

True.  Just pointing out that more oil drilling capacity probably doesn't directly equate to lower prices at the pump.
