  1. I appreciate it. As long as they have local sorties I'll be fine. You mentioned likely no flights on Monday and Friday, why is that?
  2. I know this may sound naive, but my only experience with C-130 is with Marine Corps KC-130 squadrons in which for the most part the only local area training sortie are aerial refueling sorties. Seeing as guard C-130's generally don't have that mission if you aren't going on trips are there local flights to be had? The reason I ask is that I'm considering squadron that has the potential to become a C-130 squadron in the future and I'm trying to understand whether I could make that transition and still being employed in my civilian job. If the only option is 4-5 day trips I may struggle. Thanks
  3. I'm working this for a USMC purchase, and yesterday she told me not to expect anything until the summer. That being said I'll let you guys know if anything changes
  4. As always I appreciate the complete answer. It helps me understand a little bit of the big blue bureaucracy.
  5. This may be more or a procedural question than an medical question, but it has a couple of facets. Background: I'm a 34 year current and qualified USMC tactical jet aviator with no USN waivers. I have 20/17 vision and am currently in a flying status. I'm in the process of ending my current contract and switching to either the an AFRC unit or an ANG unit. I've been offered a job with an AFRC unit, so they are running my flight physical up through AFRC(as far as I understand it). When I completed my flight physical the optometrist identified that I demonstrate a topographical pattern suggestive of keratoconus in one eye. Considering that I'm already a "trained" aviator they ran and to my understanding have approved a waiver. They did the Marfans screening, ect. Let's assume the waiver is approved through AFRC, and I am offered a job with a Guard Unit(the job I really want). Will the Guard Bureau accept my flight physical without any further consideration or will I have to go through all of this again? The reason I ask is that the Navy/Marine transition to the blue side is a paperwork nightmare that takes almost a year. If I have to go through all of this again with the ANG I might just stick with AFRC because the time to transition might be tight. I appreciate the help
  6. I know I'm the most recent person to ask this question, but does anyone have the current rep's POC? Thanks
  7. I appreciate it. It seems like the rep changes every six months.
  8. I'm trying to start an X-33 buy for my squadron. Can anyone who has dealt with them lately please send me the Omega rep's contact info? Thanks
  9. Harriers are in the same boat that hornets are. I'm sure the KC-10 guys that fly CORONETs with us are familiar with the ridiculous routes we need to fly to get across the pond
  10. Buddy Spike- That's exactly what I was looking for. Gent's I appreciate the time. I just wanted to make sure that I could break down my existing quals into something that made sense for the Guard. I know I'm not the first Marine they've transitioned but it never hurts to start with some corporate knowledge. I'm still a couple of years out until the end of my current obligation, but the only fighter/attack squadron I've really started talking to is the 107th FS in Michigan.
  11. "X's" are just the nomenclature for initial training sorties. We make a significant distinction between different levels of instructors while it sounds like "IP" for the Air Force is a jack of all trades. As a section leader(2-ship) you can teach certain initial sorties, as a Weapons and Tactics Officer you can teach others, as a Night Systems Instructor you can teach others, ect. The flight after your section lead checkride can be you conducting initial training. It's just a different mentality in which we let guys teach earlier. Thanks
  12. I'm rushing Guard/Reserve units and I'm trying to decipher the difference between USAF and USMC quals without having to ask too many dumb questions in person. Specifically I'm interested in what exactly an IP can do that a 2/4 ship lead can't in the A-10/F-16 communities. Is it just the ability to give initial X's, or can your flight leads give X's? Also I've never seen anyone's bio that lists Instrument or Annual(we call it NATOPS) instructor. Are those stand alone quals or is that rolled into IP? Thanks
  13. I just met a guy this week from a hornet squadron FUNGUS (F**K U NEW GUY U SUCK), he apparently wasn't very good at life
  14. Does anyone have a decent POC at 169th FW at McEntire? I can find is the CO's number, and I'd like to start a little lower.
  15. Tunes can you email me the POC at omega. Thanks
  16. I'm trying to set this up for a buy for my unit but I'm having trouble getting a decent POC email. Can someone send the POC you are using
  17. The XC is the plan for East Coast units. The harrier doesn't quite have the legs to make it out to Idaho unless we're on det and usually we det to the southwest(Yuma, El Centro, ect). Plus I'm currently at KAF so I'm going to go give some lectures to the guys on deployment here. That being said we used to have a lot of avionics that, in my opinion made out suite better than yours but now that you are using the link and gen 4 I'm just jealous.
  18. Barney and Rainman I appreciate the input. In all honesty I was trying to feel out if the squadron CO would be appropriate. I've not problem trying to sell myself if I can be my foot in the door, with the right person. I just took a job teaching at our FRS for a little downtime but my intent is to start the rush this time next year. With all honesty we are thinking about trying to gets back to the pacific northwest so i may be trying to get to know he Boise A-10 drivers. I've det'd ou of Mt Home before an the ranges up there are great. Barney Who was the harrier driver you picked, we are a small family.
  19. Yeah that makes a little more sense. As much as no one wants to admit it the OpsO is usually the defacto center of the universe in most TacAir Marine units. I appreciate the help.
  20. Gents- I'm hoping this is the right venue. I'm currently a qualified AV-8B Marine aviator with multiple tours and multiple combat deployments looking at the end of my contract. The reason I bring this up is that there are a lot more rumors our there in my world then fact on how to make the gold to silver transitions. I've read the gold to silver transition package, but my primary question is if I'm looking at at guard/reserve unit who is the best person to talk to regarding the possibility of job. It seems that even when a job is advertised on USAJOBS or wherever the POC is still a MSGT or basic recruitor, not someone that actually knows about the position. I'm sure the "right person" to talk to might be different at different units, but a little guidance would be helpful.
