I am currently a reservist awaiting UPT and the 340th has sent a bunch of us to SERE prior. This must be fairly new.
Since we’re on the topic of SERE, I’m coming from the AD USMC to an ANG unit and have already gone through SERE with the Navy, does anyone know if that satisfies the USAFs requirement? Or will it have to go to USAF SERE too?

No ETP for neither Age or TFCS? Where did you hear this from?

Hey all,
Attached is a snipping tool of the AFMAN 36-2100 talking about age and TFCS eligibility requirements. I just want to confirm that the way the AFMAN reads, for Guard units as long as you are younger than 33 when the individual unit announces their hiring results you will not need an age ETP? Got hired by a Guard fighter unit a few months ago and wanted to confirm the age requirements. Thanks.

If you have a PPL or greater you will not go to IFT. Otherwise it is still required.
Is there a currency requirement for skipping IFT with a PPL or greater? I’ve seen in various places that your last flight had to be within 5 years. Is that true or as long as you have it are you good?

For those with experience being an older applicant or hiring a finalist needing an age waiver-
I'm seeing 3 types of age limits on UPT postings:
1. 33 (some listing 30)
2. 33- Age Waivers case by case
3. 33- No Age Waivers
For squadrons that listed 1 or 2, do you think it's worth it to fly out to their meet and greet or is it a hard rule? What if I was invited even though I'm over the age limit, should I say something?
The reason I ask is because a squadron I interviewed with last year said they'll interview me for 2023 board and if chosen they'll push the paperwork for an age waiver. I remember last year they listed an age limit (I applied when I was below the age limit) which got me wondering how strict is the age limit?
Also, should I be up front and list it on my resume and mention it at meet and greets? My mentor who is in a heavy squadron told me to NEVER mention it on my resume and if they want to find out my age they will figure it out. I had a bad experience doing this, I was chosen to interview for a slot and when they asked my age, I saw a few jaws dropped and they all scribbled furiously notes and I knew immediately I was out of consideration because of it.
TIA
Agree with the first two replies to this. I’m on the older end as well and was recently hired by a guard fighter unit. What I’ll add is to check out the AFMAN 36-2100. It very clearly explains the age limit and the ETP process. Getting gouge from unit hiring sites is good but going to the source can provide more clarity.
Understanding the policy and the reference that the policy is found in does two things, first it helps you speak intelligently in an interview to how your age can be an asset and it also shows units that you’ve done your homework and are willing to put in the work to help the unit with the ETP to the max extent you can.

Aight last question:
Is the PPL license I have really that much more competitive? Should I continue towards IFR ratings or just stop there if I'm interested in the military if I don't want the civilian flying to interfere with military training?
I keep hearing that it's a "whole person concept" that the Pilot Selection Process is trying to determine out of you. However, the recent scores below kind of sound like the Air Force is really cherry picking their pilot candidates from the best Ivy league schools (and understandably so if I'm hearing that everyone and their mother is trying to get into the AF).
This kind of question is reserved for the "What are my chances Forum" but I haven't taken the AFOQT yet so I might not be able determine the veracity of responses there.
So, how "whole person" is the selection in your opinion? For example, my GPA is 3.15 in Bachelor of Arts. Compared to the 92T0 Average GPA of 3.71... Just trying to get an idea of whether I need to shape up my resume more or not
Short answer: Getting your instrument might make you “stand out” a bit more
Longer answer: While the “whole person” concept is a thing, keep in mind, the chart that you keep referencing is just a chart, it’s statistics and averages. Focus on what you can control (Test scores, letters of rec, aviation or personal experience) and let go of the things you can’t (Slots available, timing, needs of the AF).
Granted I’m coming from the Marine fighter community however being a good or great tactical aviator takes more than just test scores, GPA, college major or where you went to school. Some of the best pilots I know have non-ivy league, non-STEM backgrounds that worked hard and had grit and passion for tactical aviation.

Was discussing on another forum about my chances of going the pilot Reserves route because I'm somewhat hesitant of going Active Duty and not getting a pilot slot (Needs of the Airforce). Was trying to get some feedback on what the general feel of the training pipeline, acceptance, etc. was like. Instead I got a bunch of "If you're afraid of the needs of the AF going Active Duty then you shouldn't even commission". "It's about being an Officer first, not being a pilot." "Reserves isn't here just to get you hours/ratings."
Like damn, just trying to gauge the feel of getting a pilot slot thru reserves v AD because1.) I love flying
2.) I'm interested in serving my country
3.) Reserves is marketed as the only place to actually get sponsored for a pilot slot, so why not go that route first?
I know Reserves isn't just for hours/ratings
I know before anything you're an Officer first and not your MOS in the military
Am I in the right headspace if I'm reluctant of the Needs of the Air Force?
Another thing to consider if you’re that concerned about getting a “guaranteed” flight slot is the Marine Corps. It’s not the typical path people think of but they do give out “guaranteed” flight contracts prior to joining.
Just food for thought. DM me if you’re interested in that.

got feedback from 115/176 TLDR - PCSM 80s/90s to be competitive

19 hours ago, foxen said:I agree, no that wasn't the easy cut unless they weren't fully honest? Idk.
Only thing I left out was flying hours. But basically they said they had to elevate the minimums to weed out applicants to make interview selection.
So it sounds to me like scores come first but whole person concept comes second. Only other tidbit was that if I had flight hours/a more competitive pcsm I'd be a very competitive candidate so at least I know what to work on and at least these are things I and all of you can impact for the most part (which is good).
No ties to Wisconsin whatsoever, total rando. Hardly any ties to ang/afrc as a whole.

First recommendation would be to do Bogidope applicaiton/interview prep or review apps of those who have interviewed/selectees.
With the 115th, there last boards trends had some who were hired without PPL and low hours (40s) and higher was around 140. PCSM and AFOQT in your range, with no rush or ties to the area.
They definitely look to hire from within first, but getting an interview is possible with what you presented. Keep on applying.

Yeah I mean they were saying 80s 90s to be competitive.
I am 80s afoqt pilot score but I'm 50s on the pcsm (probably from never having touched a stick/rudder).

pcsm-97 pilot-98, cso-89, abm-99, aa-74 ver-67 quant-80
From the feedback I received from the 176FS, they were filling a “wash out” slot and needed someone right away.
Obviously this is all subject to change, but sounds like they’ll have another board (open to civilian and military) late next year.
As for test scores, obviously work to maximize your scores but I wouldn’t get wrapped around the axle with numbers and scores. As we’ve seen from the last 176th board, they hire for a variety of reasons so every board is different and what/who they’re looking for is different every time. Keep applying and pressing on.

Makes me feel a little better, I haven't been contacted to setup a time yet as well, I was starting to get nervous and didn't want to bother them in case they were just busy.
Yeah, some insight from a guy in the squadron, each board member has about 25ish candidates to go through and call so I think they’re just making their way down a list.

Did anyone who got selected for the 159th phone interview ever get a follow up to schedule a time?
Yes, got emailed last Friday to setup a time. My interviewer told me to expect hearing back about in-person interviews around Aug 10th. The new timeline for the board is Sept 10-11th. Of course, all of this is subject to change.

Looks like the 159th FS sent out phone interview invites and TBNT messages. Good luck to those who got phone interviews and for those that got TBNT keep pressing forward.

I’ll add another no to the list from the 115th!
Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile appDid they give a reason why it’s restricted to current military members? Are they trying to limit applicants?

Just a head's up: It looks like the 175th FS will be having the Zoom interviews be via video submission instead, with a few prescribed prompts/questions for us to answer; we should find out on July 15th if we've been selected for submission of said video.
Best of luck to all of you; hopefully we can all get some good news next week!
EDIT: Fighter SQUADRON, not Fighting WING, my sincerest apologies for any confusion there guys, and edited to correct!
First time poster,
Has anyone heard from the 175th FS if they got selected to send them a video yet?

One other thing I would add is, if you’ve only been at it for a year and a half. Don’t lose hope, a lot of guys have been rushing and applying to unit for well over 2-3 years. This is a exercise of perseverance. It took me about 1.5-2 years to get hired. If this is something you truly want to do keep at it and keep rushing units and showing face (like others in this thread have mentioned)
