  1. Unfortunately, I think that's going to be more difficult as a result of this shooting - at least at public places like this. People tend to pawn off their security on others even after failures like this.

Too true...something like this is perfect proof why law-abiding citizens should have CCW. But of course the left-wingers will just cry for more gun control because they're too stupid and blind to see gun control only hurts law-abiding citizens, not assholes like this who are going to commit these crimes regardless of how many laws are made.

Thoughts and prayers with those affected last night. I can't imagine how terrible it must be for the families involved.

  2. Was it an african Globemaster or a european Globemaster?

I think what matters more is if the AC's favorite color is red...or is it blue?

Seriously though...how in the world do you mistake the 3600' runway at Peter O Knight for the 11,421' (plus God's Own Apron) at MacDill?

    DURING THE DAY!?!?

    IN VMC!?!

Even worse, there was more than one person sitting up front...how in the hell 1 out of 2+ people can't figure this out is beyond me.

  3. Since I know nothing about airdrops: Is it standard if the first pass results in off DZ, you KIO and go home? I would just think you'd make corrections and still go for a 2nd pass. Not true?

I don't know if the pilot fucked up or not, but I do know jumping out of planes is hazardous and shit happens. I don't see how it's the pilot's fault the dude caught a gust of wind which resulted in his death. You don't want to risk dying while skydiving/static-lining, then don't do it. It's that simple...maybe not. Just seems really fucked up.

.take all the stuff you gather and old medical records with you to get the FCI and hand it over this will make it a lot faster process

That should definitely speed up the "there's the door" process. Solid advice.

  5. The huge med process to become a pilot is filled with people looking for the slightest thing to DQ you. Something that seems benign/harmless in mentioning to you is exactly what is a "big deal" to them and will get your dreams crushed. I'm not saying lie about getting knocked out in a car accident a year ago or that you currently have severe asthma (just examples), but telling them you felt light headed a few times and sat down on the couch for 10 sec to "fix the issue" is dumb. Use discretion during this process...the med process IS NOT here to help you.

Disapproved. They were an hour late. My "fight tank fight" turned into a "fight and wonder where the hell the tanker is, then RTB min fuel." WTFO. Thanks for not letting ANYONE know you were going to be an hour late to the ARCT.

True, but I don't blame the lateness on the boomer...had to be those slack ass pilots making hot pockets. I mean the guy no shit read my tail number off the jet and actually followed EMCON 2. It was consecutive miracles! Ram on the bright side, at least you didn't brief FTF BFM only to find out MX has one A/A jet and one 2 bag/SUU/TGP jet. Thanks guys...

On 2nd thought, Bullet brings up a good point...must have been Chuck Norris. It's the only logical explanation.

  7. Of course, they'll be supported by "black world" tankers.....I hear those guys only operate in cloud (for stealth) and the booms don't even ask for tail numbers.

I think I got some gas from a black tanker today...he didn't ask for my tail number, he told me my tail number. It's like he just knew...or read it right off the fucking jet, either way. That boomer deserves a bronze star, stat.

As long as your wife is a meek mouse who will take care of everything that could interfere with your job, you will be fine. If on the other hand, your wife has a pulse and a spine, you could have some challenges along the way.[

    Okay... Thanks?

My wife's very type A, career, etc. Far from a "meek mouse." However, she also is supportive and does a very good job at minimizing things that could interfere with my job. She takes care of a lot of stuff (including the kid) so I don't have to. I do everything I can to help when I'm home, but she's understanding of the time requirements my job demands. That's the bottom line: ensuring your wife understands the commitment required towards UPT and being a pilot in general...if she gets it, you'll do just fine, regardless of what her personality is.

Just don't forget to help as much as you can when able, give her a break on the weekends, do something she wants to do on Saturday, etc. Family will always be important, no matter how much time your job demands.

I actually work a lot less than all my bros that are going through TUI. I can't count how many times those dudes have commented that they have 6-9 essays to do on any given weekend. No thanks.

I seriously doubt that, assuming your school is what you made it out to be. TUI is the least amount of work ever required of me for a program. 6-9 essays sounds bad, but when they're all 2-5 pages and high-school level writing gets you an A....yeah, not really the same as a "legit school." Anyone who seriously compares the workload to a "legit school" is either lazy, stupid or just likes to complain.

  10. Serious...I take it you haven't yet waited on the dumbass who decided to do 10 min of pattern work after a vul, then had to talk to MX for 69 min about his Code 3 and then subsequently was not even within 5 min of being ready for the pre-mass while everyone else was? While that is on the "worst case" side of the scale, the point remains there's always something tactical you could be doing instead of logging an extra .1 or .2 in the pattern. Every sortie should minimize admin and maximize tactical learning...beating up the pattern is detracting from the latter to a varying extent, depending on the mission.

  11. The average Raptor Stud is at his "Captain's boards" with nothing but training reports when you add that they now do two b-courses.

The viper syllabus is just fam to flying a fighter so studs don't plant a Craptor in the ocean on TR-1 or BFM-1...its about 1.5-2 months as I recall. Hardly something you can call a b-course.

I've never understood the CAF's reluctance to do a touch-and-go, and to settle for a low approach

Because you'd be wasting time doing patterns when you could be getting into the vault sooner to get shots and start debriefing. Not to mention MX has to replace a shit ton of tires, and they'd be replacing a metric shit ton if everyone did touch and goes...if anything, doing low approaches helps them out and the "training" from 20 ft to 0 ft is extremely minimal at best.

  12. I should be allowed to take a shit in a bag in public next to a breast feeding mom

Just go back to Korea and you'll fit right in. I recommend adding Songtan Sally into the mix in some way. Don't forget to take pictures and email them to Masshole.

And the eagles replaced Misawa Vipers who sat in Elmendorf for 6 months.

Correction, 9 months. Not like there was anything else going on...right. Not the bros' fault...sucks to be in their position.

  14. WTF...maybe the numbers in AP1/B are going to Base Ops? Whichever base is the scheduling agency for the route, find a number to wing scheduling at the OSS and call them. They will know what you're talking about. Wing scheduling should also have SA, or at least be able to point you to the right person, regarding range availability in their area.

  15. I try that trick at Laughlin now and then, they still find me and give me vectors.

Uhh, you're VFR...unless it's in Class B or something just tell them to fuck off (in better terms of course). Unless of course you've accepted TRSA, but then that's your own damn fault.

Swanee - If you're going to fly a MTR, especially one that's highly used, I would schedule it to avoid potentially dangerous situations. Or if you don't have it scheduled, then have SA on when it is scheduled (you can even potentially get that info via radio from an aprch control, range control, etc.) or otherwise do some LATN work that avoids the confines of the MTR.

  16. You can bring it over, but like others said, it's going to rust like hell out this way. At first I was pissed I had to store my classic back in the states, but now I'm very glad I did. In addition to the rust (car storage issues, salt on roads, right on the ocean, etc.), the driving in Japan also sucks ass: few "real" highways, i.e. 98% of the driving is no shit on 2 lane roads with speed limits varying from 25-50 kph and the japanese love driving slower than the speed limit..so yeah, driving my BB vette is not exactly enjoyable at varying rates of 15-30 mph with limited to no availability to pass. I've only been to Kadena once, but I only saw the one tollway from Naha Airport to Kadena...maybe you can get a bit faster on that, but still nothing good. Just not worth it at all, unfortunately.
