Never should have been a mandate.  I will never forget all the COVID psychos within our ranks and the massive damage they caused; they were pushing a mandatory booster so hard but thank God that didn’t become policy.  What a tragic episode in DOD.  There must be accountability or we’ll never recover legitimacy.

Some of these psychos are on this very forum.  They were cheering/hoping all those against covid shots would have their careers ruined and/or booted from the military.  I hope I can get our guy back to training in time to give a big fuck you to any of his former CCs who treated him like a piece of shit when they pulled him from the B-Course with a few rides to go.  I'm also hoping the government is force to back pay him, though I'm not holding my breath.

I have absolutely zero confidence that there will be much accountability for the stupid decisions made over the last few years.  Fuck, even the memo states it only protects those "currently in the military."  I'd imagine that some lawsuits will follow and some may get back in (though I'm not sure why they'd want to) or at least get some form of payout.

Its like people sat on the train tracks for 2 years watching a train coming at them in slow motion and just said it was going to be ok over and over. Now they are realizing they are about to be hit by a train and they are scared and want accountability?

Like good lord, I can go back in this thread to 2020 and see people talking about this exact topic. It was well known hospitals received additional federal funding based on "how bad" the COVID pandemic appeared to hit their facilities and associating deaths with COVID was the best way to secure more grants.

This is my shocked face...  But holy hell, a few years ago, you didn't want to be the guy who even hinted at this.  "You clearly don't follow the science!"  "...why do you want to kill my kids/parents?!?!!??!?"

How many people did we kill via depression because of the lockdowns?  Maybe it didn't make blimp on the chart, but it might be an interesting stat to see.

  2. They always catch ya in the end!

Just hope it happens on AD and they don't catch you until you're in the Guard... The story is too convoluted and hard to explain in full detail, but I'll do my best to paraphrase.

Bottom line, AD finance jacked up big time and paid taxes to DFAS when they shouldn't have (overseas pay from a tax free zone). By the time they figured it out their mistake, my squadron mate had transferred to the Guard. Apparently, the AD system can't talk to the Guard system, so they couldn't simply garnish his wages.

The AD finally reached him and tried to tell him he had to pay them 10k and that he'd get it back in his taxes. He told the AD to pound sand and fix their own up. They threatened him more and he told them to pound more sand. Somewhere in there, he got his State Senator father involved. He won!

Awesome link, thank you for posting!  Pages of worthless NOTAMS with “runway closed” buried in the middle is one of many frustrating realities I’ve accepted but wish I could fix.  Genuinely refreshing to read that website.

Circa brand new Major SocialD days...I'm the flight lead on an AOS from the states to Eastern Europe.  I have 2 very young wingman (1 fairly weak swimmer) and a solid flight lead (generally) as my number 3.  The AOS rep (a Nav...foreshadowing!) briefs the notams as "no big show stoppers," and hands me the printout of notams.  I hand them to my number 3 and ask him to take a peak and make sure we're good, then go about my other duties.

    Fast forward to the middle of the Atlantic as we prep for another AR...bad news, boom won't unstow.  Only real options for an MRB is either Keflavik or Lossiemouth (is that even a real place?).  Lossiemouth is OVC003, +RA and direct cross at 20kts and we have just enough gas to make it there with IFR reserves.  KEF is winds calm and CAVOK and we'll be burners and boards to burn some gas for landing...obvious choice is KEF.  Check in with KEF approach and the conversation goes as follows;

Approach: Confirm you have the notam for the shortened runway?

    Me: (on AUX)....ummm 3, WTF?!?!

    #3:  Standby...

Approach:  Runway is shortened to 2,100 meters....

Me:  *pondering what that is in real units of measurement*

    #2: (nerd type)...that's like 6,900 feet.

Me:  STFU #2...3 isn't that like 6,900 feet?

    Me:  You awake 3?

#3:  Ya sorry dude, the runway notam was in the middle of page 2 of the KEF notams.

On the plus side, we got to do an epic VFR tour of Iceland at like 4,000 ft while we burned gas.  FYSA, we can only go below 8k with an OG waiver.  Or...6,900 feet with a 4-ship flight lead, we ain't got anywhere else to go waiver. :thefinger:

Bottom line...never trust a fucking NAV!

  4. Man I hope this is legit! The dumb fucks a Luke stopped one of my guys less that was aweek or two from finishing the B-Course. Now, "saving those 6-9 rides," will cost the AF an entire B-Course, and then some. Instead of spending the last 2 years honing his skills as a fighter pilot, he's been languishing...waiting on our "leaders" to stop making the wrong decision.

  5. So best I can tell you can not go back and get the bonus now that the year is over.  However, you can sign a bonus under the assumption you will get a years worth of orders (small bonus only I think) in the future.  So once you get a years worth of orders (after signing the bonus at the beginning of that year) you then just submit the orders as proof.  As always read up on the bonus paperwork and talk with your AvB SME.

What I don't appreciate though is the immediate defeatism that we shouldn't investigate something that could be highly beneficial and advancing for our society because of a few barriers. What happened to "America'ing the fuck up" and dumping huge sums of money into research and engineering to develop innovative and new solutions that are advancing on a civilization and industrial wide level. Remember when people said a rail to the west couldn't be built? Remember when people said space travel was impossible? Remember when people said airplanes were a fad? We're the smartest and most innovative country on the planet. If we want something that's going to make our lives better lets stop bitching about it and "America the fuck up" and do it.

Since we're talking about rail.  Building the rail to the west was done because they had monopolies, an abundance of free land (sorry Native Americans), access to basically slave labor, and a severe lack of laws/lawyers.  We also didn't have a shortage of people who were willing to do anything they had to do to get the job done, especially if someone got in the way...  One of the many reasons we moved west so fast was because of our ability to quickly move people/supplies down the Mississippi for relatively cheap.  Today...we have the Jones Act.  While I support the Jones Act, it's good thing it was enacted before we moved west, or it would have cost A LOT more in both time, and money.

For a more real time example of how nuetered we have become.   We're stuck using this piece of shit Pex, which apparently is on funding life support.  Meanwhile, the free market has created a far superior product, but the AF keeps blocking that program from the network.  We get in our own way wrt efficiency and progress.  Why?  Because someone isn't getting paid.

We have some ACA AGR’s but most of the guys that contribute are on ADOS. None of the ACA type orders (AGR or ADOS) have been USERRA exempt for us. However, some dudes have submitted their ADOS orders through Reduced Retirement and have had luck getting them approved. I really think that simply comes down to who is reviewing your order sets on any given day.   But like SocialID said, what’s a brother gotta do to get some USERRA exempt ONE orders?

We're the exact opposite, we only have a few ADOS spots and use the rest as AGRs.  WRT the early retirement credit, just make sure they're looking at the "approved" and not the "tentatively approved," or whatever the verbiage is on the two tabs.  We all thought the same thing until someone realized that there are two different tabs.  The guys who really made out where the dudes that went to UPT on title 10 orders right after me.  Supposedly, all of training up through their MEST counted for early retirement credit.  I hope that's true.

As far as our local manning I have watched it go from feast to famine and back to feast. It’s a buyers market. Last year we had guys on orders for the whole year, only coming off ONE orders for a quick deployment, then back to ONE. For the first time since pre-COVID we are going to have guest help because we don’t have enough volunteers. Going to be an interesting year!

Been a buyers market in my squadron for a few years now.  We're having to tell dudes off AD that they HAVE to take an AGR job if they want into the squadron...no room for part-timers.  Actually, the only reason I extended my retirement out another year is because we had so many of our Lt Col's get hired at the airlines.  Our entire future leadership stable was in training/OE/probation and didn't want to take part-time CC gigs as new hires lol.   Good thing is they're all about to finish probation and come back on orders.  Bad thing is the process is about to repeat itself again as we have about 5ish full timers that will likely get hired this year.

    3 hours ago, Duck said:

SocialD and mp5g, are your orders title 10? Our orders are title 10 Contingency so they look exactly like deployment orders. Just trying to figure out why you guys wouldn’t be USERRA exempt like us.

Title-32...  Now we know the rest of the story..still interested in why they would be different.

Sounds like guard bum life for non-RPA units is back if it is wanted

It is at my squadron, problem is very few people actually want to bum lol.  Everyone who wants orders, is getting them.  We actually had to turn back a bunch of orders last year because we couldn't use them.  That was after we gave a bunch of orders to ~5 guys from various squadrons to sit alert.  With 72 AFTPs now, as a part-timer, it's actually hard to burn all the AFTPs/UTAs, without taking a big pay hit.

I question why anyone outside of 5 or so years to retirement would want to stick around full time to be honest. I’m sure every unit and every airframe is different.

I don't think we have any that do.  The only guys in my squadron who stick around full time are the ones who are within 5 years of their 20.  I certainly didn't lol.

  8. 15 minutes ago, Duck said:

It is crazy how these orders are all over the place. I was talking to another base that all of their guys get full per diem while on ONE. At my base you have to live >75 miles away from base.

It's all about controlling the budget.  I've only ever gotten per diem for alert when I was sitting alert with other squadrons.

    15 minutes ago, Duck said:

Then from what I understand the fighter guys on ONE are all AGR?

We're heavy AGR but have a few ADOS spots as well (each unit can adjust the mix a little year-by-year), but NONE of them are USERRA exempt.  There was push a while back, but I think it was shot by the ANGRC/CC or somewhere up there.  It's just odd that you guys would get it (not hating...I'm glad you do) but we do not.

Good info. Our orders are ONE Alert and USERRA Exempt but not statutory. Would have been nice to get the $35-25k, but still if I can grab some $15k bonuses for my guys, every little bit helps. It’s getting tougher as the airlines start to get more desperate for bodies.

Wait wut?  You guys have ONE alert orders that are USERRA Exempt?  What's a brother gotta do to get USERRA exemption for the ONE alert orders my guys are on.

  10. 12 minutes ago, Duck said:

Thanks Brabus! The only problem with Tier 1 is it says it’s for AGR or Statutory Tour Only. Does anyone know what a Statutory Tour is?

Title 10 orders working for NGB.  You'd know it if you, or anyone in your squadron were on a stat tour.  They're actually a good deal if you're looking to extend MLOA to get to that retirement.  The orders are USERRA exempt, which is a good deal the NGB keeps for themselves, but can't seem to extend to various orders throughout the system (cough alert...).

WTF Delta?  Anyone have more info on this case?

Yes, there is a lot more than meets the eye.  Some people love to hold her up on a pedestal because they hate everything Delta and/or management.  I freely admit they fucked up in how they tried to get rid of her, and they payed for that, but from the sounds of it, they weren't necessarily wrong...  Flown with a few guys that flew with her and they pretty much called it.  There is a thread over on APC that will provide some of the data.  But this should help her book sales/webpage/public persona that she's created...

Tbh, if you've tactically vol-mildropped or vol-mloa at any point in your 121 stint, you aren't really in a position to get defensive about JA et al existing in your cba. i dont care how crappy the work pay ratio is at .mil either, as people recognize pay is not the feature behind chasing mildrop or MLOA.

Tactical mil dropping isn't my bag, though it clearly happens.  Actually, I generally don't ever drop MLOA unless it's to go TDY or a deployment.  I can usually work mil around my airline schedule and only drop sparingly.  So there is no "feature" for chasing mloa, it's actually a huge detriment for me.  The only reason I'm on MLOA now is because of a deployment...working full time in the military is pretty painful to me anymore.  On the home stretch though, 6 months!

if JA isn't a real threat at DL, that's excellent news. It shouldn't be at all at any outfit paying top 10% US individual income; which was my actual point, before it got strawmanned to hell. BL it's reality at swa though, based on what i witness at work (plurality swa cohort).

I just find it a bit unbecoming one has to feign sickness or hide behind the Uniform in order to not be treated like a sonic carhop 5 minutes late to a $11/hr shift. Frankly id take the 11 bucks in lieu of 220, if they threw in not treating me like i didnt just flew 150 people and brought everything back in one piece. But that's my "future retiree" privilege talking, which I of course wont apologize for and fully own. To each their own as we say.

Meh, it's something that was allowed (or forced) into the contract, that has not been negotiated away, likely because it's such a low threat item.  I generally spending time worrying about stuff that isn't likely to happen at my airline gig.

    Happy New Year brother!

Love how they did this......never bothered to evaluate the spray system/parameters required before "converting" to the J.  Well, they'll just figure it out after the fact I guess....  way to go AFRC.  Hoping this gets shit canned

This shouldn't really come as a surprise to you.  In the same state, Mansfield Guard went from C-130s to slated for closure by BRAC.  Then they were told they weren't close and may be flying C-21s (I think).  Instead, they actually received and flew C-27s, for like 10 seconds.  Then they got C-130s back (but I think they were older models than they had before) for a while.  They recently lost their C-130s and stood up a Cyber Wing.  At this rate, they'll be a fighter squadron in a few years...

  14. Great question.  You SHOULD be able to do that (after the fact), but that would be logical and I'm not sure the AF has advanced that far lol.  We give bonuses to DSG's who take a year+ set of ADOS (alert) orders.  But if the orders are flowing a quarter at a time, I'm not sure how that works.  You have me interested, I'll ask around next week.

Exactly. I think part of it is that they can see retroactively who has masters and who doesn’t and they are pissed how many o4 selects don’t have it and they slugged through getting a check the box degree to be eligible to go to ACSC in-res just to get ANOTHER check the box degree and they are mad that the rest of us chose more time with family/primary duties than some Liberty University bs

Imagine if they found out that tons of ARC O-5's and O-6's don't have a Master's.  I bet they'd have an aneurysm if they found out we have some O-5's, who don't have a Master's, and didn't do SOS or ACSC.

  16. Looks like I was pretty close on the masked/unmasked iterations in my career. If the AF truly cared about you having a Masters, they'd send you to a brick and mortar school. At the very least, they'd provide time during the normal work day for you to work on it.  Getting a bullshit masters from Touro online is a waste of everyone's time/money and window dressing at best.  They should work on things that give you more quality time with your family, not less...

What’s old is new again. Seems like bad faith to drop the policy the week after Christmas and make it effective on 1 Jan. Definitely shows how the AF really feels.

I'll see that and raise you a policy that was enacted and BACK DATED by multiple months.  When they took the 3 for 1's from alert, they didn't just throw down with "as of today," they back dated it by multiple months. This meant that we had a part-timer who had already worked and was expecting 21 days of pay...he got 8.  Guess how much help we got from part timers after that...

Anyway, back on subject, what is this, the 3rd or 4th time they've done this shit in the last 15 years?  Like they said above, fire up a linkedIn account and you'll be surprised at that options you'll have.

I used to think JA (or equivalent terminology) was only an FFD carrier dynamic. Do all airlines effectively have JA work provisions? Kinda smears the glitter off the airline humblebrag about days off....

Yes, at DAL, you could walk off the plane and be met by a "company representative," and handed a trip that starts the next day.  The main ways out of the trip are to be sick, have child care issues or not be rested.  Now if something like that happened to me, I'd probably be sick to my stomach lol.  That said, that hasn't happened in the near decade I've been here, not even during some pretty epic meltdowns.

To your last point.  This year, I averaged 8-9 days worked and 3 nights away per month while averaging ~100 hours/month of pay.  I recently went on activation orders and now I'm working twice as much, while making 50% of what I was making (I'm a 21 year O-5)...that's some smeared glitter lol.
