  1. Of all the navs and other cross-flow guys at UPT, it took them a good 3-4 years to get selected. The AF isn't going to send you to Nav school to turn around and then send you to UPT after you finish your FTU and move to your operational squadron. Most everyone I talk with said they work their butts off to be the best at their job their first assignment and then applied. Everyone that is a cross-flow from other career fields are junior Captains, so I would say you have a little while before you have a chance.

  2. I don't think it takes Benjamin Franklin to realize that it's a pretty FUBAR situation over there.

I never said it wasn't but again what is "liking" a status or posting the video going to do? The man has but a couple hundred soldiers now and has been in hiding for 6 years, and from several articles I read they have less than a stellar reputation on the ground in Uganda. Mainly because they work and support the Ungandan and Sudanese Armies which are guilty of the exact same crimes as Kony.

  3. "Since the planes went back in the air, the Air Force has reported another nine incidents of pilots experiencing the "hypoxia-like" symptoms -- leading to a handful of one-day "pauses" in operations at various bases."

Why has this not been news? It looks like to me the AF is trying to justify it's new expensive jet (not that I have anything against it) and trying to sweep things under the rug. IMHO it looks like another accident waiting to happen.

  4. What do you think the guitar player's job is?

This is the actual AF band playing in this song not TIB. This is one of the parts of AF band known as "Max Impact". I recognized the black MSgt. from when they played on the national mall for the 4th of July last year.

  5. I don't know where else this could belong, besides the flight discipline thread (but I think I'll let that one RIP). I had never heard of this incident, probably the older (respectfully) pilots here are familiar with it.

Admiral nominee rose through ranks despite ‘illogical act’:

When Lt. j.g. Timothy W. Dorsey intentionally fired his fighter jet’s missile at an Air Force reconnaissance plane, nearly killing its two aviators and destroying the aircraft during a training exercise, it was hard to imagine then how his Navy career would wind up 25 years later.

  6. I can try. The belt reflects light. Your flight suit does not. The same reason they make the rabbit out of lights, not flight suits.

Touche, my point was if you are looking for contrast a white belt on a white background (esp. when vis. is abt. 10 ft.) seems pretty pointless compared to a 6 foot person in a dark green flight suit.

  7. Got told yesterday that on foggy days, SF has requested that we wear reflective belts while crossing streets or parking lots. However, the standard issue reflective belt we all got was white, can someone please explain how wearing a white reflective belt with white fog will make me more visible than my dark green flight suit? :bash:

  8. He will get a medal and an OPR bullet that will allow him to promote BTZ

Most likely, because it makes his superior look good, and said officer will take the idea from this Flt/CC and implement it within the other flights under his command too. :banghead:

  9. When I asked why, he told me that his flight's minimum was an 85 and that this score would likely result in an LOC.

As a new LT, I try not to be cynical about what the AF has become, especially having listened to my father (retired enlisted) talk about the AF during the Cold War. Yeah there were idiots back them but I never heard of anything even close to some of the retards I hear about on here.

Also last time I checked 75 was passing, I really hope the Flt/CC gets crushed by his superior for this stupidity.

  10. In terms of time, I was DNIF for exactly 3 months after having LASIK, however this could have been cut down to 1 month if medical wouldn't have ######-footed around with my paperwork.

Holy crap, Brooks wouldn't see me for my FC1 for one year after my Lasik operation. I guess I'll throw this into the pot of inconsistencies in the air force.

  11. I'm more than game. Please, prove me wrong on the bet. Let me know what the class is and I'll even have the Chief Pilot validate the success/failure.

    Good Luck!

    Smokey

I think you're safe Smokey, I thought my class would do alright since we had a ton of older guys or cross-overs from other parts of big blue, but alas still took almost a week. Miles, it doesn't matter if you know it all it takes is one person to screw it up and you are done, and if you honestly think that all 100 or so (120 in my class), can get that thing right; you have more faith in humanity than I do.

Sounds good however, i've heard about previous classes so i wouldnt be surprised if my class did the same once we got there but it would be awesome if we did get it right the first day.

Wow, talk about a quick turn around.

Yep was a helmet fire trying to figure out how the AF worked let alone pilot training, oh and I got back from IFS and they bumped me up two UPT classes. Looking back now, I don't regret it, I'll (Lord willing) be winging in 7 months, and on with my career as a 2nd Lt. with one year in versus some other guys in my class who will be 1st Lts/almost Capts.

  12. So, what I've said to her amounts to "We can do it, but I can't guarantee I'll be at the birth, I absolutely will not be getting up in the middle of the night during the week, which means I won't be able to sleep in the same room as you either. You're effectively going to be a single mother, except during weekends." Better than having a kid while deployed, but still not ideal.

I'm just finishing up Phase 2 at Vance, there are several guys in my class that have kids, and while it is a struggle for them at times they manage just fine. One of the guy's wife had a baby about 3 months ago, he kept the Flt/CC advised and when she went into labor he was cleared off and took 3-4 days off to get everything situated and jumped right back in no problems. The IPs are usually (at least in my flight) pretty understanding. It helped that almost half of our IPs wives are also pregnant.

Awesome, so I'm definitely leaving behind my 1800 YD gun.

Anything else worth knowing about bringing? Even stupid stuff?

The armory here at Vance is full. Find a buddy who lives in base housing or off base to store your guns at. My house is the armory for my class, you just have to register the weapons and let SF know where they are being stored. As for bringing other stuff, make yourself comfortable, you'll be here for a year and busy, so you don't want to need something and not have it. The dorms have a decent little kitchen, so bring cooking stuff, will help with convience since most resturaunts or fast food is 10 minutes off base minimum.

If you got any questions about Vance specifics shoot me a PM.
