Zelensky has literally said his objectives are to regain all lost territory, to include the Crimea.  I do not think this will happen, and I think the longer the fighting goes on, Ukraine loses more, not less territory.  You can provide whatever analysis you want, but I’m speaking strictly on simple predictions which you seem to not want to provide.  If I can provide a simple prediction to a simple question, then surely you are able to do the same.  If I’m wrong, then so be it, but at least I’ll provide a prediction.

I mean, let's put it in perspective: the discussion of land lost in the last year is 0.2% of Ukraine's land mass (As of this morning at 6am: 552 sq miles out of 233,062...Source).

I am sure any countries leader worth a damn would say their definition of victory is to regain ALL invaded territory. It isn't very realistic for him to publicly say he is okay with Crimea being the sacrificial lamb. Behind closed doors in a negotiated settlement? Maybe it'll be different. But I can't fault him for his patriotism.

I think well equipped Ukrainians can regain land from the Russians, after all, from June to December they liberated 199 sq miles. Russia has "only" occupied 294 sq miles from this April to May with their major offensive which coincided with Ukraine's major artillery shell shortage.

Meanwhile, an underequipped Ukraine is still managing to schwack oil depots and major infrastructure in Novorossyisk and a refinery in Tuapse, not to mention the attack on aviation assets in Belbek Air Base, to name a few recently.

We will see how they do after the next shipment of equipment arrives.

On another forum, a Navy NFO stated there are some USAF jets with A2A kill silhouettes painted on them, from "kills" in exercises.  Can anyone confirm this?  Signs ridiculous... but in the AF of today, I can't rule it out.
if true, probably part of some DEI program?

Granted, I'm just a lowly herbivore but I think simulated kill silhouettes are beyond dumb.

But here is the Navy doing it in 2009:

The pesky Germans in 2012 (and I don't believe they have any sense of humor):

But while we are the subject, another Growler just showed up with this:

Is this comment still accurate for the 89th and the typical missions of the various airframes?

Also can anyone speak to the application/interview process and how competitive is it actually? We get the pdsms and I know a few dudes that didn't get call backs, but there's certainly mystery around the numbers on total applied vs interviewed vs selected.

I separated back at the end of 2023, but it still sounds busy over there. Demand exceeds capacity, so it'll always be busy.

As for hiring, I believe a lot of functionals aren't releasing people. If you actually get the in person interview invite then you have a pretty good chance of getting hired. At that point, it's more timing (provided you don't bomb the interview)...some people have to interview twice just for timing.

It is damn impressive that he is both a tabbed ranger and sapper. It also looks like he has air assault and jump wings. While I am all for expanding the breadth of knowledge...all of this seems excessive for a Space Force ADO assigned to a TES.

Dude should have just joined the Army.

Of course it's on the amn/nco page within minutes. I hope they find and absolutely crucify the source. Gawking at aircraft mishaps and posting pics for clout should be an immediate discharge

Let's just be happy it's not a strategic asset this time (ie: B-2 runway departure, B-1 ILS scrape, etc). The AF really needs to get back to basics with the OPSEC from the nonners. MX or OPs gets warned about taking pics of the flight line/incidents. Everyone else? Not so much.

I'm doing my AA quarterly online training and one lesson describes what to look for to report human trafficking. Who do you report human trafficking to if the government is facilitating the trafficking?

It makes me feel really safe when I get randomed 96.69% of the time but then my illegal immigrant passengers are flying for free with no ID or background check AND yet I have to show TSA 2 forms of ID.

Another Russian Cruiser converted to submarine!

If nothing else, every branch should all be thoroughly concerned with figuring out defenses against drones.

    Outstanding!

But one point of correction: based on the title I was thinking it was a Kirov or another Slava (remember when they sank the Moskva back in 2022) class...the ship in this video was "only" a Corvette.

  8. Sorry to hear. But, it sounds like you have a great attitude and that is very important.

One of my buddies was in a similar situation and ended up getting force shaped back in 2010 time frame...he went on to go to a big name business school, owns his own airplane, and is a multimillionaire. He mostly regrets not serving in the AF up to his personal standard, but I'm sure he isn't sad while driving his Aston Martin.

Overheard in ops from someone who’s flown both:

Guppy is the better airplane, Fifi is the better office

Disclaimer: I've only flown the C-40, not an airline 737, but I'm now flying the 320.

The Guppy's FMS, overall flows, VNAV, climb rate and stopping distance are way better than the bus, IMO. 2 cup holders, hooray! Jump seat is meh...deer stand is torture.

The Bus is slightly quieter at cruise but takes for ever to get there. Not monitoring the engine start is neat. The autoflap retract on a heavy climb out is weird since you basically have to overspeed it then trust the automation to prevent an actual overspeed. The lack of an auto let down ability at TOD is annoying. But it's super easy to "fly" and I do enjoy the tray table. Jump seats way better.

Overall, I'll fly which ever one results in a better schedule. Oddly, at my domicile the bus is more junior than the guppy on the FO side so that's why I picked it.

I get the feeling there will be a certain ilk of people with zero shame who will take advantage of this like those pre-boarding in a wheelchair.  But in the end, it's a lot harder to fake being fat than it is being disabled.

I didn't get the joke at first on OE when my CKA remarked that the FA's will cure 3/4's of the pax getting on early in wheelchairs. After we put the jet to sleep I noticed a good half dozen wheel chair pushers still waiting for pax when I got off and told them the jet was now empty.

ukraine is losing. that is a fact. what is your plan to fix that besides throwing money at the problem?

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/12/politics/takeaways-volodymyr-zelensky-washington

zelensky wouldn't be begging for money in DC if things were all good

That is not a fact. Just because the dude is campaigning for support doesn't mean they are losing. They have been retaking an impressive amount of land that was previously occupied from the Russians (reference this post).

Is it a tough situation? Yes, obviously...but the Ukrainian military will be much better off with modern weapons that can help minimize their casualties while maximizing Russian casualties. They have done wonders with HIMARs and artillery alone.

I’m off the week before and thru Christmas!

I purposely bid Xmas eve & day and NYE & NY day (LAS overnight...could be dangerous) for the extra 21 hours in pay.

That's what's great about the airlines. With enough seniority, you can do what you actually want.

Buyer beware, they run narrow. Short story: I gave myself a bunch of stress fractures in my right foot doing a ruck program in these. My foot being scrunched up coupled with a long, heavy ruck was a magical combo for a world of pain.

That's actually a feature, not a bug, because now you get another 10% VA disability. These boots make you money!!!

I don't recall if I got mine wide or not...but I hiked Banff (no ruck) and didn't have any complaints.
