Best AFSC for applicants?
I've seen a lot of the AD guys who get picked up come from either the Nav world or Aircraft Mx. Engineers also seem to be pretty popular.

More Rated Requirements (c-12)
Anyone know if it'll be an AFSOC or ACC asset?

Ops and Maintenance officially combine
Looks like another Moseley plan in the trash... Maintenance shake-up put on hold By Bruce Rolfsen - Staff writer Posted : Tuesday Jul 1, 2008 16:12:35 EDT The move to reorganize maintenance groups and missions support groups —which was supposed to start today — is on hold. Acting Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley issued orders June 27 setting aside the changes until he has had time to discuss them with service officials and decide if realignments are needed. “Secretary Donley directed the delay in order to have an opportunity to discuss the appropriateness and timeliness of these changes with Air Force senior leaders within the context of today's new realities,” the Air Force said in a written statement to Air Force Times. There was no word on when Donley anticipates making a decision or if he will consult with chief of staff nominee Gen. Norton Schwartz. Just two weeks ago, before Donley became the acting secretary, Air Force officials were expecting wings to begin making the changes July 1 and to be done by November. Outgoing Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley has been the prime proponent for reorganizing wings. But with Moseley set to leave by Aug. 1 as part of the shake-up of Air Force leadership ordered by the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Donley shelved Moseley’s plan. The proposed changes — called the “Global Wing Structure” — would have moved airmen assigned to fighter, bomber and rescue aircraft maintenance units into flying squadrons. The crew chiefs, weapons loaders and other maintainers had been in maintenance squadrons. Aircraft maintenance units assigned to special operations and mobility wings would not merge into flying squadrons Air Force-wide, the reorganization called for the creation of wing-level “materiel groups” and the disbanding of the maintenance groups. Each material group was to have included back-shop repair squadrons that had been part of the maintenance group, plus the wing’s aerial port squadron and logistics readiness squadrons that had been under the mission support groups.

What if you WANT to be a Helo pilot
Seems to be at least 1 helo in every drop at UPT. We got briefed before track select that if you're planning on putting T-44 or helo's 1st to let them know a couple weeks out so they can try to trade with other bases for enought slots.

Commercial pilot, good or bad?
I wouldn't wastle the money/time to become an airline pilot unless that is something you want to do. Building hours and experience is a great thing however you do it. I have multiple people in my class who we're desk jockey's before getting selected for UPT. That being said it is extremely difficult to get a UPT slot out of OTS. You may consider looking into the ANG or AFR and applying with them, that's what worked for them...just my 2 cents

?s on logging flight time
Having a PPL is common for AD board guys, but is not a pre-req. If it was then they'd list it as one. You can make up for limited hours by having a kickass pilot score on your AFOQT and doing well on the TBAS. Those 2 scores combined with your flying hours equal your overall PCSM which is really the key to getting selected by the AD Board. If you can pull over a 90 PCSM then you'll be pretty well setup. All you'll have to do from there is write a good 215 and hopefully have some awards to include in it. Remember the AF is looking for well rounded guys to pick for UPT. Just my 2 cents...Good Luck!

Columbus AFB Information
I have a couple married classmates that don't have 2 cars and it's a big pain in the ass for them. You'll be showing up and leaving at different times then other people throughout your training. If you take that car then your wife is suck at the house all day. You can bum a ride here and there, but it'll get old quick. If you have 2 cars, definitely bring them.

Reactive Airway disease
The AF did my methacholine challenge test at Wilford Hall while I was in ROTC. They submitted my results to AETC/SP and DoDMERB to get me cleared. I tried all the other routes first, but without taking the test they wouldn't give me the time of day. The test measures your normal breathing and then your breathing after asthma inducing medicine. You can have a reaction, but not more then 20 or 25% change from normal breathing. Once they clear you you're good for any job. I head to UPT next week. Good luck! PM me if you need any other info.

Reactive Airway disease
I'd look into doing a methacholine challenge test to prove you don't have asthma. Only tests/records mean something to the AF...doc note's don't carry weight.

Help with AF215
I used OPR bullets on the back side and wrote not OPR style bullets about my desire to fly on the front side for last year's board and got picked up. I looked at a bunch of good 215s before writing mine and that seemed to be the general style. Just my $.02

Asthma (and waiver) info
I don't know about the Allegra or allergy shots. This post has just been dealing with Asthma which will DQ you after the age of 13. Allegies are not disqualifying in themselves. I'd consult AFI 48-123 which is the medical reg. If you pass the methacholine test then you don't have asthma and you can fight for the waiver on the grounds of a misdiagnosis. It's not an automatic thing, but instead something that will take a bit of effort on your part.

Asthma (and waiver) info
Asthma is non-waiverable, but if you don't have asthma then the history can be waived. All you have to do it prove it to DoDMERB. I'd put together all your letters, offical records, and test results into a package with a cover letter explaining your situtation. Submit the package to DoDMERB through your Det/CC. It'll carry more weight that way.

Asthma (and waiver) info
Doctor's letters are good, but the AF won't care about them unless you take the MCT and pass it. 16 should not be a factor if it was not asthma and just seasonal allergies. You'll still need the test to prove your case though.

Asthma (and waiver) info
Don't give up! I had asthma in my record after the age of 13, got a waiver, and head to UPT in Oct. I had to prove I didn't have asthma and that the doc misdiagnosed me by taking the methacholine challenge test and submitting the results to DoDMERB. Once the waiver was granted to commission it never played a factor again in passing my flying class I or in my selection to UPT. It's in my record, but is just listed as a wiaver. Feel free to PM me with more of your details if you need help.

Exception to Policy (ETP) information
I'd get with a flight doc and have him do up a new aeromedical summary based on your recent exam at Wilford Hall. It'll then be resubmitted to AETC/SGPS for FCI reconsideration. I just went though this exact process and got an eye waiver that I have been fighting for almost 2 years to get. Don't put all your eggs in the ETP basket without fighting for a waiver or reconsideration first!

Asthma (and waiver) info
I went through the same exact thing and am on AD now. I had an asthma record up to 13 and then nothing after. After praying and begging for 2 yrs I got sent to Wilford Hall for a full pulmonary exam to include the the Methocoline Challenge test. The Good Lord was looking out for me and I passed everything with flying colors. Tell your friend not to give up! The AF is great and well worth all the waiting! A few prayers would definitely help out too! Let me know if I can be of any help.
