SMX Airshow 2024 (Southern California)

Central Coast AirFest in Santa Maria CA is this weekend, 21-22 Sept.

It's right by Vandenburg SFB, and the best warbird airshow in the nation.  

Two of the only 5 De Havilland Mosquitos will be flying in formation... the first time that has happened since 1987.  

The F7F Tigercat just cancelled but the flying lineup includes:  P-38, F8F, SBD Dauntless, TBM Avenger, P-40, lots of Mustangs, B-25, MiG-15, Yak-3, P-63, Sea Fury, the only P-47 Razorback that files... 

Also, F-18 Demo Team.  And the A-10 Demo Team in their 3rd to last airshow before the team is disbanded (thanks a lot, Frank Kendall).

Parents visiting for the weekend so highly unlikely I’ll make it up there.  Add Jason Somes’ MiG-17 as well.  And the EA-18 demo is LOUD…amazed me just how much so at OSH.

So there I was, cooking dinner for the kids tonight in the Santa Maria area when the sound of multiple radials starts droning overhead.

I ran out the room and onto the porch like a kid trying to catch Santa. My dog was righteously concerned; the kids just ignored me. 

If, in the long shot, you were in the mixed four-ship on a midfield at/about 5:35 local, thanks for the show appetizer. 

Happy SMX 2025, to those who celebrate. Now excuse me while I try to find my good camera; too many good things happening for the cell phone treatment.

Friday practice runs noon-1830 with gaps. 
Sat/Sun: 1100-1440. 
F-35A and F-18F demo got canx'd due to shutdown. 
It's still a great show though.
