  1. I've got the whole tux=mess dress part. I was more concerned with the appropriateness of wearing my uniform while standing in the bridal party of a civilian wedding; but I just found the "Mess Dress Etiquette" thread which addressed that concern. Thanks for the help guys!

  2. I just bought a second hat.

It was funny hearing some non-flight suit wearers complain about how we weren't in regs and needed to zip our zippers, only to be told a few days later that they needed to button both buttons in their ABU cargo pockets. They didn't think it was so funny to be on the other end of a silly rule.

I also had a pocket hat.

  3. I see squadron smoke lounges popping up in the near future. Perhaps a green smoke light that comes on at 1500 hrs?

The cultural evolution (or revolution?) in the past 2 years make me feel real old...

It would actually turn on at 1620.

  4. No the safety board doesn't read you your rights...they try to get you to talk and answer their questions. Don't talk to them. Always ask for legal counsel.

A safety investigation has no legal authority to do anything, that is what an AIB is for. Either you talk to the IO, get privilege, and have faith that they system will work and bros will learn from your mistakes. Or, you don't talk to the SIB, the IO has to either A) Be really good and figure out what happened on his own, or B) nobody ever knows and whatever happened will repeat itself, possibly with a deadly outcome.

If what Day Man is saying is true...because in reality him saying that the AMC/CC used privilege to make a punitive decision is pure speculation, then I would hope there is enough integrity in the safety system that people are going to be fired and answering questions about a breach of privilege.

Bottom line: we have privilege so that we can all learn from each others mistakes and make an inherently dangerous profession a little more safe. Get your privilege statement (you will always get it in writing because you are required to sign documentation), talk to the IO, and have faith that the system will have your back.

  5. Any words on whether or not the next SOS class will go? Word is the guys in the class that just ended got sent home early with the Gov't Shutdown.

True. We were told on Tuesday morning that we had to be gone by COB Wednesday. My buddy who was in the November class told me that it was cancelled, but I haven't heard anything official.

Also, my flight commander there said that in March SOS is going back to 5 or 6 weeks.

  6. Like I said previously: the 91-204 ch. 3 details contractor/non-rated personnel access to privilege. If you have a legitimate need to know, i.e. sim instructors or depot maintenance, the local safety office can give you an NDA...but that is their decision.

  7. umm, what? Anyone who has received their annual privilege briefing and has a need to know (read: all aircrew definitely have a need to know on this one) can read the SIB final message. Other services will need to go through their Safety Center to request a copy. For the general public, you will need to wait for the AIB.

I was responding to the guy that said he was retired. Anyone other than aircrew, I.e sim operators, can read the reports but have to sign an NDA per the 91-204 3.7.2.

Also, the report has been withdrawn by afsec. Projected release per amc/se is 22 July.

  8. At my last unit, if we wanted to read a safety report, the safety shop printed them out with the caveat to personally hand them back later that day or the next day for accountability. I just in processed to a new unit and they flat out refused to even pull it up saying we had to have a "need to know" which is determined by Wing Safety to the squadrons, and then there will be a mass brief to the squadron.

This strikes me as odd... I pulled up 91-204 and got this:

This the new norm or an AETC FTU "perk" ?

That is your FSO being a little over-cautions about protecting privileged information.

  9. The runway is definitely not new! They keep it repaired enough to be used but just barely. The Russians will probably still take over after we leave.

We tore up and replaced 3,000 feet of one end last summer. The plan was to do 3,000 feet on the other end this year, but I do not know if it is happening. That leaves 6,000 feet in the middle that is junk. The accelerometer would peg both limits on takeoff roll because of how crappy that runway is.

  10. The media is presenting that they will be delivered in 2016. Hence the quotes from the articles...from the media. I am failing to see why everyone is flabbergasted that I said 3 years when every one of the sources that I read is saying 2016.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if we get them in 2016 or 2020. They are going to the bases previously mentioned, and any further information on the KC-46A can be posted in this thread.

Edit because me and Jack do grammar good.
