After UPT, what stuff do you keep and what stuff do you have to return?

If going on to a fighter, do you keep the helmet/mask?

I went on to tones and they let me keep everything but the harness. My buddy that went 38s, they just gave him a combat edge mask instead of the green POS he used in texans.

The only thing I didn't get to take with me to RTU was my parachute

You'll take your helmet and mask with you to IFF and on the FTU, but you may have to get a new one fitted with combat edge (if it isn't issued in T-38s...wasn't in my day).

So if you go Tones you still keep the helmet and mask?

Here is a question for ya. I went through Whiting where they made me give my helmet back. Im just finishing Tones here at Vance where we dont need a helmet. BUT, I was reading the Little Rock website and it says I need my own helmet or I have to deal with using a loaner everytime I need one. Do you think it possible that I could get issued one here at Vance since I never was issued one in the first place?

I was a T-1 guy (go figure) and I still have that retarded helmet.

In fact, my son used it for Halloween last year.

They will issue you a new helmet at LRF when you get there, you will need it for all the NVG stuff you’ll be doing, so don't worry about getting one at Vance. I didn't need one when I went thru CIQ, but I took it anyway (never say no when supply is giving you stuff for free) and just gave it to our life support shop when I got back home.

Cool. That helps. Seems the equipment people here at Vance are kind of Nazi's anyways. You practically have to give em one of your nuts to get a new pair of flight gloves.

Don't count on getting equipment at Little Rock unless you are coming from Corpus. Your LOSING unit will need to provide a fund cite and permission to use it for you to get issued equipment here. I convinced my gaining unit to send me the stuff from Hurlburt supply. In other words, to prevent a major pain in the ass like I had, get a list of stuff and get it issued while you are at UPT. There was little chance that my C-21 squadron in Germany was going to buy me $2500 worth of stuff considering I wasn't coming back. Get it before you get here!

Talk to the registrar here at the rock. They have the exact list with the serial numbers. The civilian number is 501-987-6044. Ask them to fax it to you.

would it be a good idea to get everybody in your class to sign your helmet before you all go your own ways? seems like a good upt souvineer

I think Navy and Air Force helmets are different? -- that's probably why you had to give yours back after Whiting. They told us when we fitted for them that we'd be using the same helmet when we "got to the fleet". In otherwords, not us AF guys.
