So PRFs or no PRFs for the P0418D line of the AF majors board?

On aside not, my CC was like I'm not congratulating these dudes from the last board. They didn't earn their rank. I busted out in laughter and I've grown to accept we are changing as a force. Let me know how it shakes out after I retire in 2 years. #NotMyProblem

    That’s messed up.

OCP is the ground pounder variant without the flaps on the upper sleeves and elastic waist Velcro. The pants have a different pocket arrangement and are not blouses. Almost all of the closures are zippered. Finally I have not seen any A2CU in the Scorpion W2 pattern, only Multicam.

    OCP is the pattern.

    ACU is Airman Combat Uniform.

A2CU is Airman Aircrew Combat Uniform.

Rather than realize that folks are in fact voting with their feet, the Air Force just tries to throw more money at them rather than deal with the real issues and complaints that folks have.

But the AF isn’t throwing money at anyone...

G550 has been greenlighted with two airplanes already ordered to replace the EC. The plan is to continue acquiring one airframe per year as we slowly replace and retire the EC-130H. The timeline is still fluid but there is no longer a hold on the contract.

How does the EC community feel about that? Guessing 2025ish is the end date?

Last I saw they turned that off. The Gulfstream is still slated to replace the EC-130 though.

What’s the timeline on the EC replacement?

edit: never mind. Google founds it. Looks like things are on hold while Boeing, Bombardier, and L3 protest so... who knows.

edit 2: blast. Tricked by Google timestamp. I guess L3 has the contract and needs to work out a contract for the GS?

They will continue to be burdened with nonner duties because commanders can’t seem to follow CSAF guidance.  They’ll waste time on being equipment custodian, security manager, Christmas party planner, unit piss test POC or whatever.  They’ll have no one to set them straight and teach them how to be pilots because all of our experience is running for the airlines, if they aren’t shackled up at the wing exec or DS office.  We are so f*c&ed.

Solution. Roll all support positions underneath the ops squadrons that they support. That would make them directly responsible to the Commander that needs to hack the mish, and more importantly, decreases the number of Squadron Christmas parties by the same number as support squadrons we get rid of, plus builds in volunteers for the ops squadron Christmas party.

Anyone know where the PSDM is? It’s not available on mypers anymore.

I heard they’re not offering it anymore, because it’s not about the money.

Flight pay is also being canceled, along with BAH in all locations where base housing is an option. There is also talk about capping pay at the Captain level. Since money is not important and you should only stay in to serve. (Forget about age 43 to 100... you won’t need money for that)

They were never told they had to say X or couldn’t say Y. They WERE told that going in with guns on the money issue would not play well, specifically with senator Cotton, who had made it clear he thought that the 20K bonus was plenty large enough, and that people should want to serve out of pure patriotism. Spending the meeting trying to convince him otherwise was not going to be a good use of time.

    . . .

They seemed like a good group of guys and I’m sure they said what they thought they should to improve things. I wouldn’t crap all over them because they didn’t go in demanding more money. It wasn’t going to be an effective message for that audience.

Friend of patient: "What is it doc?"

    Doc: "It's cancer."

Friend of patient: "Oh crap. Well we can't tell him that."

    Doc: "What? Why not?"

Friend of patient: "Well you can say whatever you want, but that won't play well. He has made it clear that he doesn't think it is cancer and trying to convince him otherwise is not going to be a good use of time. It won't be an effective message for this audience."

    Doc: "Uhm. It's cancer."

The AF knows it’s about money.  Every pilot at HAF has read the airline pay charts out of morbid curiosity and knows how much money is out there to be had.  But the story they’ve sold to Congress (with our help) is that it isn’t about the money, it’s about additional duties. So Congress (and Enlisted dreamers) think “if money’s not the problem, and pilots just want to fly with no officery  stuff, let’s bring black WOs and The Flying Sergeants.”

Please. Let’s not play the race card.

  10. "Air Force enlisted pilot implementation initiatives

The committee directs the Secretary of the Air Force to provide a briefing to the House Committee on Armed Services not later than March 4, 2019, on the plan to implement the enlisted pilot aircrew requirements of Section 1052 of the FY17 NDAA for the MQ-9 enterprise of the Active, Guard, and Reserve components of the Air Force. Furthermore, the committee directs the Secretary of the Air Force to submit a report to the congressional defense committees not later than April 1, 2019, on the costs, benefits, and feasibility of authorizing enlisted Airmen or Warrant Officers as pilots, navigators, or weapon systems operators on all Air Force aircraft or rotorcraft platforms. The report should also assess and explain any policy or guidance impediments that would preclude enlisted Airmen or Warrant Officers from serving as pilots, navigators, or weapon systems operators."

I hear you and I’m a fan of facts! Looking forward to reading the study you posted below. I’m not antiairline and the big money at all-just in the case I responded to (late rated with four years left) I bet the difference isn’t giant. And no, he won’t make $300,000 in his 40s. He’s probably right at 40 now making this decision.

Reread my post and I came off way more blunt then I intended. I actually didn’t intend to come off that way at all. Thanks for the moderated reply.

You’re right. 300k in 40s would be for a guy who gets out at end of UPT commitment.

If I offered you $1.6mm to stay in with the only stipulation being you could only take $50k a year of it out would you do it? I’d stay in personally if you can avoid 365 and your family supports.

Minor thread derail but people’s “expected earnings” stuff for the airlines never seem to discount to present value. In other words, the fact that by staying in a couple years you might miss a couple years of $300,000 in your sixties isn’t that big of a deal.

Google “net present value of an airline career vs military retirement” and read the first page of links... you’ll make a lot of net present value of an airline career vs military retirement” you’ll make a lot more money if you accept the facts.

    Try $300,000 a year in your 40s.

Agree. Ditto for airline X going bankrupt/out of business, or merging and the pilot group getting stapled to airline Z. Some things can't accurately be forecast/accounted for and will only be known at the age of 65. Medical status being one of them.

But I assume in these NPV spreadsheets, opportunity cost (seniority/longevity) is accounted for. Just curious what the assumed value is. And what the assumed probability is that one loses a medical or goes to an airline that goes out of business, thereby negating and resetting seniority/longevity. Anecdotally, I would think the odds seem to favor being able to see an age 60-65 airline retirement and an airline not going bust and/or getting stapled (or some other seniority losing event), but I have zero data on that.

My calculations show that getting out at 12 YOS, joining the Guard and flying for the majors for 8 years, then “retiring” from both, murders the active duty check of the month club if you have the discipline to live on senior captain pay and save everything above that. If you suck at saving or investing and need someone to pay you twice a month then you should not think about getting out.

Second best scenario, again purely by the numbers, is staying until 20 and then flying for the majors for 7 years. If they’re still hiring...

Of course, in either case, if you continue flying for the majors until 65 you’ll just be stupid filthy rich in retirement... as long as you don’t spend $200,000+ a year.

BUT this doesn’t account for QOL or job satisfaction. If you love coming to work everyday in the worlds greatest Air Force then getting out might not be worth it to you, even for a Ferrari or two in your 70s.

This is why I don’t understand why people like goldfien. He doesn’t have a grip on the reality he is partially responsible for creating and absolutely responsible for mis managing now. He thinks money won’t help? He thinks that the sq’s are revitalized? And he’s so wrong. So completely wrong.

On the other hand, what's a guy supposed to believe when literally every time he sit downs to get the ground truth he is told that money won't help?

  15. I would never voluntarily leave my family for more than a few months... the military will involuntarily force you to leave them a lot more than that over the course of a career and that is time you will never, ever get back. And then you die. Better to be on your death bed with kids you raised and had the joy of watching grow up. I would say try to find a way to keep them with you. If you can't do that... stay with them.

No.  I believe the criteria was posted already.  IIRC Anyone with 45 consecutive days or more in the last 5 years goes to the bottom.  Number of short tours, STRD, and ODSD are then used.  So in your example you'd very likely not be a candidate.

Right. I’d be at the bottom of the top candidates, with the 45 day-only guy at the very bottom. Makes perfect sense.

So in a recent webinar with our AFPC reps, we were told some useful and interesting information to help stave off that 365.  From the functionals, at least 45 consecutive days deployed will put you on the bottom of the 365 list for 5 years.  So, if you're an attached guy worried about that looming 365, see if you can't offer some guest help on a deployment (or even half of one).

It does not protect you from any of the multitude of 179s out there, though.

So you can have 5 short tours, but if you were lucky enough to get a break for 5 years (or if you are in a job where you're TDY a lot, but never "deployed") you'll be at the top of the list, with guys that have only ever deployed 45 consecutive days in the last 5 years.

Tha AF and all their clever equations... *facepalm*

Those of you who are SAPR or resiliency appointees can be rest assured I will self report and do my sensitivity CBTs tomorrow morning.

AND automatic DNPs for anyone who does it prior to their third look for in res.

Only exempt those who request not to be looked at for in res.

We don’t want people to become commanders who are willing to waste their time... because they will likely be willing to waste everyone else’s too.

Been wrong all this time! What are the locations for C-12 white jets?

    Yokota and Elmendorf.
