Flying the T-43?
yeah, but being a rated job you'd think they'd do more to promote greater SA and air sense during training and then let them go be CSOs once they get to their FTU. ah well. i'm not in charge. [ 06. August 2006, 11:37: Message edited by: Airp ]

Flying the T-43?
All this talk of GPS and movie watching during training sorties makes me wonder what kind of nav the Randolph program is producing.

Navigator/CSO future
You may not be doing traditional "nav" duties nowadays. I think (except in the AFSOC world) that most navs can easily be replaced by computers as you mentioned earlier. Hence the name change to CSO. Since the AFSC formerly known as Navigator is now more of a system operator - a la WSOs/EWOs and now your CSOs. They name change will probably take a few generations to kick in and be accepted around the Air Force, but the aircrew position will still exist in some form.

The Columbus cheating scandal
Ah the gouge - there's definitely a distinction between the buddy system and word of mouth gouge versus flat out cheating. "Cooperate to graduate" - After all, cliches wouldn't be cliches if they didn't hold some water (read: booze). EDIT: spelling [ 10. June 2006, 21:47: Message edited by: Airp ]

New tracks out of P-Cola
Some guys selecting out of VT-86 in pcola are getting slotted as F-15E EWOs and others as WSOs. The EWO guys will supposedly go through the 563d before reporting to Seymour for the B course.

New tracks out of P-Cola
Gen Looney (AETC Commander) was in Pensacola on Wednesday. I did a demo for him on our radar sim, and while we were sitting in the sim one of the O-6s following him around said that in FY07 they are going to take away 5 strike slots and add an extra 5 slots for strike-fighter.

TPC charts
Here's how it's done: Maximum Elevation Figures (MEF) are computed by the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) and take into account both terrain and obstacles. If the highest feature within a latitude/longitude grid is terrain, NIMA adds 200 feet to elevation, plus the vertical accuracy of the identified point. This value is then rounded to the next 100-foot value. If the highest vertical obstruction (man-made) is higher than the highest terrain elevation plus 200 feet, then the MEF is computed using the elevation of the obstruction plus its vertical accuracy, then rounded to the next higher 100-foot value. What is critical to keep in mind is that the MEF may give over 200 feet or less than 50 feet of clearance, and does not ensure absolute clearance of terrain or obstacles. for example: 3^1 means the highest feature within that grid is between 2901 and 3000 feet.

Best Officer position besides pilot
Hands down -- Space and Missles. You get to wear space wings now.

Navigator to pilot
For navs that go pilot: do flight hours as a nav count as flight hours towards PCSM score when you put a package in?

The Altitude Chamber
A few years back the commandant of cadets at my rotc det was able to hook up a base visit to Andrews AFB and get all the cadets on a chamber flight. Also some of my buddies that were going to get hops in some two seat Vipers had to get their chamber qual while they were still cadets too.
