  1. So as a 1LT currently at the FTU how concerned should I be about this?
  2. Give the guy a break. He is doing the best to get feed back from flyers on this issue. For that he deserves to be commended....yeah it seems odd that a non-rated dude is writing this AFI, but credit where credit is due.
  3. The only information I have from when I was in Pcola was that they are taking experienced EWOs only. It isn't an option out of training, at least at the moment.
  4. Let me think.... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=air+force+growler Yes. ETA: I thought they were all Strike Eagle or B-1 dudes that went to this. Aperently I was wrong: Source: http://www.military.com/news/article/air-force-news/air-force-ewo-graduates-navy-growler-training.html No idea what the process is to get the assignment.
  5. Yeah you bastard, I worked my ass off and you still got better grades than me. This post brought to you by too many drinking games this evening
  6. Why? There is no reason to start a Masters while in UFT. Any time you take away from studying CSO stuff and keeping yourself sane, will hurt your grades in both academics and flights that will ultimately decide where you go after you get your wings. I just don't see a reason to do it then. You will have literally years to get it done after you are winged. I see a great deal of cost, with no benefit.
  7. Again I completely agree. I also don't think anyone made dream sheet decisions based solely on instructors they met. But if someone was teetering on what to choose then I'm sure it would have some effect. CSOs also have a bit of an advantage over their Pilot bros in getting to know different aircraft's missions. Due to the setup of the syllabus as well as having access to classified information and the much dreaded integration exercise. I went in wanting fighters but by the time I was done with the T-6 phase I had decided what I really wanted was AFSOC thanks to the information I had available to me to learn more about the mission of AFSOC platforms. Similarly I don't think anyone went in wanting RC-135s, but after getting to know about the mission it became a pretty sought after aircraft in my class.
  8. This is absolutely true. But if all the experience a stud has with a community is negative, then it shouldn't be shocking they get turned off to it. I completely agree. That's what I and the majority of people do/did. But again if all someone sees of the fighter community is ICSOs/IPs who are a bit on the tool side then that is the only data point they have. This is not to say all Fighter instructors are douche bags. That certainly is NOT the case. Two of my favorite instructors came from that community, but a lot of their bros were complete tools. And I think those particular examples really stick in peoples minds as opposed to the good ones.
  9. With the new goal being 100% in res for SOS, will the correspondence course still be a pre-req for attending?
  10. Two possibilities. 1. Dude wasn't number one and is blowing smoke up your ass 2. Dude was number one from his grades, but was such a douche nozzle his flight cc decided to fuck him sts My flight commander was a Strike Eagle dude, he tried to encourage people ranked high to consider the F-15E but that was about it. He did his best to match people with the airframe of their choice according to class ranking. Almost everyone was happy with the results and I think everyone thought the process was fair. It was also transparent, if you wanted to know your no shit rank in the class he would tell you. Not all Flt/CC's did that leading to some people in other flights thinking they were ranked a bit higher than they probably were. ETA: Another third possibility, atleast for the fighter, is if he failed the FACT.
  11. I can only speak for my class, but only two of the four F-15E's we got went to the top third. And I'm pretty sure one of them went to the bottom third. I was in the top third and had no interest in Eagles or Bones. I know that community likes to think everyone wants to be them but that just isn't the case. Not bagging on them, just saying they don't seem to understand that not everyone wants what they want.
  12. Well judging from facebook there was atleast a Strike eagle, a Buff, and a Tanker. Hopefully someone can fill us in on the rest.
  13. Ooooooooh. Now I get it. TIB is just a way for Guard guys who are really, REALLY desperate for money to get a steady paycheck for a year.
  14. Just saw in a media source that shant be quoted/re-posted on this site that it is indeed official. FACs are dead. Never had to deal with one. Spent the first couple years at a Navy base and don't have to test again until after the FAC is gone.
  15. Just about any 'solution' you come up with for determining health-risk, be it waist measurement/BMI/whatever, will always be screwing someone. We are an organization of 330,000 people. So anything you come up with is going to shit on someone that doesn't deserve it because there is no one size fits all health assessment. I think we should just dump the waist measurement/BMI crap and just add those points to the push ups and sit ups. I say that as someone who benefits from the current system. So any news on getting rid of the FACs or are those just rumors?
  16. I'm at the MC-130H school house right now as a recently graduated CSO. The instructors here are still kind of figuring out how to adjust the syllabus, or if to at all. There are only two Pcola CSO's here, both obviously EWOs (Talon's can't be a first assignment as a Nav). I don't know how we compare to RND grads, but so far there haven't been any major hiccups/setbacks. Lots of questions about what was/wasn't taught at Pcola from the instructors. The flow of the FTU will be very familiar. Start out in Qual academics and sims taught by contract instructors. Then you hit the flight line for your Qual flights. After that you return to academic/sims for the Tac phase. Then return to the flight line for Tac flights culminating in your check ride. On average the whole process takes about 6 months depending on many factors. The community has been very welcoming. They will give you as much help as you ask for, but also expect a great deal of studying on your own. Was there a DOR from a Pcola grad?
  17. Is there a catch? It seems anyone who just wants a box-checking Masters should be all over this. Or is it just not that well known?
  18. Anyone got the info on the drop from tonight?
  19. Did BQZip help with the slides or were you his competition for DG? But seriously I like your idea.
  20. Goddammit. Gas just started getting less expensive. On a more serious note, if this plot had come to fruition and Iran not only killed an Ambassador on our soil but killed dozens/hundreds of Americans at the same time would there have been any non-war options? This could have been fucking ugly if it wasn't stopped.
  21. Damn! That's a nice drop. Much more variety than the FY11 drops. Were both the MC's Shadows I take it?
  22. Cool. Thanks for the information.
  23. I'm PCSing to Kadena and I know I can't have firearms so I already sold mine but I'm doing some packing (TMO comes on Friday) and forgot I have a paintball gun. Is it ok for me to bring that to Japan? I know they have a strict 'no weapons' policy but was curious if a paintball gun would count. If so....anyone want a Tipmann A5 in good condition?
