  1. Valid points, and thanks for the info. The warranty alone is something to think about.

They sell Toyota Hilux (is it hiluxi, or hiluxes?) there, which is the same truck, but I'm pretty good at doing the work myself. Hell, I own a Jeep. And if the Taco is a mammoth over there I might think again about going in the first place.

Not to get too personal, but wifey is an RN, and this truck is her primary. I had thought (which is dangerous) about taking the Yota, leaving the TJ here with family and getting something on the economy for to and from work.

Or am I just steering myself into staying CONUS, where I can keep the 4x4's, hunt, and eat BBQ?

  2. Considering putting the UK on the dreamsheet out of the FTU, and I'm having a difficult time finding the regs for importing a vehicle. I've found the UK customs website, but it's going to take some time to decipher that document.

Does anybody have some good techniques or gouge for bringing in a newer vehicle? It's an 07 Tacoma if it matters.

    Cheers

  3. This one's always fun: I carry on a nalgene to have some water to drink and not pay out the ass for the bottles they gouge you on. The TSA goons always say something about it until I point out it's EMPTY and just a piece of plastic. The blank stares are almost worth the price of a ticket.

  4. Yes it is possible. After logging on to AF Portal, click on the link 'Applications A-Z' on the left side about halfway down. Scroll through the applications to find 'Aviation Resource Management System.' You can do two things at this point. Either click the link and you'll be where you want, or click 'Add.' This is will add the link to your 'Workspace.' You can do this with Leaveweb, E-publishing, myPay, vMPF, TSP, etc. Now you only need to remember the password to Portal

I got them added, but the web sites are still asking for logins. Is there a trick I'm missing here?

  5. I've been reading this for a while, and I guess I should chime in.

Back in October, we got a Rubicon SWB automatic. I went with the auto because I wanted a Rubicon, and all I could find was an auto when it was time to pull the trigger. I've driven both autos and manuals offroad, and the auto helps deal with the "3 foot" problem, contrantly trying to modulate the clutch, brakes, and throttle.

Personally, I find it easier to only work 2 pedals. Techinique only. Call me names of you must, I've seen an auto Rubicon (stock) go places that guys with locked lifted manual Jeeps have a very hard time going. Plus the wife doesn't complain.

B/L, get what you want and laugh at the dudes driving XTeras on the trails. I'd rather wheel with a dude in an auto Jeep than someone trying to not hurt a Nissan.

  6. ...I'd like to see them bring back smoking/dipping in the office, and Chief's that bring a keg to work on a Friday night for the troops.

I've been on a in P'cola for training, but this is a no-go? :rainbow:

  7. Just happened to a buddy of mine, PCS'ed from Mildenhall after buying a car through AAFES.

They titled it here in FL and had to pay about 1k in taxes. So they were out that money, but the car was shipped as part of the PCS, so don't think it was a big deal.

Also 2 on the advice to check with Volvo, I've been told the manufacturers wil ship it over for you within a certain perioud of time.

Come on now, don't act like you never drifted off on a 2 stud T-1 hop.

On a serious note, why are you on the t-43, to try and have something to do during EWO? Must be a real change of pace after 86.

  9. That was the impression I got from the AF nav instructor during API. We were issued the E6-B's, but told "not to worry about them, the Navy uses the CR-3, and that's what you'll be taught", so that's why I say CR-3=Navy.

I'm guessing the marines send their navs through the program side by side with the AF guys. Did you all get the CR-3?

Who knows. I like the CR-5 myself.

I think that one's a navy-ism, but I'm not too sure. We were issued small e6-b's when we got down here, but the CR-5 is what we're being taught to use. Funny thing though, we were told specifically not to wear them around our necks.
  11. I've always gone 98, but we came through once on a Friday and Destin was a pain to get through. As far as NASP goes, the gates are open 24 hours. But it you're planning on no suprises, I'd probably go for I-10, you never know when the bridge from Gulf Breeze will be blocked due to a wreck.

If you're staying around here, there are some descent places to eat or grab a beer. Just don't plan on hitting the O Club, it's still TU.

  12. If it helps, a dude just PCS'ed from here to DM and was going into base housing. From what he told me, it was a new townhouse style place. Not sure as to the location, he said it was one of the new privatized ventures it seems they're going to.

  13. This didn't officially come from OTS nor ROTC, but I was at OTS with a PJ commissioning for CRO.

The word seemed to be that a slot straight out of a commissioning source is a very hard thing to get, but the field is undermanned and slots are somewhat easier (a very relative term when talking about these guys) to crosstrain into. I know that Airfield Ops is a good pathway into that area.

Check out www.specialtactics.com for good gouge on the subject. First step would be stop reading the internet and go run/swim/workout.
