Seems like everybody hates him, but why?

Is there any conflict or interest or reason why the AF would give you trouble for owning your own company while going through training? I will be a tanker Reservist and will be leaving my civilian engineering job to go through the AF training pipeline. My goal is to set myself up as a part time engineering consultant for hire (have no desire to work for a big engineering company anymore). I'd like to get my company licensed and incorporated right before going to OTS, so it has a couple years for the name brand to mature and all that. I may or may not be pulling in small amounts of money from it during that time and I will be putting minimal to no work into it during training but I'd still like to have it set up for various reasons. Will this get me in trouble or is it somehow illegal to have this going while being on orders during training?

Cool - my recruiter and sponsoring squadron said May 27 as well and we got it submitted a day early, but nobody knew details on the rest of the process. Thanks for the heads up!

What day exactly is the June AFRC board and how long does it take for results to come out? Also, where can you find the results of the board?

I'm not sure on the details, but normally as part of the FC1 they issue you the FAA 1st class medical I think, so if you already have that then it is less work for them. I'm not sure exactly what extra work they do for the 1st class, other than you put it on your FC1 application paperwork, and that they told me "you already have your 1st class so you're good to go". That's kind of strange though because my 1st class was quick and easy at my local airport whereas the FC1 is pretty invasive, so I'm sure what benefit the 1st class is to them. Also I highly doubt that you can just show up like that. FC1 physicals tend to be booked up about 1 or 2 months or more into the future so you really have to work with a recruiter to get it set up and scheduled in the future. It is a lot of paperwork and coordination to make it happen. Also, when you show up, the nurses have a package with all your paperwork prepared, so that's something that definitely takes them some lead time to get ready.

It's good to have the FAA 1st Class Medical, because it will let you get through the AF FC1 faster. Me and 1 other guy had the FAA 1st class and were released Tuesday at like 10 AM, whereas everyone else had to stay for the rest of Tuesday and maybe into Wednesday.

Is there a glitch in the matrix?

This seems like a fairly unique situation and different than mine. I got an ETP per 36-2205 so I am kind of familiar with that process now. Do you already have OTS and UPT dates?

Just a word of caution, if you get an interview there is a good chance they will ask why you didn't attend the social. Good luck but just be prepared for a question like that. Source: It has happened to me.

I'm guessing you are new to this. I recently got sponsored and what I've learned that there are mountains of paperwork and multiple layers of people within the organization to deal with to get an application pushed through. Not all of it seems to make sense but that is the process. If you have a bad GPA I would be more worried about getting a sponsoring unit than worrying about the board, and if that doesn't work apply to the unsponsored board.

I'm a civilian with only a PPL and was offered an interview there a few years ago so I assume that is still the case. I ended up going a different route though.

Yes, one of my colleagues got hired to fly B-52's recently off the street. I tried myself as well though without success - seems like a tough community to break in to.

I'm going to chime in one last time on this thread and hopefully offer words of encouragement. I was in a situation requiring an ETP that many people told me was unworkable. I pushed forward and found a way to get selected through a Reserve unit. I'm not sure if your situation still salvageable, but my recruiter's belief is that anybody can make it through as long as they only have one thing going against them. By the way the Guard and Reserve use the same FC1 process.

My understanding is that you can't apply for an ETP through an unsponsored board, although a unit I interviewed with once but was not hired by encouraged me to give it a shot anyway. The challenge with it is that you need somebody to write a letter for you and needs the support of several high ups including a two-star general and you probably can't pull that off without a unit's help. Why not get selected by a squadron and have them help you out with the ETP? You're 25 which is very young, you have time to make that work.

I did my FC1 a couple weeks ago, showed up Monday, was done by lunch time Tuesday. Was very straight forward. PM me if you have any specific questions and I'll let you know. Civilian going Reserve.

Can you provide more detail on how this works? I will be in a similar situation - wife living in a house that we own and working in that city, while I'll be at UPT full time about 2 hrs away.

When I did my FC1 recently 10 of the candidates (including Guard) were going RPA and told me they were going straight to one of three URT schoolhouses.

I'm a newbie so take what I say with a grain of salt. My understanding is that the max age for a non-flying officer position is 35, however I remember seeing an e-mail from my recruiter last year encouraging them to keep processing applications for general officers up to age 40. Don't know how many, if any, of the candidates in that age group got selected but it should be reassuring that at least they were keeping that door open. Also I got selected for a UPT slot at age 31 after many people told me it could not be done. So if you really want to make this happen don't give up on it. Just make sure you have your personal affairs sorted out because I doubt anybody will care about your finances or family situation.

Yep I'll be Reserve. My primary residence is actually a couple hours from UPT so ideally I can just chill out at home between different phases of training. For those that remain on orders and at a UPT base, what do they do?
