  1. Having just gone through the application process, I can say that I’ve never seen “before 27” at any of the fighter units I saw. They were all before 28 and a couple that were said 28.5. I’m 27 and just got hired, so don’t give up on fighters if that’s your dream. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  2. That’s awesome! Good luck on the upcoming board! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  3. That’s awesome! There are so many good dudes I’ve met through the process that are struggling due to age. I’m glad to hear that they’ll get a good shot. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  4. Awesome job man! As for fighters, it’ll just be up to the unit. Some are more than willing to do an age waiver for the right guy and some won’t even interview. Just make sure your cover letter is good, and addressed to the right unit. If you want fighters, keep applying and you could get picked up. It might take a little bit of time, but it’s definitely possible. Just make sure that if you get an interview, you do all you can and knock it out of the park. If your are open to any airframe, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were picked up by a heavy unit within a few months. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  5. The current release seems to definitely be talking AD only, or else it’d probably say replaces 3.1.1.1 and 3.1.1.2. But that screenshot you posted looks like an unreleased copy of the next version of the AFI, which appears to have the same updated age limit for ANG and AF Reserves. I hope that’s the case on final release! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  6. I’m pretty sure this is only for those applying to Active Duty. It states that this replaces paragraph 3.1.1.1 in the AFI 36-2105. That paragraph discussed active duty age requirements, 3.1.1.2 discusses age requirements for ANG and AF Reserves. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  7. Unless you received that specific feedback from Oregon or Bogidope, I’m not sure I’d retake the AFOQT. Honestly, I think age was probably your weakness, which you can’t do anything about. Keep applying, but pick a date where you’ll open it up to heavies. Don’t give up on fighters though, I know a couple of guys that have been hired at fighter units while needing age waivers. 8. Just be yourself. These guys are trying to figure out if they want to spend the next 20 years of deployments and TDYs with you. If you know the insignia, you would be able to know what rank they are. If you see and bird or, for some reason, a star on someone’s shoulders, it’s a good idea to keep it to “sir” or “ma’am” when talking to them. But for everyone else, I’d just call them by whatever name they use to introduce themselves. Obviously stay respectful. Show your interested, and make sure not to look through people. They are giving you their time, so give your attention to the person you’re talking to. As for booze, your call. Jack, Makers, whatever, I don’t think it really matters. Grab a sharpie while you’re out and put a note on it with your name. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  9. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I was saying that if he wanted fighters to apply to all of the fighter squadrons. Not apply to every squadron, regardless of airframe. It sounded like he was only focusing on one squadron at the moment. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  10. I don’t know what the policy is with astigmatisms, but if you get PRK, it is a year before you are eligible. So if you need it, do it ASAP. But, ignoring the astigmatism, your vision doesn’t have to be 20/20. It just has to be correctable to 20/20 and can’t be worse than 20/70, I think. I’m applying for units now too, I’d say don’t limit yourself to one fighter squadron, apply for all of them! You’re young enough to be a little picky, but I would still apply everywhere that interest you. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  11. What would your PCSM be at 201 hrs? That helps give a good idea of where you stand. But I’d consider taking the AFOQT again. Make sure you study. I took about a month before mind, got a good prep book and studied hard. Then I took the practice tests, timing each section, each night. I’m almost positive that that’s a large part of why I did well. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  12. Awesome! If you haven’t already, I’d start a “What are my chances” thread. You can get some good advice there too! Check bogidope for upcoming boards too! Fresno and Oregon both have packets due at the beginning of February. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  13. Is anyone else going to Boise for the interviews this weekend? I get in on Thursday if anyone wants to meet up for a beer! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  14. It’s hard to say where you stand until you take your AFOQT and TBAS. You are getting close to needing an age waiver (I’m in the same boat), a lot of places assume youll need one of you are over 28 or 28.5 because of how long the process takes once you’re hired. Get your tests taken ASAP. Get an AFOQT prep book and work hard over the holidays studying. Take the practice tests and take them timed. The only hard part of the AFOQT is finishing everything in the time allotted. Once you do that, you can schedule your TBAS. There’s not much you can do to prep for it, but there are some flash cards online for part of it and other valuable information online if you search. Otherwise, you should do well. I wouldn’t waste much money on ground school, honestly. It’d be better to get even a little bit of flight time. At least try to solo if you can’t afford a PPL. Update here when you get your scores and I’m sure people can give you some more input! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  15. It depends on the board. Normally they give a general timeframe in their announcement. Most that I’ve applied to sent invites out about a month after the application deadline. One unit only waited a week or two, but that was not the norm.
  16. Don’t take the AFOQT again unless you got like a 20 on the verbal. All it could do is hurt your PCSM and I don’t think anyone cares about your verbal score anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  17. Haha I know it’s nerve wracking for us to wait, but it’s a pretty big decision for these guys in the squadrons too. It’s more important that they get it right than anything. That being said, I’ve been checking my email every 10 minutes for a couple of hours. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  18. Yeah, make sure you post your videos as “Unlisted” so people can’t find them by search. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  19. Not yet, I’m going to wait until Thursday and if I still have no feedback, I’ll send another email. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  20. I’m not sure if it’s required, but I sent an email telling him I’d be coming and asked any questions I had. So I’d definitely reach out. It can’t hurt!
  21. Just to be safe, I’d plan on staying later. Read the room and if everyone is heading out around 2, leave then, but if people are still hanging around you won’t be crunched for time. Try to have a flexible schedule. But if you’re going to Tulsa for Sunday or something like that, then that’s different and you just need to get as much time in both places as your schedule allows. 22. @ayz33 no, it’s the weekend after, the 13th-14th.
  23. Anyone else having trouble with their website. It’s been giving me an error and failing to load all weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  24. @Nash2018 and @kleveling, I’ll be there Saturday and probably Sunday. PM me and we can exchange numbers. As for booze, I’d recommend bringing it. Leave it in the car and if you feel that it’s appropriate, you won’t be left empty handed. And no need to be nervous. Just be yourself and know when to keep your mouth shut and you’ll have a good time!
  25. If you just send your resume, maybe update it and include your AFOQT/PCSM scores and flight time/licenses. That way you’re giving them what they requested, but it has the information you know they’ll want as well. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
