  1. Call me an @ss, but I'm so glad the entitled Fighter era is coming to a close (at least for now). Let the butt hurting commence.

  2. AFSOC already advertises a self-CSAR capability, but then pencil-whips the actual training needed to conduct the mission well. Everyone just sees it as a series of tactical events our assets already accomplish without training for the bigger picture. Without a doctrinal shift and a large attitude change, the HCs will be doing MC missions within a week of arriving in command, and HH-60s will be helping out the CV-22s from their current crushing ops tempo. More meat for the grinder. And if you want funding in AFSOC you would need to start telling people you do ISR or strike. We put freakin lasers on planes people...not CSAR!

  3. I think you definitely have a chance. Apply to all the units you'd see yourself working out of. My numbers were way lower than yours and I got hired by a C17 unit off the street at 28.5 years old. Pilot 78, pcsm 57, PPL with 85 flight hours. LOR from a Warrant officer, 1 retired LT Col at a Guard unit, and my PPL CFI. Just keep applying and you'll be the next lucky one. Just apply to all you can. I think I applied to like 15 units and only one responded with an interview. Good luck!

  4. Agreed, your scores are more than good enough to not be the thing that doesn't get you hired, if that makes sense. Interview well, hang out with the squadron for a bit and be cool, and emphasize that your PPL will be done very shortly, and you'll do fine. People are getting interviewed by heavy squadrons with zero flight hours, so don't sweat it, really.

  5. Wow! Our stuff looks pretty similar! I also had to switch from a low wing cherokee to a high wing cessna 172 after about 35 hrs in. I would keep chugging along on the lessons. If your interviewing for a reserve unit, show that you can have the PPL done prior to the reserve board if the unit was to pick you up. But... I'm new to this too so hopefully some wise gray beards will chime in.

  6. Absolutely. A decent aftermarket trigger group, individual trigger springs, lighter buffer tube/recoil springs, etc. This article nails it: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2017/10/daniel-zimmerman/reader-weve-painted-corner-bump-fire-regulation-gun-control/ TLDR: If the ATF is charged with following the letter of the law, the law means nothing since the only means of mechanically increasing the rate of fire is to decrease the time required for the gas to cycle the bolt. That's obviously not the intent. If the ATF follows the intent of the law, the law is insanely broad; it doesn't mention bump-fire stocks by name, and opens the door to all manner of stupid regulations. GOP: grow a goddamn spine, half a brain, and stop pandering to the left/emotional hysteria with useless/bullshit/unconstitutional laws that have zero effect on an evil person's ability to be evil.

  7. Ackc-congrats dude. That is awesome. We had a former infrantry officer in one of my f-16 ANG units (he had sf and ranger tabs too) and it was cool.
