  1. Had to fight this off many times. Not sure about the other MAJCOMs, but the AMC sup to 16-1301 says flyers don't need to do this if they're good on HRI/CoC. 2.2.4.3. (AMC) Current acceptable courseware for level B CoCT is the SERE 100 CBT and will be available through the Advanced Distributed Learning Service (ADSL). Personnel who complete this training receive credit for SS21, SS26 and SS28. Target audience for level-B CoCT training are those who are not required S-V80-A Combat SERE Training listed in Table 2.1. All who are required S-V80-A Combat SERE Training are considered level-C high-risk of isolation (HRI), and do not need level-B CoCT training.
  2. Sort of... Check out AFI 36-2107..."All pilots, navigators, and air battle managers who began aviation service after 30 September 1997 will not incur any additional Advanced Flying Training (AFT)/Instructor Qualification ADSCs which extend beyond 10 years of continuous or cumulative rated service. Rated service begins at the completion of training and awarding of wings for the rated specialty. They will still incur Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Professional Military Education (PME), and other non-AFT related ADSCs." The fine print says the rule applies mostly to instructor and requal courses. The formal training office tacked on 3 years to my committment for C17 requal, even though it took me past 10. Went direct to AFPC and got it deleted. Doesn't matter for most of us because of the bonus. But if you're still on the fence, it might be nice to know.
  3. I'm at CHS so I can't speak for the other bases, but there's plenty of dudes that come in from FAIP/OSA assignments and get into airdrop. The window you hear people refer to is about the return on investment that your squadron gets from you after sending you through all the upgrades. For a guy straight out of UPT, there is plenty of time to get upgrades done and be a fully qualified airdropper for several years. As a second assignment guy, there's a tendency for commanders to be more concerned about positioning you for your O-4 board (exec, flt/cc, IP upgrade, deploy, etc). I don't agree with the system, but those boxes matter for promotion/school and being airdrop qualified doesn't. It will also depend on the PFT for the year and how many training slots your squadron gets. Some years there's enough that almost everyone can go if they want to...other years it's pretty lean. If you want to get into the program, let your DO know when you get there.
  4. Long time lurker here. I figured this could either go in this thread, or over in Force Re-shaping...so apologies if I got it wrong. Heard from a C-17 bro at Dover that the reserve crew ratios are getting cut. Sounds like they are going to try to handle this with normal attrition, but it still seems like a lot of people to get rid of. Anyone hearing about this at the other C-17 reserve units? Here's the numbers I saw in the FY10 plan: Reserve C-17 crew ratio reduction: SUU: -21 drill TCM: -73 drill/-4 ART CHS: -79 drill/-2 ART WRI: -21 drill RIV: -7 drill/-7 ART DOV: -21 drill
