  1. Unlike most of the jets in the USAF inventory, the 17 uses a high impedance electret mic just like GA, so I'm thinking the Bose helicopter model which has the U-174 plug would work but... I went and looked up the C-17 issued DC's wiring diagram, http://www.davidclar...PL19518P-03.pdf , come to find out they have a non standard earphone impedance as well--1200 Ohms hooked in parallel for a total of 600 Ohms vs the standard of around 300 ohms for every other headset I could find DC, bose etc... I'm probably over thinking it.

thread revival.. So I bought this MIL to GA adapter for my C-17 headset:

    http://www.marvgolden.com/mg-09-helicopter-to-g-a-headset-adapter.html

And it worked in a Cessna 182. The earphone impedance was definitely higher as I had to turn the volume all the way up to hear everything. I'm going to mod my headset and see if I can reduce it down to 300 ohms since I'll never get to fly a C-17 again anyways.

  2. AFSOC or ACC MQ-9?

I have the option to possibly go to Reapers (voluntarily from another MWS), with a choice of Creech or Cannon. Unfortunately I have less than 2 weeks to make a decision based on the Spring move cycle.

Sounds like manning is continuing to improve, reducing the ass-pain for AFSOC guys. Cannon was my going-in vector based on proximity to home for me (C-Springs), but my hesitation is being forever assigned to Cannon because of the grip AFSOC maintains on guys once assigned. An appeal to me is the more competitive nature of the community. In my brief discussions with RPA guys, the AFSOC Reapers are the self-proclaimed Alphas...which true or not, is at least a mindset.

Any feedback helping to distinguish between AFSOC and ACC would be greatly appreciated.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. We need more folks like you to jump on these grenades.

  3. Has anyone turned down SOS in-residence recently? I.e. you get a spot and tell your boss you'd rather not go. Contemplating this with the new 8-week format. I'm SOS by correspondence complete. I'm not disgruntled, just don't feel like spending any more time away from home or with shoes for 8 weeks. Thoughts?

Don't go so that there are more slots for guys like me who want it.

  4. From Limerick huh?

There once was a woman who was a whore

She loved to get plowed on all fours

But after a while, the old "doggy style" wasn't enough to satisfy anymore!

    wow.. just wow

  5. But of course! It's the same "government" that is bringing you such well thought out programs such as the RIF, VSP, foreign aid to Pakistan, and death taxes. Are you surprised by this?

Well I checked the single engine box and almost got away with it but the FSDO guy caught it at the last min.

  6. Currently dudes with RPA wings can not deploy to LRE's. Takeoff/landing actually requires pilot stick and rudder skills, unlike the state-side mission portion. That being said, Navigators with a PPL are allowed to deploy to the LRE. I imagine AF will make this same exception for RPA only folks.

Also, the initial class of UPT-D dudes will hit their three year mark in May of 2012...so no word on their assignment process yet. The only guidance they received was 10% can expect to go to CAF (only 38 dudes to the CAF, probably no fighters, expect bombers) and 90% MAF.

I know of at least 1 beta that's leaving for an LRE deployment. I would expect more RPA dudes to start doing LRE in the near future.

  7. Everyone here got what they wanted. If you wanted to stay in drones, you will (obviously), and if you didn't, you hopefully won't have to. If you were released, it's not guaranteed you'll go back to your previous jet. No timeline was given and no clue what to expect for an assignment, but I am cautiously less pessimistic.

    did you get released?
