  1. How about they reduce the SKE wing requirements, since that's what everybody is trying to wrap up at the end of the year? Even better....make a decision about the J and SKE: certify the damn thing (and back it up with TCAS & radar) or cut the training requirements.

Legacy SKE boxes have plenty of ghosts, too.

  2. You'd get your per diem (meals and incidentals) and whatever it cost you to keep your RV on base (parking, electric, not sure about the rest). Interest/RV payment? Probably not. So if you've got a big pimpin' RV that's better than a hotel room, it might be a better deal. But they're still only going to pay you $.50/mile or whatever to get it there.

  3. I would highly suggest reading the book Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War. Absolutely outstanding read.

    2.

SOS is teaching both the OODA and an 8-step decision cycle that they're trying to pawn off as an expanded OODA. Boyd might just be spinning in his grave - the whole point of OODA is to be able to make decisions faster than your enemy. If you can do that, you win the first few and get them to question their strengths, which causes them to spend time re-examining their position and makes them slower at decision-making.

  4. I'm currently flying slicks and heading to the J initial qual TDY course next week. Any gouge on what to bring with me...ITS, pro gear, copy of flight records maybe? Kind of in the dark, any info is appreciated. Thanks.

ETCA has all the info. Flight records, pro gear, no pubs. Gov't laptop provided for CBTs and PFPS.

  5. TIB is a retention tool

Kill TIB and keep the TBirds. Now with the AF kicking people out left and right, recruiting isn't the biggest issue. We have enough people to fill the ranks. We need to still focus on quality recruits though.

This is darkly funny. AFPC probably wants to keep TIB so that people voluntarily leave. However...they're driving away the people that "get shit done"!

  6. Part of it is they havn't increased the amount of guys going to Corpus, but they have changed what Corpus can drop. Now people are getting U-28's, MC-12's, UAV's, NSA etc. on top of the herks, whereas it used to just be herks. Still need to get those herk pilots from somewhere and they are getting less of them from Corpus now.

What? You mean they figured it out that everbody that wanted to avoid UAVs was tracking T-44s?

  7. Two minutes later, a WWII B-24 Liberator lumbered past as my jaw hit the floor. I *think* there are only two of these things still flying, turns out the Collings Foundation was bringing theirs in for an airshow. Pretty cool sight to catch up-close for a rather green student pilot. I'm sure the look on my face was classic.

Cool bird. I've got some shots of that bird and their B-17 laying around my place somewhere; they showed up when I was knocking out IFT in my last semester of school. One of ém needed an oil change and I had just upgraded to a half-ton, so I ran them to another town to pick up a couple of drums of oil. They has space left on their next B-17 ride, so they quietly got me on board, so as not to piss off all the folks that had paid lots of good money to get a ride.

  8. Hey guys,

I tried looking through this expansive thread and did a couple of searches, but came up with squat. I am in the market for a .22 pistol. I like the Walther P22, but it is too small for my hand. I want something that resembles a tactical type handgun. I'm not a fan of the Ruger line of .22s. What do you all think?

Browning Buckmark. I got to shoot a target model with a very sweet stock trigger.

Edit...not so much on the tactical, though.

  9. First, I want to say that my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti. They already had it hard enough and this disaster will do nothing but make their lives even more difficult than it already is.

That being said, any word on what the Air Force is doing for relief efforts? Who gets to go?

Is it possible for a casual LT to volunteer to go down there and help out for a few days?

Keep these people in your thoughts...

I'm not going to say it won't happen, but-

-Unless you're with a unit that's going to go down there and and be on the ground (get the airport running), nobody's going to lift a finger to move a guy that doesn't have much more to offer than manual labor. They've got plenty of that already. Civil engineer that knows French? Might be a different deal.

-Hope you've been prescreened on anti-malarial meds, because that will be a requirement.

-Good on ya for wanting to help. For lack of better options, find who's going to try to drum up aid locally.

  10. Understand that I've killed this forum...hate that. Not sure what else I can do for you to 'convince' you that I'm a Sq CC. F'king disgusted that a little feedback kills it all.

    REMF

I think Zip's voucher for ya stands. And I don't think you've killed it. The Reflective Rant seems to have dried up for a bit as well. Either people got scared or the pushback worked for a bit.

  11. Hearby nominated as official theme video for the thread...

    I Love Guns

    Anchorman+The+Legend+of+Ron+Burgundy+DVD+Movie+Review.jpg

Where'd he get a grenade launcher and a RPG?

Had to go back and watch again....He pays USD for a right-drive car and drives it on the right side of the road, yet has the Aussie flags and what seems like a light Aussie accent. Maybe the whole thing was filmed elsewhere.

  12. renovating the cadillacs

Does this mean that they finally fired the five TCNs they had building all of the caddies and hired a construction company? And that at least one of them is operational (without black mold all around you?)

  13. Really....you brought he who shall not be named into this discussion......this just went south even faster than I had thought it was going.

It was the stink of "I know how it is now" that clued me in.
