  1. From the latest newsletter:"Last year, these issues were addressed by the council and ranked as highly important to CGOs: Uniform changes" Uniform changes in USAF = Texas weather: you don't like it, wait five minutes and it will change.
  2. spaceman: total agree. CGI just kills flying films for me, but it seems like that's all we get these days. I'll have to check out "Sky Fighters"; I actually saw a bargain DVD copy of "Sky Fighters" at an Italian truck stop of all places. My idea of aerial footage: (soundtrack = no comment) VCQ
  3. Yes, obviously the Koreans have taken a few, uh, artistic liberties here. My other question is...why is the Korean title "Return to Base," but the English version is "Soar Into the Sun?" Does that imply that the majority of Korean civilians already know what rtb means? (Although with Korea's mandatory military service, maybe they already do...)
  4. Zing.... Hey Toro, reminds me of your thread on the "I thought this was pirate training" UPT patch: http://www.flyingsqu...-class-patches/ Believe me, I spent many hours trying to get my dozens of JASDF Ego drivers to enunciate their Ls correctly...there were lots of running jokes about pirates.
  5. Yeah, a lot of wasted potential there. I didn't find any of them particularly funny.
  6. I just discovered the trailer for the Korean film R2B (English title "Soar Into the Sun") on the Aviationist. It looks like pure cheese, and it's drawing the inevitable comparisons to Top Gun: http://www.latimes.c...,0,303239.story And speaking of "Top Gun," has anybody seen the 1990 Japanese Top Gun knockoff "Best Guy?" My JASDF buddies were telling me about it; apparently JASDF F-15s were heavily involved in the filming. It tanked at the Japanese box office.
  7. Glad to hear that the Viper driver is OK and thanks/ありがとうございますto my JSDF colleagues who pitched in for the rescue (I worked with 200+ JSDF troops last year, mostly pilots but some search and rescue squadrons as well).
  8. I recently joined WAI for the networking opportunities as well as the scholarships (you have to be a current member to apply); I would like to start working on a second master's in aeronautical science through Embry-Riddle after I knock out Squadron Officer School. Not many aviation enthusiasts where I'm currently at, so I'd love to be able to talk shop and connect. I will look into the Ninety-Nines. Just to clear up any confusion: I was stationed in Japan last year working with JASDF Herk and Eagle drivers to prepare them for Cope North Guam and Red Flag Alaska (I'm USAF, not JASDF). I'd PCS back to Japan in a heartbeat (I may have a shot a couple of years down the road...)...beautiful country and culture. I still keep in touch with many of my JASDF pilots on FB. VCQ
  9. I was stationed at Komaki AB (Aichi prefecture outside of Nagoya) last year when the earthquake / tsunami hit; even though we were hours away from the epicenter, we definitely felt the earthquake and were joking about it at first until we turned on the TV...then nobody was laughing. Most of my JASDF colleagues from 401TAW were recalled immediately to fly search and rescue missions; others from 303/306TFS at Komatsu were also periodically recalled to help with the cleanup at Matsushima AB and in Tohoku. Truly sobering times.
  10. I find myself watching this every few days for a laugh. What gems would you add to "Sh!t Fighter Pilots Don't Say??"
  11. I would really like to get a local chapter of Women in Aviation International up and running in San Antonio (the only other WAI chapters in TX are in Dallas and Houston). To do so, we would need at least 10 WAI members in the greater SA area. Also, does anyone know of any other aviation-related websites where I'll have a chance of reaching potential members in the SA area? Thanks, VCQ
