  1. Nope. As I recall, a certain former CSAF who was a former Thunderbird loved rocking out the V-neck so much that he made everyone were them.

They should allow crew necks along with V-necks. We mix and match all of our other uniforms, why not the Blues uniform...I laugh whenever I see a picture of some major event on base and there are 3 or more combinations of uniforms.

  2. I don't get this "blues on monday" sh*& at all...how is it that everyone on this site (obviously including all different ranks) can agree that this is a horrible idea and yet this is still a policy. Maybe someone of higher ranking than myself can answer this but at what stage in the rank game do people start making decisions like this??? And can ANYONE explain how blues on monday is a good idea? What could possibly have been a good reason for this??..or perhaps a reason at all...anyone? Also I hear rumors of fighter pilots / fighter pilot bases just saying f*#$ it and not wearing blues on mondays at all...is this true...because if it is I wonder why heavy bases can't jump on board.

I'm sure the memo from the CSAF that made blues on monday mandatory is floating around somewhere. As far as different MAJCOM's wearing versus not wearing, a lot has to do with the way the schedules work. At heavy bases, you either know you're going to fly on monday (and therefore wear a flight suit) or you're not. For the most part, we don't show up with crew rest met if we aren't scheduled to fly. At fighter bases, that isn't always the case (at least the bases I'm familiar with (friends and family)). Depending on the scheduler, fighter types could be thrown into a sortie the same day it flies.

  3. Anyone ever had to drop a class past the add/drop date that was paid for with TA?

My orders were bumped up for IFF and now I need to drop my masters class before I start. The school is telling me that if do, the AF will not be reimbursed for my TA…which means I’ll have to pay the AF back the money.

Is there any TA exception for getting orders and having to drop a class? I checked AFI 36-2306 and didn’t find anything there.

I had to drop a class late into a semester a couple years ago. I appealed directly to the Bursar of the school for reimbursement (which was approved). AF got their money back.

  4. I'm sure most Herk guys have some resentment for the gucci C-17's simply from the QOL. When the Herk guys are doing 6-stoppers in the box and its 120 on the ground, 140 in the plane because the A/C doesn't work below 10k in the E-models (with service ceilings below transition altitudes!) and the plane you're flying flew combat missions in Vietnam....its easy to get the "we fly REAL missions" mentality simply because some parts of it suck alot more.

That moment came for me when I realized the C-17's had working A/C on the ground.

Last rote our tactics guys kept trying to do buddy rides with the C-17's and vice versa, but the leadership was WAY against the idea. I thought it'd be cool if we got to see the other side for a day.

I know many of us have done 5 stoppers in the AOR...and the A/C does work most of the time (except in sand storms...)

  5. Not to be too much of a shoe clerk but check out his salute. Aren't you supposed to touch the edge of your glasses if you are wearing them and not the middle of your forehead?

You mean it should look something like the Army General standing next to him...

  6. Anyone know what the actual rules are for going to UPT with a Q3 on your record? Is in nothing bad in the FEF for the past two years or does it not matter if it's just one or what?

Last time I looked into it, it's no more than 1 Q3 in the last 3 years (or 2 Q2's).

If your buddy is in AMC, it's not a big deal..as long as it doesn't become a habit; no trends. The joke at the of the squadrons I have been in is there are those that have (a Q3) and those that will.

  7. Is this actually for real? The last time this rumor kicked up I checked the then posted scott website and it just showed fuel by MDS, saw no listing of AC names (I'm not quite curious enough to drive in to work to check it).

Has someone seen with their own eyes this sort of list?

This is for real. When you go to the site, you'll see MDS listed. Click on your airframe of choice, it'll break it down to the different Wings. Click on your Wing of choice, it'll break it down to Squadron. Click on our your Squadron of choice and it'll show it broken down by AC name. Click on the AC name and it will break it down to each mission.

The system is kind of slow in updating however. My name still shows up with my old squadron before I PCS'd (even for missions that I have flown with the new squadron).

  8. Not exactly. Rumor mill says they are tracking landing fuel by Aircraft commander at KSUU. Thats bullshit if its the case. Someone is going to make a poor fuel decision to save face and end up landing with 4K like 'he whose name we shall not speak' did at McChord a couple of years ago. If it is justified, then so be it. If you gather that type of data to see who is a better fuel planner and can land with exactly 16K at home, then its retarded.

    Chuck,

This is NOT KSUU specific! AMC is doing this command wide. Via a .mil computer go to:

    https://tacc.scott.af.mil/?action=FUEL_EFF

As far as the other stuff you mentioned, I have some stories for you! But they'll have to wait for a more private medium.

  9. Chuck,

I missed the news report - what's up at KSUU?

This is how rumors get started! You know in 1 week there are going to be 6 - 9 threads from UPT studs about how KSUU is messed up. I'd bet Chuck was referring to KSUU because we belong to AMC (and TACC) where PAED is a PACAF asset that provides some jets and crews to TACC.

  10. Again I have no problem with common-sense fuel conservation, but anything more and you need to get the hell outta my cockpit. If I was at Travis right now Id kill myself.

    Whats your beef again Boom?

    Chuck

    It's not that bad Chuck!

  11. On the AMC side, it's not so much about whether or not we fly faster or slower (the speed isn't really that much different); it's about carrying extra fuel = weight. Landing with 50 or 60K of fuel (unless you need to for some other reason) because TACC screwed up the fuel input during the IFM process and then not defueling prior to launch costs a lot of money no matter how fast you fly.

Example; on a recent mission, the IFM packet said I was supposed to carry 135K of fuel. After getting to the jet and running the numbers, we only needed 95K. We ran the numbers both ways and it was going to burn an extra 7K to carry the extra 40K...that's waste.

  12. Anyone else getting constantly bitched at about it?

Saw some slides today from AMC and it looked like the C-17 bubbas were landing with 20K+ regularly :bash:

Yes, we do. Our minimum fuel to plan to land with is 16K. But that 16K normally isn't enough to cover other fuel reserve requirements so most of the time we land with between 20 and 30k.

  13. Here is what SWA thinks about "other" time:

    Flight Experience:

2,500 hours total or 1,500 hours TURBINE total. Additionally, a minimum of 1,000 hours in Turbine aircraft as the Pilot in command3, as defined below is required. Southwest considers only Pilot time in fixed wing aircraft. This specifically excludes simulator, helicopter, WSO, RIO, FE, NAV, EWO etc. NO other time is counted. Time logged, as "Other Time" will not be considered.

This "Other" time discussion is interesting. So for guys that fly in crew aircraft that routinely have more Pilots than required, the "Total" time we log is actually worthless.

Air Force Jets Collide, but Crews Safe

SHUQUALAK, Miss. — Two Air Force jets collided Wednesday during training flights over eastern Mississippi and crashed, but all four crew members ejected safely, an Air Force spokesman said.

The T-6 Texan 2 primary trainers collided around midday and crashed near a Columbus Air Force Base auxiliary airfield in Shuqualak, a wooded area about 10 miles from the Alabama line, said 2nd Lt. Craig Rasley, a base spokesman.

Air Force investigators are probing the cause of the crash, Rasley said.

  15. At any rate, one thing to remember is that TSP also tracks your tax free contributions. Those months that you hit a combat zone tax exclusions are totaled separately, as is everything that compounds off it. Tax free forever.

I've noticed that TSP tracks my tax free contributions, but my understanding is that everything compounded off of those contributions is still only tax-deferred.

I say that because the TSP website says: "You receive no direct tax benefit from contributing pay to the TSP which has been excluded from gross income; however, the earnings on those contributions are tax-deferred."

Full text can be found here: http://www.tsp.gov/uniserv/features/chapter03.html

It would be awesome if I were wrong because as is the case with most of the AMC guys here, I have a pretty good tax-exempt amount in my TSP.

  16. Alrighty, now we're rolling on this post! Somebody just made a list of fighter-pilot foreign exchange opportunities. Nice work.

Now, who's in-the-know to post a list of cargo/ tanker/ Herc exchange jobs?? They're out there-- but I hear you just gotta be on the phone with someone at AFPC at the exact moment they realize one's coming open....

I know there's stuff in Australia, Canada, etc etc. What else? And, please, some expert give us the details and how the hell the wording on a "T-ODP" needs to be to get one!!

For the most recent C-17 exchange assignments, the exchange pilots came from Altus (FTU instructors) and were by name requested by the host nation (since that is where the host nation received their initial trailing, it makes since!)

  17. I know a T prefix is instructor, Q prefix is an Evaluator. What's a K prefix? And does anybody have a link that breaks down the components of an AFSC and/or an AFSC list? I've looked through AFPC, but I get "Access Denied" to the FAQs subjects that seem relevant.

MPF has completely jacked up my information in the past six months (unbelievable, I know). My OPR data, overseas data, tour dates, and AFSC info are all wrong. I know the AFSC is incorrect, but I need to find out what it should be.

Also, if you transition to a different model of the same airframe, should your duty AFSC change?

Normally I'd ask MPF, but they've already proved themselves incompetent.

The prefix 'K' also means instructor...at least in AMC...I figured it was the same across all commands? --- Actually, after reading through some of the explanations, it looks like the prefix could be different based on command.

    Try this link http://www.e-publishing.af.mil/shared/medi.../afi36-2101.pdf

The table that breaks down Officer AFSCs starts on page 74.

    --------

Edit: Try the link below. It actually has a list of what each prefix is for. (T = formal training instructor; K = instructor)

  18. Does anyone out there have a KSUU update like the previous update on PAED?

Specifically, I've heard rumors that KSUU might get a limited Airdrop mission...

    Peace!

We will not be getting a "limited" airdrop mission anytime soon....at the last meeting where it was discussed, it was mentioned that it would be 3 to 5 years at best, if ever.
