  1. Is there somewhere on my online TSP account that I can see if I'm contributing to the Roth TSP? I believe I selected that when I set it up in November, but I don't see any indication on their website as to where my money is going, besides the normal funds. All Roth info on the TSP site is just referencing "future changes"

    Thanks.

  2. ** AIR GUARD Does anyone know the rules (ie reference an AFI) about breaks between UPT and school house? Initially told my training at my base that once i start upt my orders would be continuous through seasoning but now my guy is saying since there will be longer than a month break between upt and intial qual that i will have to come off orders! Does anyone know anything or have experienced anything like this?

Have you talked to anyone on the ops side of things? I guess money is tight in today's economic climate, but it seems like they should be able to find something for you to do on orders. If it's a break between UPT and your schoohouse, don't they have to PCS you back to homestation first and then PCS you to school if they're going to have a break in orders? Seems expensive.

  3. I'm on base, they're not bad to work with....they take out the rent relatively quickly in the beginning of each month, and they fix mx problems within a few days.

..God help you if you let your backyard fenceline get out of limits during the few summer months when we have actual grass however...

  4. Are you currently in the military? If not, then "permission to proceed" does not apply to you; You won't be able to apply for the waiver until you are 21 however.

Don't be nervous. Barring any complications from the surgery, LASIK waivers are pretty standard these days.

  5. Hey guys,

I'm in my second year at college and though I could start AFROTC in Sept, I'm leaning more towards the Guard / Reserve side... I just have a couple questions... I know that the guard usually have 1-2 slots available per fiscal year... Is the reserves the same? How many people usually apply for slots within the unit (average I guess) I live near the McGuire Base so I'll be applying to the Refueling Unit in that particular base...

I'm not sure if I should go guard or reserves... Any suggestions?

Simple answer: every unit is drastically different.

I know that's not the answer you were looking for.......

  6. To take things in the opposite direction:

About ten years ago when I was a young teenager I had low blood pressure which lead to dizziness and occasional fainting when standing up too fast. I never had any periods of unconsciousness, nor did I suffer any head injuries (I'd typically just land on a couch or sit down on the floor if I felt one coming on). I refuse to lie to a direct question, like those about blood pressure and fainting spells, so I plan on disclosing this info. I have had totally normal blood pressure ever since. Should this be a problem trying to get a UPT or CSO training slot through OTS? Waivers needed? I couldn't find anything elsewhere to say this was the case, but thought I'd ask here. Ditto for Navy pilot/NFO.

    Thanks!

There is absolutely no way they'll let someone with dizzy/fainting issues due to low blood pressure anywhere near an Air Force jet (nor should they). Period dot.

If you haven't had an issue with this in 10 (!?!) years, why on EARTH would you even consider mentioning it?

  7. pilot4 -

I had LASIK done. I was sponsored by a reserve unit a few years ago, and did the same process. After MEPS, my recruiter called me and said "Your vision is outside the limits pre-op, so you cannot be a pilot. Period. Dot."

This is where being informed about the regs will work for you. I told him, that is incorrect, then I cited the reg that was recently updated to show that my pre-surgery eye sight was JUST at the limit for FC1. He thought about it for a minute or two, then reluctantly said he would forward it to the AFRC top flight surgeon guy and see what they said. I faxed him all the applicable regs, with the appropriate sections highlighted and underlined.

1 week later I got a call back saying I was approved to go to brooks.

Get in the regs. Learn them. CALL brooks, talk to someone there and see what they say. I would find it hard to believe that they can DQ you based solely on a crappy MEPS depth perception test. Your looking to provide your recruiter with information to pass up the chain to get you a brooks date. It IS possible to do.
