  1. Alright, the standards are still nice and high. I figured it would get competitive with the airline furloughs. I'll have to work my hardest to make up for that. Thank you for the up to date info.
  2. Thankfully for me I was way within that vision standard. I was at least close enough for the Navy to think I would pass. Thank you for also clarifying on the time it would take for me to be qualified for the FC1, I thought it was 6 months but I appreciate the clarification.
  3. Back before 2020, when I was still in college, I was actively pursuing the ANG. After I graduated, I pursued the Active Duty Navy due to an atrocious job market, got accepted, and even attended OCS in July of this year. However I DOR'd after the flight doc said my vision was slightly out of regs and disqualified me from SNA. I was also recommended to come back. I have already gotten LASIK on 02SEP2022 and have 20/15 vision, but it will be a long time until I have the opportunity to return to OCS for an SNA slot. In the meantime, I would absolutely love to at least take another shake at the ANG. Age: 25 AFOQT: Pilot 89 Navigator 77 Academic Aptitude 94 Verbal 96 Quantitative 82 (I can probably take this again and improve in some areas especially Nav) PCSM: 54 (but in reality probably higher, this is with 16 flight hours and was under the old scoring system I now have 86. I also only took the TBAS once years ago and believe I can perform much better round 2) GPA: 3.2 in Mechanical Engineering Tail Wheel endorsement. If there is any more info needed let me know.

  5. Thank you, that was the impression I got as well. With the PCSM, do you mean it has to be 85+ for 201+ hours? Or do I actually have to get it up to that level with flight time?

  8. This is honestly a pretty simple question, however a lot of stuff I've heard on this topic doesn't seem to be credible to me. Are ANG pilots eligible to attend TPS, and if they are how much of an uphill battle is it? Of all the test pilots I know, all of them did it through the AD (however I have a skewed sample of astronauts living right in Clear Lake within Houston).   10. whew Nellie, when contrasted with more than 125 grand, 6 thousand sounds like chump change. Although I think I found a way based on some old stocks I have that I can afford it through clever budgeting, I just have to be careful.
  11. I probably could, fair point. Although it's also likely the flight school will be closed.
  12. This is interesting to me, a friend of mine in med school and I (an engineering student) saw this research and may look into making some gear to mitigate these risks. I don't want to post all the details on the internet, but this is something that probably will be addressed in the near future.
  13. Yeah since I will probably be working a 9-5 M-F internship. So I can spend my Saturdays and Sundays flying!

  16. I know I enjoy flying since I got a ride in an old T-6 Texan and loved ever minute of it! That is very solid advice for sure though.
  17. there is one place near my house that would cost approximately $6500 to get a license. However, I have real questions about the quality of maintenance performed on their planes.

I am currently a college student and I want to get a private pilots license before trying for a pilot slot with the ANG (since it will speed up the training process, and increase my likelihood of selection). However, due to my families recent financial situation, I will have to do it with my own money (which is lacking being the stereotypical college student). This summer I will have an Internship that will pay me a decent amount. If anyone has any tips on how to get a license on the budget of a college student, it would be very welcome!
  19. I am looking to contact the 122nd squadron (the New Orleans F-15 folks) to learn more about what they are looking for. However, when I went on their website (159th Fighter Wing) and called the number in the contact us page, I just went to the webmaster's voicemail. If someone could give me some direction on how to go about this, it would be much appreciated. I know talking to and meeting with the squad is very important to increase your chances as a candidate. Any response is welcome, I don't have many people around me who know much about the ANG and I've been trying to figure this out for a while.
