  1. Regardless it's still pretty shitty, sts. Dude deserves a pension. Hopefully DADT will go away in the next few years and he can rejoin to finish his last two years.

He would get it under the proposed flex retirement plan where you are vested (granted only 25% of base pay, but better than nothing) to collect retirement at the 10 yr point. While the all or nothing retirement plan of today is quite nice if you make it 20 yrs, it screws a lot of guys over, who served 15+ yrs and didn't go the distance to 20.

  2. If we can here the noise then this place will be one step closer to feeling like being deployed. (waterless beach, out in the middle of nowhere, 100+ temps, combative local gov't, and now the sounds of explosions off in the distance)

Here or hear? You must be a gunner!

  3. Ran a search, this was the closest thing I could find on the subject but does anyone know if the T-1 is RVSM certified? If a T-1 is at FL320, do they need to follow the FAA directive and append "non RVSM" to each checkin with center?

    thanks

The couple times I've been above 280, I have. I guess the controllers need to know so they can still provide 2,000 feet separation for you since you're an outsider! Also, according to the FAR/AIM (2008) you should attach "non rvsm" to the items below. (page 152, table 4-6-1)

Pilot will report Non-RVSM status as follows:

    a. On the initial call on any frequency in the RVSM airspace and....

    b. In all requests for flight level changes pertaining to flight levels within the RVSM airspace and

    c. In all read backs to flight level clearances pertaining to flight levels within the RVSM airspace and

    d. In read back of flight level clearances involving climb and descent through RVSM airspace (FL 290-410)

  4. I actually think Obama didn't hear what Biden said... he kinda looked a bit lost when others were laughing.

Either way I thought it was quite funny!

He knew. Look at his body language. Pursed lips and a quick disapproving head shake, followed by nervous looking around with a fake smile. By Obama reacting the way he did, he just draws more attention to the joke. At least Bush was a light-hearted everyday Joe that could dodge a shoe to the face and still smile afterwards. If Obama doesn't lighten up, this is going to be a long 4 years.

  5. Just got a quote for $300 less per 6 months, using Geico instead of USAA to insure my two vehicles. I've been with USAA for 10 years and my family has been with them for almost 30 years, and I haven't had an issues with them, but $600 more per year for insurance is a lot for good service. Any Geico customers out there have any reviews? Price looks good but do they handle claims timely and with ease and how's their customer service? The 15% military discount is nice and it appears the have a military division as well.

  6. It's uglier than that. They got us (AFRC) slated to pick up the buff schoolhouse mission on the CHEAP, since they won't cough up the full time jobs (yet..haha :salut: ), which is standard for ACC; give the Raptor guys a bl$wjob but cry bloody murder if a buff needs a new brake assembly from the last time we dragged a 12 foot torch down taxiway Alpha 'cause our anti-skid relays were built no sh%t in '62..... mother f%ckers, dang it I digress....

So they'll bleed the 11th to man up the leadership up in minot and min run the conventional thing between posturing in guam and praying to holy Joseph and doggiestyle Mary AFCENT doesn't whine they need us to suck sand at peter puffin deid, which in my biased uneducated opinion is not gonna happen for a slew of reasons that have nothing to do with wide enough real estate down there. So yeah the buffs will remain mighty eight property under SAC part deux and everybody will get asked to it for king and country while we watch cool videos of raptors and light greys pushing it up on the money it would cost to make every Cadillac at barkatraz terminal RNAV GPS legal, RVSM and SELCAL cape, you know like your garden variety C-172 .... and I won't even address on this forum the PRP shennanigans they got in store for the AFRC/AD associations.. brother the plot of Dr. Strangelove got nothing on this sh%t.....10 months ago everybody wanted to stay in the community to avoid ALO/Pred now they're giving up their first born for a U-28 TDY with option to punch, you can't make this stuff up  ....merry Xmas btw

  7. If you want to go CV-22s at some point, why not go for CV-22s now? Pipeline is open. They're dropping at Rucker fairly regularly. Its not the best way to go if you want to fly for the airlines someday, or if you really want to fly C-17s or C-130s, but generally when I hear a guy say "Can I go to _____ later?", I always ask, "Why not now?"

Ya but you'd make a lot more money flying executives around in the commercial V-22. They won't have much experience to choose from when they're looking for guys to fly this thing if it gets certified in 2011. BACC has already received 80 orders for it! At least this one is pressurized!

  8. I think the magic number is 99, once you hit 99 hours w/ or w/out PPL is good! its been about 8 years but I think the hours is what got me my slot!!

If you're talking about the hour break downs for PCSM, 101 would be the magic number in your example. 101-200 is second highest flight hour bracket, next to >201 hrs.

  9. MIL physicals will count towards FAA? AWESOME, I haven't flown GA since IFT since I haven't felt like forking over the cash to get yet another physical. This is great.

Sweet, I was just about to ask that question. Now, aren't you required to fly with your medical certificate in hand? Would that mean that you have to fly with your 10 page FC II folded up in your pocket?

  10. Just crunch the numbers, and come up with a figure of what you can afford, and then look at the houses in that range in Destin, Ft Walton, and Navarre. You will see a VAST difference.

I really wanted to live in Destin too, until I found out it's a shit hole, unless you live in a half a million dollar condo.

If you want to go out, go to Pensacola. It's got more to offer for entertainment, and isn't the asspain destin is with all the tourists.

Rationalize it though. Unless you go out to the bars drinking every night, why go through the pain of living in destin?

Also, everyone says the commute to Navarre is bad, but it's not. 15 miles for me, 20 min in, 30 minutes out, unless there's an accident, and that can/will happen anywhere on 98.

Bahahaha! AJ's is a whole lot better than Seville or anything else Pensacola has to offer.

As far as the original question, it's pretty simple. If you're single and renting, don't live in Navarre. It's a pain driving to Destin and the work commute is frustrating during peak times, especially during the school year. Also, people will not hesitate to pull out in front of you on US-98. Aside from the shear boredom of the road, I wouldn't drive a bike on there either.

You can find some sweet places on the bay or close to the beach in FWB and you'll be a lot closer to work and restaurants. As far as buying opportunities, Navarre is a good one and is going to expand, it's just a matter of when.

  11. Box STS,

Has your area auto gas converted to 10% ethanol blend? I was under the impression that a lot of the United States has converted. If that's the case and I hope it's not, you wouldn't be allowed to run auto gas, even though you have an STC. There's a variety of dangers involved with running fuel with alcohol in it and your insurance would be void if anything happens. Hopefully the course will be reversed, but the federal mandates are screwing a lot of GA pilots right now. Check out this article

    http://www.eaa.org/news/2007/2007-10-18_ethanol.asp

A buddy of mine in South Carolina runs auto gas on his Bonanza and Cub and filled five large tanks at home with the last load of ethanol-free gas. Nice looking airplane, good luck and fly safe!
