What are your all's thoughts on the military publicizing this in wide dispersion? I've heard in scenarios like this the tendency to blame the aircrew is deeply frustrating and hard on families. A report going out to publicly let everyone know their loved ones did everything right has to be somewhat vindicating. As a former C-130 dude myself this is absolutely terrifying. The recreation video reminds me of the wing box failure video on the fire fighting C-130 several years back. So quick and instant, no time to react or do anything to save it.

It's one thing to be an aviator and being able to read reports/see videos after a mishap and then have the ability to learn from it, mourn the loss, and compartmentalize it.  I didn't know anyone on that plane, but I wouldn't want my wife/kids to see that video.

  2. Just got a call. "Man, can you help with with my PRF/ROP. It's late to the group and the Gp/CC wants my PRF now." I told the fellow DO the group exec doesn't know what he is doing. The eligibles don't do their own ROPs. I helped him out of course. I told the DO if the group exec needs any help just to ask. It's obvious the exec is just forwarding emails from the wing exec.
Nothing like a bud having to hammer out a 2 BPZ PRF/ROP on a Sunday during football with the Gp/CC on his ass.

Did you slide down the pole to the bat cave when you got the call?

  3.

There were quite a number of upgrades and other advanced flying training courses turned down in a short time. That plus the Facebook shaming led to quick action.

No doubt about that. But those turned down courses don’t immediately equate to separations. I wasn’t even halfway done with my UPT commitment when I went to IP school. It’s not like those all of those dudes said no to IPQ/PIT/whatever and then immediately punched. No argument that the AF probably lost out on some people due to requal though.

  4. Most change will come with dudes voting with their feet. Just look at the lightning change to the change AFI IRT advanced flying ADSC

There wasn’t enough time between that AFI change breaking and it getting fixed to put more of a dent in the AF’s pilot retention problem. I think that change same about because of the quick backlash on social media.

  5. Let me self correct. I don't view all records this way, just my records. I'm very big picture when dealing with others. However, I understand how the old promotion mindset works. If you understand the system and push against it, then be prepared not to be promoted. After the Gp/CC and WG/CC looks over my ROP and PRF,  I am not going to cry if I receive a "P." They can have that opinion, but I'm a leader that wants to change the system and it starts with all of us here.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but you aren’t changing much of anything if you don’t get promoted.
  6. I suspect your right. Just got my DHQB, and it lists ACSC with no indicator of residence or correspondence.  Of course, it's a false sense of security... The board will still have the training reports from people who went in residence, so it's not that difficult to tell if they are really looking for it.

And even more obvious right there on the DQHB: a line in your duty history.

  7. I was just being matter of fact, no slight.  It will have actual onload capes from what I remember reading, and the AR would be in IFF. Or IFF-Next, whatever we have in 6-9 years.

Corrections from those with real knowledge welcome.

Hopefully someone bothered to look at the feasibility of adding AR requirements to IFF. I hear our tanker force is quite robust with lots of availability on their hands.
