  1. I separated from AD over a year ago and am now an AFRC TR.  I haven't touched my Roth TSP since I separated and honestly kind of forgot I had it.  Is there any benefit to me keeping it and picking back up the contributions vs. transferring it to my other Vanguard Roth IRA?  The only benefit to the TSP was the matching portion, but I'd imagine I'd have to be AD for that to happen?

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried if I were at Ramstein, which will be closest to be via a plane ride, but I guess I'll figure it out.  In about 6 months, when I get there, I'll post up some answers to questions I ask in case anyone else runs into a similar situation.

I guess I'm not super worried, I just want to make sure the VA doesn't screw me on disability.  The job has done a number on my body, and not being close to one of those VA counselors that takes a look at your medical info to determine what you need to do is what I will miss.  I highly doubt someone like that exists where I'm going.

Just FYI, you can do 100% of your VA disability stuff up until 1 year after separation and get back pay until your date of separation.  This is what I did and had no issues.

  3. When I was applying to OTS, my recruiter asked what other positions I'd like to put on my application.  My words to him were "you can just put pilot down 3 times".  He responded with "well putting other positions down shows the board that you're willing to do anything to join" and my response was "I'm not joining to be a nav.  If I can't be a pilot, I don't want to be in the AF."  I was selected for my pilot slot a few weeks later.

Bottom line, don't put something down that you are not prepared to be doing for the next 6-9 years.  You'll realize quickly that no one will look out for you but you.

SWA just announced Voluntary Leave with partial pay. Details haven’t been disclosed yet, expecting words later in the week. I am so thankful to be a junior guy with them during a time like this.

    Sarcastic?

I too am a junior guy with SWA and give me this job with the uncertainty over AD any day.  I'd honestly rather go apply at Home Depot and sort hardware than plan an ORI or build a power point for the WG/CC.

My office has a confirmed case of someone who was in the office last week. They still expect us to come in and work business as usual, just because that person is now self quarantined. Ridiculous.

The only thing keeping you from getting called for the interview might be felonies and drugs, but there are still plenty of ways to f up the interview, and not giving it the proper respect is the first way.

I'm not saying walk in there in flip flops with a cigarette in your mouth because you're guaranteed a job, but it's going to take a lot for us mil types to really fuck it up to not get a CJO from somebody.  I personally don't know a single mil guy/gal that hasn't gotten a single CJO because they fucked up the interview, but of course anything is possible once the door is closed and it's just you and the company suits.

I believe you will accrue leave while on terminal leave as well, so you’ll accrue 5 days in Oct/Nov. Also I believe you should be eligible for 20 days of job hunting PTDY

I'm all for sticking it to the man, but I don't think I could ask for 21 days PTDY leading up to a 106 day block of leave with a straight face.  My CC would probably get a good kick out of it too.

  8. Something is not adding up.  BACN usually hangs out in the bozosphere, way out of the reach of any RPG, SA-7, or rock that the Taliban can throw at it.  Also, this is not the wreckage of a plane that slammed down from thousands of feet in the air.  The fuselage is largely intact, and it almost looks like the fire started from inside given the burn patterns.

    Thread bump.

Just attended this course as an O-5 staff MAJCOM Stan/Eval guy. Excellent course, excellent staff, went above and beyond.

I’ll put the plug out there that if you are flying FTIP reviewed procedures to really double check the TERPS / MAJCOM A3 review.

There are a lot of assumptions on both sides of the table but the BL is you are the PIC and it’s your ass.

Just because it is signed doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Depends how good of a deal the approach is to.

  10. I highly recommend Cockpit to Cockpit.  It serves as a great checklist when you're starting to get your apps together and prep for interviews.

Milkeep was worth its weight in gold.  I went the Excel route originally, but inputting 3000 hours line by line pushed me to my breaking point.  Best $200 I've ever spent.

Well it looks like she did a tour at the 1 FW mostly pre-9-11 so not much going on there, and then went on to PACAF and then a TBird tour and then her only other operational assignment was at Kunsan as the OSS/CC

Copy.  Almost zero combat credibility.  I don't want to paint with a broad brush, but those types always seem to not get it.
