  2. Our group shop has 4 pilots (1 Maj & 3 Capt) and 1 SNCO. Up until this recent batch of that just took over most were pigeons, couldn’t get them out of the office to fly a local let alone a mission. Saw a few come scrambling down because HARM threatened shut off their flight pay because they’d gone three months without touching a jet.

    Yeah, I respect said dude that made the post, but’s he’s off the mark there. Telling LTs about the AF screwing up RIFs, VSPs, promotions, squadron manning (I.e MAF crew ratio reduction) isn’t poisoning the well is valuable education albeit mostly negative. However, there’s an easy solution for this, if the Air Force doesn’t like us passing on the screw ups to the younger generations, stop fucking screwing up on a perpetual basis!

    Most states have a rule that personnel returning from out of state (due to PCS or deployment) typically have a 30 day grace period to renew their tags before they are actually considered expired. Not helpful now but for future reference when dealing with the SF at the gate.

    Its more than just Airman a year out of BMT. Talked with a buddy who is in cyber and the airman he deals with on a daily basis is well let's just say special (in every possible meaning of that word).

So far I like what I see out of Chief Wright, he's seems to be bringing common sense back to the enlisted force which, for all I thought the Officer side was jacked up, it didn't hold a candle to the stupidity on the enlisted side. Wright should just automatically reverse any decision Cody made because there's a 99% it was probably a horrible decision.

  8. Got a chance to talk to an AFPC rep who helps run the promotion boards and was involved in the recent O-4 board. Key takeaways were this is a 100% promotion opportunity not a 100% promotion rate (Duck you may still be in luck). The difference this year is instead of rating the package on a 6-10 scale then making a cut based on the rack and stack, the option was simply a yes or no to promote the person. If you got a yes, you are 100% getting promoted not waiting to see how you fell in the overall rankings and make the cut.

    I was thinking about that as I perused this thread during my morning constitutional and it honestly sounds better than just staying in the same spot.

    I think it’s less to do with moving than it is where they were moving from and to.

    I’m not sure if he ever did, but his point was that the IP qualification is not something one just keeps because they made it through IPUG. If you aren’t meeting the expectations of the IP crew qual (not just managing to avoid getting Q3’d), he would not give you that authority and responsibility. I have a hard time saying I disagree with it, but as you pointed out there are multiple ways to skin the cat.

  12. Like I said I didn’t agree with everything this OG did and he could definitely be caustic at times, but he set his expectations clearly ahead of time as well as the consequences too. He also rarely punished en mass it was targeted specifically at people who fucked up. He also had very high expectations of his IP corps. From one IP to another, if you habitually fucked up grade sheets, TMS reports, currency paperwork I would agree you probably shouldn’t be an IP. You are the example and if you can’t do it then it’s time to find better examples. Also if you understood that the OG needed the paperwork so he could use the Go/No-go process to gather data on things like Ops tempo effects on training, crew compositions, required waivers etc, you understand why it was important to him. He fought many battles against 18AF/AMC that the crew force never knew about. I was in your shoes too until my commander sat some of the IPs down and peeled back the curtain. This guy isn’t a saint but he enabled a lot of good at McChord, as for his actions at Dyess I got nothing.

    Under the new wing leadership our Sq leadership has had to fight many battles..they have to pick and chose which ones are worth fighting.  I’m guessing a day wasted is not a battle worth fighting, but still worthy sport b*tching about!

    That’s a shame, your wing king used to be our OG and worked to keep things mission focused. Didn’t always agree with the ways he approached things but he held a high bar in expectations and regularly fought 18AF & AMC BS.

    Then they go to Phase 3.

     

    According to the slides it will save 17k sorties per year and shorten UPT by ~6 weeks (3 of that occurring in T-6's).  Also, they are getting rid of teaching students EP patterns.  Basically if the kid has an engine problem they want him to fly home normally, and if it gets bad just eject.  So ya...

    So what happens when said 38 track studs suck at aero & advanced form? Are we just going to send him anyways, re-track, wash out?

    ETA: I’m talking about the extra rides in the T-6 post track just so there’s no confusion.

    This is correct. We structure our crew with an AC, an Experienced Copilot (>400 hrs & 6 mo CMR), and a junior Copilot. Both guys in the previously mentioned story had crossed an ocean less than 4 times between them with about the same number of missions. Leaving those two guys in the seat while you sleep during an ocean crossing is a bad idea. Mainly because anything that happens (reroutes, procedure changes etc) they don't have experience or knowledge to make those decisions which means they'll have to wake up the AC. An experienced copilot can handle 90% of those things on their own. Franky I wouldn't trust them anyways to even go to the bunk in the first place. There's qualified and then there's proficient.
