  1. Yeah...don't know if the other bases show the video of the XL studs from late 90's in a -172 (with their girlfriends on board as well) doing "Iron Eagle" type stunts around the bluffs at Lake Amistad. A bunch of their buddies filmed them doing wingovers and such in very close proximity to the water and cliffs. A news report said they flew under the Hwy 90 bridge and later augered it in after a stall. All 4 killed.
This actually sounds like a good way to weed out the not-so-good pilots, kinda like natural selection. Let them go do all kinda high risk endeavors. The ones that make it back make the species stronger.
  2. You can always order a name tag for your leather jacket at www.mardonco.com Only takes a week or so to get to you.

Another option is to get a cold wx blues coat from clothing sales.

...and I've never seen anyone wear a green nomex jacket with their blues. Pretty sure that is a no. Check your bases' local Sup to 36-2903

  3. I've been told that the civilian gate guards must maintain the same physical fitness standards that AD does...I don't see how this is possible with some of the geriatric whales I've seen "guarding" the LR gates. There about as effective as a Wal-Mart greeter.

  4. So what are the odds that Hobbins is going to get rid of all the "Combat Stupid" programs? Or will he leave them in-place, believing that they are actually improving morale, or as one of those 'legacy' things for Doc.

  5. I left my F-150 in storage at Little Rock while I was stationed at Kadena. I used a private storage company and sent them a check once a month. Luckily for me, I had a good friend take care of it while I was gone for 4 years. I was never briefed on a "storage contractor", they just told me to find a storage place. I had to file a travel voucher once a month with a copy of my orders and a copy of the storage contract with their letterhead on it. I've been told that you can ship a vehicle to Japan as long as it is older than a 1976, something to do with Catalytic converters...although not sure. I've seen a few American cars here. My SQ/CC shipped over a '66 Mustang, although you have to do a few things to make it legal in Japan, adjust the headlights, blinkers on the sides. I'd recommend storage at gov't expense as you keep the miles low and can get it paid off.

  6. Well, as a Tech Sgt in the Air Force, let me throw in my view. First off, this guy was totally unprofessional and his actions were uncalled for. Maybe he was having a bad day, but that is no reason to give you the attitude that he did. I don't care if it's your first day as a 2nd LT, an officer is an officer, and he needs to show you the respect that comes with being an officer. And as such, I agree that you should deal with this yourself. Talk to him and find out what the deal is.

I've been very fortunate that I have never run into the "hot shot LT" that demands something. All the O's I've dealt with have been respectful of my opinions and time in service. Being in AWACS there are quite a few new O's that have never dealt with airmen and NCO's. I've talked to alot of the O's about how to handle situations with thier E's, and I always tell them the same thing. Try to handle it on a person to person level and professionally, but if all else fails, you're an officer and if you need to lower the hammer then do so.

  7. Hacker...you are so right! I checked and nowhere in there does it say that you can't. Awesome. I am going to encourage every airman I can find to start crushing his flight cap! I think we may actually be able to use this as a retention tool for the enlisted. I think my first stop will be finance and MPF, I'm sure I can find a couple of one or two stripers there who want to be cool. :D

  8. Yeah...maybe they were discussing the ROE:

IAF: Ok, we will have 20 airplanes airborne and you can have 6.

    USAF: Ummm, OK

IAF: You can have an AWACS, but their radar must be turned off.

    USAF: Ummm, OK

IAF: We will carry missiles and you can have guns only.

USAF: Well, OK...but we get full per diem!

IAF: I'm sorry but you guys are broke...we have nice tents for you to stay in!

Those aren't pilot wings...they are ABMer wings. Pilots have radiators, ABM'ers have....well, who the hell cares what they have on their wings.
  10. I was wondering if the flight characteristics of the Viper change when you have -120's on the wingtips as opposed to having 9's out there? I've heard that the plane handles better if the 120's are on the wingtips.

(I was asked by some guys that fly Falcon 4.0, yes I'm a sim geek!)
