I think we need the general capability for things like a kinetic NEO in some 3rd world shithole.

Totally agree! Nothing says non-combatant evacuation operations like AGR-20s coming off the rails of the AC-17 Globe-Swatter before swooping in to pick up a bunch of TCNs.

I kid, but I have to poke fun at our institutional overuse of the word kinetic.

Where do you find the different NDAA versions?

I may be reading it wrong, but the version of the NDAA 2023 that pops up on Congress' page looks like it shows increases of Flight pay to $1,500 max and Pilot Bonus to $75,000 per year max. Not Sure if this is an old committee version or what, so the $50K Bonus may be accurate, just the first time I recall seeing that.

Here's the verbiage from Congress' website (Aviation portions in BOLD and amends the monthly Flight Pay and Bonus sections of pertinent law):

SEC. 612. INCREASE TO MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF CERTAIN BONUS AND SPECIAL PAY
                  AUTHORITIES.

        (a) General Bonus Authority for Enlisted Members.--Section
331(c)(1) of title 37, United States Code, is amended--
                (1) in subparagraph (A), by striking ``$50,000'' and
            inserting ``$75,000''; and
                (2) in subparagraph (B), by striking ``$30,000'' and
            inserting ``$50,000''.
        (b) Special Bonus and Incentive Pay Authorities for Nuclear
Officers.--Section 333(d)(1)(A) of title 37, United States Code, is
amended by striking ``$50,000'' and inserting ``$75,000''.
        (c) Special Aviation Incentive Pay and Bonus Authorities for
Officers.--Section 334(c)(1) of title 37, United States Code, is
    amended--
                (1) in subparagraph (A), by striking ``$1,000'' and
            inserting ``$1,500''; and
                (2) in subparagraph (B), by striking ``$35,000'' and
            inserting ``$75,000''.
        (d) Skill Incentive Pay or Proficiency Bonus.--Section 353(c)(1)(A)
of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking ``$1,000'' and
    inserting ``$1,750''.

Love the non pilot Navy Admiral talking about an Air Force bomber, really tied it all together.

Ya, the US really screwed the pooch on that one. I guess they forgot to consider the B-21 public unveiling event when appointing the 2nd highest ranking military official late last year. Rookie move.

  4. I have about as much SA on the B-21 program as the average Joe. That said, I found the reveal to be quite anticlimactic. I’m sure it was an extremely important day for the folks working on this thing, and those involved are probably quite proud this evening. Here is to hoping that it lives up to all of the chest-thumping narration we heard tonight.

I didn’t fully clarify my statement. There were a ton of humble, willing to teach FAIPs there. They certainly outnumbered the minority I called out earlier. At the same time, though, that place was one of the weirdest installations and most toxic environments I have ever observed. I have never seen a more wrongfully entitled, borderline affluenza-like afflicted group of lieutenants in my life. You’d think these dudes flew night 1 of Desert Storm based on their attitudes and outward disdain to their future flight leads.

Then again, I’m preaching to the choir. Thank you for your service.

Did you train any prior Navs or enlisted aviators during upt?

I’m betting be was never a UPT IP. Or if he was, definitely a Laughlin FAIP. Some of the biggest douchers with chips on their shoulders were to be found there.

  7. I think 18X to 11X makes perfect sense, and it is definitely a program that should exist beyond just a trial run. I disagree regarding ADSC. Maybe not a full 10 year penalty, but there has to be something.

  8. Serious question…are all white people the same? If so, I understand the argument for selectively recruiting non-whites. Last I checked, though, we all have our own DIVERSE life experiences prior to service. If there are illegitimate barriers to entry into military service, we should get rid of them. Arbitrarily discriminating based on race or gender (yes, I went there…there’s only 2 and it was assigned way prior to birth) is bullshit. Saying that all white people are the same is just as much bullshit.

If the data is true, I don’t find the graphic surprising. It makes sense, to me, that the most vulnerable individuals would do everything possible to mitigate their risk of death. The unfortunate reality is that the vaccines are marginally effective and the chance of infection remains high.

To piggyback on ViperMan, nuance is great and all, but some things are self evident, no nuance required:

    - The American political system is better than Russia’s. Despite all our flaws, I’ll take a representative democracy over Putin’s kleptocracy every time.

    - The liberal world order (again, I’ll remind the less educated amongst us that “liberal” does not refer to US domestic politics here) established after WWII is better than an alternative where strong countries simply take what they want. The “establishment” that Putin and his apologists like to rail against has kept the peace for seven decades. Some of us have become so accustomed to that peace that it’s become hard to believe that it’s not just the de facto state of the world. It’s not. It takes a lot of work.

    - Invading a sovereign nation, no matter what cultural and ethnic ties you think you have, is wrong. That’s it. No need for discussion (or nuance). Respect for sovereignty is a key to peace in the modern world. It should be defended vigorously by anyone who doesn’t want to see the planet flattened by war.

I could go on. Point being, there’s no gray area to hang out in here. No we aren’t perfect. Yes, we have our problems, some of them major. Despite all of that, we are objectively better than the alternative, regardless of which party is in power, regardless of our internal differences. Objectively. Better. Full stop. I choose to support OUR institutions, flawed though they may be, because it’s a far better option than operating in the wilderness of thought where the Russian and Chinese fact twisters want us. There are forces in this world that are true existential threats to our way of life. They are NOT your neighbor with the coexist bumper sticker (naive as he may be) or the Trump flag on his truck. They are not even Nancy Pelosi (who I guarantee you is FAR more of a free market advocate than Putin or Xi), or Mitch McConnell. It continuously blows my mind that some of us continue to point fingers at each other when there is no shit, painfully obvious evil rearing it’s head in the world with despots outright stating their desire to destroy western cultural values. It’s time to recognize what’s right in front of our faces, put our differences aside for a bit, and start pulling in the same direction.

And what the fuck does this diatribe on pro-American democracy have to do with blowing a pipeline?

How is it some of you still cannot distinguish between a criticism of an entire country and a tiny portion of it's leadership? That's a bad question, because I know you can, and you are intentionally being disingenuous by conflating the two. It's similar to how real propaganda actually works.

If someone were to be "amplifying" Russian propaganda, then Russia would have been the originator of said propaganda. After reading your post, I honestly went looking for Russia's claims the the US had sabotaged the pipeline. I found two things:

    - A Russian official said that any claim they had sabotaged their own pipeline was "stupid".

    - Russia asked Biden to clarify who actually destroyed the Nordstream 2.

Maybe you can find something more propagandaish.

Aside from my initial sarcasm, my other posts regarding this topic were just factual reports by Western media. Put them side by side, and it doesn't take any logical gymnastics to form a reasonable hypothesis that maybe it wasn't Russia.

Do you honestly think what we're experiencing is "great international tension" and not a war? What did we just spend another $12 Billion United States Dollars on yet again today? Diplomacy?

Consider that I, and others, are giving you a mere hypothesis substantiated with factual information from Western sources, but yet you're not able to provide anything other than effectively crossing your arms, shaking your head, and saying "Nuh-uhh, you just hate your country."

I’m not sure why you’re catching flak. On record, POTUS says we will end NS2 if Russia invades Ukraine with tanks and troops. Russia invaded, and the pipeline is now inoperative. Why are people implying that the US is incapable of following up on that threat? Furthermore, why are people saying torqued is buying Russian propaganda? Was Biden deep-faked in that press conference?

Your apology is accepted. As a measure of good faith and to demonstrate your resolve, we will need you to hand over (post) all of your heritage material to remind us how we have evolved from crass killers to what we are today…whatever that is.

To any future aviators reading this,  when you become an adult, don't bang children.  It's not as cool as Wooderson (Dazed and Confused) makes it out to be.

I’m not vouching for the accused, and I believe there is a special place in hell for child molesters…but what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? This dude certainly looks guilty, but the allegations have yet to be substantiated.
