Even if it were taught in schools, unfortunately I still believe a majority of Americans are too lazy or apathetic to pay respect to the symbols of our nation. If you want my feelings on this, just go back to the Josh Howard thread I started when that fuckstick was running his mouth during the playing of our national anthem. Even with the new law, I feel odd saluting in civilian clothes; so I stick with what I know best...stand at attention with my hand over my heart. However, I have been tempted to slap the living shit out of people when I see them jawing aroiund or playing grabass during the national anthem. The main problem is that the freedoms that the citizens of this great country enjoy come too easy for the vast majority of them. Those of us who have supported and defended them, and who actually lose some of those same freedoms while doing so, understand how important they really are; and how to respect the symbols of those freedoms. On a side note, it is always good to see our old pal Linda posting! Hope all is well, my friend! Cheers! M2

I would expect something like a Tweet flying off into the sunset...with 1957-2009 across the bottom. Yeah, I know, it's a bit corny; but send the old girl off with a little style and class! She deserves it! Cheers! M2

Exactly, which is why this is such a ridiculous proposal in the first place. There is no strategic value in 13 or 130 Marines as compared to a well-placed TLAM on the right target, and the development costs only would draw momey away from more critical programs. Someone needs to put the comic books down and wake up to the reality, the US military needs a helluva lot more things than BS like this and floating ideas like this into the press only gives more fodder to those who think defense spending is already outrageous! Cheers! M2

Ace Just personal preference. For one, I consider my .357 Colt is a family heirloom, something I will pass on to my sons one day. These days it is kept in a display case. Secondly, I don't doubt is a great firearm, I have shot it on numerous occassions and love it (the .357 round kicks ass!); but the capacity of my XD (13+1) over the six it holds is another selling point. Lastly, the XD is significantly slimmer and easy to draw from an IWB holster. I would prefer to carry the revolver in an external holster on my hip, which isn't allowed in Texas as it isn't an open carry state. Again, this is just my logic behind it, I am not saying that a revolver is bad carry weapon or unreliable, I just find a semi-auto to be a better solution for concealed carry. And I also have a small .38 revolver that I do sometimes carry under certain circumstances, like when I am going someplace where I would have to leave it in the car. It was my Dad's old "throw away" gun and whereas I would hate to lose it if it were stolen or something, it would pain me less than if I lost my XD, the .357 or one of my M1911s... Cheers! M2

Berg If it's good enough to win WWII, it's good enough for self-defense! I have a .357 Magnum revolver, a 1954 pre-Python Colt that was my Dad's. It is a great gun to shoot, but I would never carry a revolver for self-defense, and .357 semi-autos are hard to find (Springfield ceased production of the XD357 a while back). I was already a .45 fan, but this FBI report is what convinced me to stick with .45 JHPs instead of cheaper 9mm. Sure, shot placement is the most important factor; but as the aforementioned report says, all things being equal the second most important factor is caliber size. In other words, bigger is better. Smaller, faster rounds like the 9mm not only make a narrower path through the target, they have less of a chance of hitting a vital organ. Larger, slower rounds like the .45 have a better chance even though the bullet size isn't substantially larger than a 9mm (see the comparison chart earlier in this thread). But the fact that the larger round will tumble and expand (if a JHP), the larger caliber greatly increases the potential for striking a vital organ. Considering the fact that my XD carries 13+1 rounds of .45 JHP, that is more than sufficient for most situations. Yes, .45 ammo is more expensive than 9mm; but in my opinion (and the FBI's), it is the most effective round. Plus, the best semi-auto out there, John Moses Browning's M1911, was designed around it. The 10mm, like a .44 Magnum, is a powerful round but not a practical one; the .45ACP is about the largest usable round for concealed carry and self-defense in a pistol. It is why the M1911A1 is still being used by some US units who actually need an effective firearm...and I am not talking about the sky cops! Anything larger than that, and it's time to grab the shotgun! Cheers! M2

Why do you even need HOT EAGLE? Just increase the range of this by a few thousand miles... Errrr...and improve the accuracy a tad! Come up with some dorky wings, a bag and a leather jacket for the "operators," and people will flock to sign up! Cheers! M2

Actually, it was. Another one titled 'Pistol and Rifle Advice' took off, so I just merged the old 'Handguns used by USAF/ Military pilots' into it. Cheers! M2

BF Yep, that's true; but HydraShoks are still a damn decent SD/HD round! The 230 grain has a proven track record in the .45, and where there may be some better rounds out there, I stick with what I know works in my pistols! I also have some Aguila 117gr "High Power" Fragmenting Hollow Points that I want to try out; but I wouldn't trust them for SD/HD as I think they are more a novelty round and not as reliable as other HPs. Plus, Centurian Ordnance, the company that imports them into the States, is literally less than a mile away from my house. That said, I think the next SD/HD rounds I am going to try are the Speer Gold Dots. Have heard good things about them, and would like to see how they do. If you have any other suggestions, I am always open to hear them. Cheers! M2

If it is at a deployed location and he deserves it, it should be a Bronze Star and not a MSM. But a BS/MSM for six months is gonna be a tough sell, unless the guy has some real, no-shit combat time under his belt. No bullshit here, I'm talking direct engagement here... As for guidance in writing it up, you want AFI 36-2803, and supplements for it can be found here. I will see if I can score a template from the admin folks here, PM me your .MIL email address and I will shoot it to you that way. Cheers! M2

Listen to RabidWombat, as you should consider yourself extremely lucky that this thread took a life of its own and most people forgot the fucking idiotic beginning to it! It is the only reason it hasn't been deleted (and trust me, it came very close to going away). The bottom line is that nobody's gives a rat's ass about your situation. As a matter of fact, your broadcasting your stats is indicative that mommy and/or daddy didn't give you enough attention as a child. Go look at the other threads in this forum. Do you see a trend? People care about flying, big tits, and guns; not about your flabby ass struggling to run a simple mile-and-a-half. Which begs the question...were you born a fat, slimy, scumbag puke piece o' shit, Private Pyle, or did you have to work on it? Now choke yourself.

Jorry S&W MP15A...nice! If Bud's needs to send it someplace before you get back, feel free to give them my address. I'll make sure it's broken in nicely when you get here! And the Mossberg Persuaders can still be found ~$300-350 at most gun shows here; but if your intent is to let the wife use it for self-defense, don't ever let her shoot it beforehand. That sucker is a real modern-day blunderbuss, it kicks like a mule but with the right set-up I think it is the perfect close-quarters home defense weapon there is! Load it up with some 3" Magnum 00-buck and smile if the bad guy thinks he can hide behind your leather couch for protection! Hell, I would shoot through walls with that sucker without hesitation if someone were hiding behind one! But put 30-50 rounds through one at the range and I guarantee you will be bruised up pretty bad! Cheers! M2

What?!? I saw nothing but pure sincerity and honestly in your post! Are you proclaiming that it was sabotaged?!? Who would stoop so low? Cheers! M2

You are absolutely correct, I simplified my response for brevity but I should have noted that. Cheers! M2

The 5.56 NATO is derived from, but not entirely interchangeable with, the .223 Remington cartridge...military cases are generally made from thicker brass than commercial cases and the NATO specification allows a higher chamber pressure. Using commercial .223 cartridges in a 5.56-chambered rifle should work reliably, but generally will not be as accurate as when fired from a .223-chambered gun. 7.62 is plentiful as the AK is the most commonly-built assault rifle in the world. Its numbers far exceed those of the AR; and with a few exceptions, it is not used by US military forces... Cheers! M2

Jorry If you are talking assault rifles, as I mentioned I just picked up 1000 rounds of Monarch (Russian-made) 7.62x39 for $149.50. That is an exceptionally sweet deal, and tough to beat even at the gun shows As for .45ACP, believe it or not WalMart has been the best source. I get 100 rounds of Winchester White Box for $29. I only use it for range ammo, prefering Federal HydraShok HPs for self-defense, but all my .45s eat it like candy. Never had a problem with any loading or ejecting, but it is a little dirty. And you probably already know this, but for the rest of the crowd never, ever buy reloads from someone you don't know. My Canadian bud did so at a local gun show, and had all kinds of problems with them. Either reload yourself, or find someone you can trust and go back to if there are any problems. As for buying a gun before coming back, if you get it through a dealer I am sure they won't have a problem holding it for a few months for you, especially if you paid in advance for it. Or if you know where you are going, maybe the FFL you send it to will do the same for a nominal fee (if any). A straw purchase really only comes into play when the second recipient of the gun is not eligible to own it in the first place, like the two punks at Columbine. The problem with the aforementioned California bud is that he normally could not buy a weapon in another state and take it back to a state where he couldn't buy it in the first place. I don't think any of that applies in your case, so if the situation was you were PCS'ing to San Antonio, and wanted an AK-47; I could purchase one for you and then sell it to you when you arrived here, as you would be legally able to buy one yourself under Texas law. But next week when I go TDY to Charleston, where I could not buy a weapon because I am not a S.C. resident; I could not have someone who lives there buy it then turn around and sell it to me. The solution would be to have it sent to a FFL back here in Texas. Of course, private sales are different; but to avoid any problems I would stay within the confines of the laws for business sales of weapons when outside of my own home state. You do know that Arsenal, probably one of the best US-made AK-47s builders out there, is in Las Vegas, right? Cheers! M2

And I have heard the same from firsthand sources. Plus, there is no reason whatsoever for the sky cops to not allow a person to put a lock on their own gun. Absolutely none! As a matter of fact, it should be required that people have their own locks on their guns before they put them in the armory. C'mon, even TSA requires you to keep your weapon locked while transporting it in your luggage. The only reason the fucking cops don't want you to lock it is because they want to shoot it! Fuck them! If anyone is in the San Antonio area and runs up against this, I will be more than happy to store your weapons at my house. Of course, you also won't be able to put a lock on them when I am holding them for you; but at least you know they were in the hands of a competent shooter! The weapons I see the sky cops carrying where I work look like shit! I wouldn't even accept one if it were issued to me. Hell, I have a tough enough time keeping the retired Marine Gunny I work with from ripping their heads off when he sees how bad their weapons look. It is embarassing... Cheers! M2
-
And I wonder what their BS logic is behind that rule?!? I would rather pay for storage somewhere than to let the ham-fisted sky cops mess with any of my guns! And yes, I used to be one, so I know of what I speak! Cheers! M2

B*D*A Thanks, that's very kind of you to say so! Cheers! M2

Ya mean one of these? Looking for a Russian mail-order bride? Just kidding, of course. I haven't seen one but I haven't been looking either. If you haven't already, ou might want to try: Robarm at https://www.robarm.com/, Email: zdf@robarm.com, Phone: 801-485-1012 And if you order one through them, mention AK-47.net. I think that'll get you a discount. Or try looking here. Good luck! Cheers! M2

Yeah, I got a helluva deal on mine. I had an Army bud heading to Iraq who asked me to "gun sit"his while he was gone. It was a pristine example with beautiful furniture on it, and very accurate (I had shot it before). Here are a couple of pics... When he got back, he wanted to buy an old M1911 so once he found one, I gave him cash for it. That had been my plan from the onsete, figuring out a way to separate him from this beautiful AKM... Cheers! M2

That's a Century International Arms-imported Zastava M70AB2 (automatska puška model 70B) Yugo with the underfold stock and grenade launcher capability (sights, I also have the grenade launcher attachment as well). I got it at a local gun show and I still see 'em for ~$500. I highly recommend a Yugo, they are built on the 1.6mm receiver over the standard 1.0mm of the standard Kalashnikov, which makes it a bit more accurate. It does not have a chrome lined bore, but that hasn't been a problem with any of the from what I've read and experienced. Another nice thing about the Yugos is that they hold the bolt open after the last shot has been fired (but you have to use Yugo mags for that to work). It also has an elongated upper handguard over the standard AK, which provides better protection for the gas tube. If you go for a Century, make sure the front sight isn't canted. Many are (to include mine), and I had to send it back to them to correct. Otherwise, it is one helluva shooter! And the bayonet is a modern AK-74 Bulgarian, it fits on AKMs as well. I have a traditional AK bayonet on my Norinco Type 56 AKM. Cheers! M2

BigFreddie Good info, and I agree with you; but my AKs are not my firstline self-defense weapons. My Mossberg Persuader has a 120-lumen SureFire 6P and laser sight on it, and is loaded with 3" magnum 00-buckshot. It is what I would grab first if I heard someone breaking into the house, messing with the car, campaigning for Obama, etc... And again you are correct on the state residency thing. Heck, our Canadian liaison officer here in San Antonio was recently able to purchase a Para PDA despite it not being legal to own in his home country. He had to go through a little paperwork, but he got it done relatively easily. But Texas is a far cry from Kommifornia. Honestly, I don't think Kommifornia has the ability to reach out and touch dc58, and I don't think there is any interstate issue; but his buddy is taking a big risk and if the state wanted to press the issue through the Fed, he may get some unwanted heat as well. Like I said, I would avoid it myself. Honestly, why risk it? Cheers! M2
-
I thought the same thing at first, but a strawman purchase is one where this arrangement is made at the time of the sale of the weapon. In other words, dc58 bought the gun knowingly to sell it to his bud in Kommifornia. However, as that was not the case, technically it isn't a strawman purchase. However, depending on the time he has had the AR, it could still give the impression that this was his intent; and that is one perception I would steer far away from, as both would be charged with it: According to Federal law: Now I believe that addresses a business sale where the two individuals do not know each other previously (thus requiring an FFL); but for a private sale is a different animal. However, there are state requirements and you may want to read this over before even considering it (warning: that document is from an anti-gun organization; but the information appears to be legitimately researched and the anti-gun bias doesn't start until the end of it). I would also strongly recommend contacting a lawyer who specializes in gun laws in your state, and your bud does in the same in Kommifornia. But, the bottom line is there is a potential for much trouble in doing this. You may be able to legally make the transfer, but he could get in trouble bringing the weapon into the gun-unfriendly state of Kommifornia and that someone could be linked back to you as it was an interstate arms transfer and your name is tied to the weapon. Personally, I would steer clear of it; but if you want to risk getting sent to Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass prison , then go for it! And remember that any felony conviction means you most likely will never be able to legally possess a weapon again! Cheers! M2

I don't have any rails on my AKs, that's just my preference but if I were to put any on, siderails would be the way I'd go. I am not big into hanging a lot of stuff off of my rifles (shotguns are a different story), so my AKs are near stock. About all I've done was swap some sights out on my Yugo, and outside of that besides cycling ammo through them, the only thing I've really done was bought accessories (slings, bayonets, grenade launchers, etc). I agree with busdriver, if the Demos win next month expect the Clinton AWB to return. Mr Change has already expressed his intent to invoke it, and the Democratic majority will gladly support it. Get your grandfathered weapons today, as well as ammo; as after next month I expect the prices to rocket! And I don't expect that to be limited to assault rifles; so mappleby, go get that XD ASAP! Cheers! M2

Nineline Academy has the PT1911 for $579.99. I'm not sure if that is a great price, but it looks to be a good one. They have stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina. Tennessee and of course, Texas: And for you guys looking for ARs, they also have two on sale... Cheers! M2
