  1. thanks!
  2. ok, so I've been wearing contacts since 1994. Soft lenses the whole time (Surevue, Acuvue 2)...I've work Acuvue 2 disposable lenses since they came out in '99. This past Thurs I had my annual CLP exam, and the optometrist recommended Acuvue Oasys for me due to being a better breathing lense. I wore a trial pair for 2 days when my right eye started freaking out, itchy, scratchy, dry, and then after I took the lenses out and slept overnight crusty and a nice chunk of eye "sleep". I did some research this weekend and there seem to be lots of folks out there who have had issues with the Oasys and other silicone-based lenses. Is it worth it for me to get a trial pair of the Acuvue Advance, or just stick with the tried and true Acuvue 2?
  3. for determining line numbers for Major's Boards, etc, it's all date of rank based. Then there are tie-breakers (for Zoo grads, class rank at graduation is something like tiebreaker #5). Then it's birthday (whose is earlier), and I shit you not the last tiebreaker is SSN backward, whoever has the lowest number. There's a knowledge document spelling out exactly how line numbers are determined on the AFPC website (which I can't access from home). https://gum.afpc.randolph.af.mil/cgi-bin/askafpc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4384&p_created=1119799032&p_sid=*BitZz*j&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=13634&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NSw1JnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1ob3cgaXMgeW91ciBsaW5lIG51bWJlciBkZXRlcm1pbmVkPw**&p_li=&p_topview=1&rstr_flag=1 edit to add the link for those who can access from a .mil computer "Determining Officer Promotion Line Numbers"
  4. I'm sure there are many folks whose blood boils without being at FL630. I just wouldn't want to be one of them.
  5. touche Herc Driver - see my post above about the AFRC/ANG units. They're always looking to hire!
  6. angels is in the 3-2.5 Joint Brevity pub. Maybe you should check it out sometime.
  7. Kick ass for the Combat Kings on their first mission in OEF! https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/04/airforce_bastion_hc130_042310/
  8. ADSC has only been 10 years for those who came on active duty in 2000 or later and attended pilot training. Navs and ABMs don't have the same ADSC. Plus there's a program called Palace Chase.
  9. Here's a toast...
  10. I knew Randy from his stint as an IP at Mother Rucker. Here's a toast...
  11. have they released names? Post a link please.
  12. I've got some friends in that community. :(
  13. Safety has NOTHING to do with AIBs. You must go talk to the SJA about those.
  14. is a lip light not working out for you? Go talk to your AFE troops, they probably have a stash of lip lights in a drawer somewhere.
  15. so you go to AF.mil and find the story by clicking on "News" and looking for it. Oh, look, it took me 6.9 seconds to find the unbroken link to the above story, dated 30 Mar. It's not that hard. https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123197526
  16. AIBs are also on NIPR, and anyone can access them. https://usaf.aib.law.af.mil/
  17. but the article is a week old.
  18. did you read the article? All your answers are there.
  19. some more interesting news: https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/03/airforce_csar_recap_032810w/ From the Federal Business Opportunities page https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=e0d2f218043862f1a8f4e3c3d1200c83&tab=core&_cview=1 : PIXS link referenced in the above document for more detailed info: https://www.pixs.wpafb.af.mil/pixs_solicitation.asp?id=6470 From looking at the posted definition on the SCL, and the initial requirement to be able to conduct an OGE hover at 6000'/35ยบ with 2500 lbs of fuel departing the zone (based on current fuel flow numbers of 1200 lbs/hr by my math), they're at least throwing out realistic scenarios. Do these numbers automatically exclude certain airframes due to not being able to meet the stated performance parameters? Of course, as clearly stated, the above is just a "feeler," not an actual RFP.
  20. for a TDY enroute, you get BAH for your previous location while banking TDY pay for the current TDY. I'm not sure if they will "start" BAH for you at your UPT base when you leave. My guess is probably no.
  21. it's funny how multiple airframes consider themselves to be the red-headed step children of the AF...your sentiment above almost exactly describes CSAR, as well. They can't decide what MAJCOM they want us in, the MAJCOM can't decide what mission sets we can perform, Congress is having heartburn over the replacement airframe...

    Baseops Chat

yeah, that's what I'm doing now, and it works like a champ. I just leave that extra tab open while I'm browsing the forums and if someone else joins the room, it makes a ding dong sound to notify me. So far only two people have chatted with me (at least while I've been online).

    Baseops Chat

would it be possible to have the chat be a module at the top of each forum, instead of its own thing? That way I could be chatting at the same time I'm browsing a forum or thread...
  24. yes and yes.
  25. so what exactly do we need advanced boresight equipment for? I can think of several possibilities: a. when the copilot neglects to do a PPOS on the INS prior to shutdown b. when the copilot neglects to ensure proper coords prior to starting the GC align (see a.) c. the GPS isn't keyed, and so won't do an air align of the INS, and the pilots forgot how to do a fix/flyover/update (or never knew in the first place) d. for the fire control system that we really really need https://www.defpro.com/news/details/13375/
