  1. I have just installed a trial version of the Chat Module into the forums - you can see the option now available in the top menu, on the far right (next to DOWNLOADS). It is fully integrated (same username/password, etc.) - you never have to actually leave the forums. The single limitation right now is that a maximum of five (5) persons can be active in the chat room at once. You can see how many are active at the very bottom of the forums, right below where it says "Currently XX Users Online" it will say "Currently XX Users on Chat". If this module proves popular and members recommend, I can increase the online chat users number - it is simply an additional cost and will be seamless.

However, as a trade-off, I respectfully request the users of the forums assist me in updating several out-of-date sections of the site:

1.) C-130 Schoolhouse at Little Rock

    2.) AFOQT

    3.) UPT Phase II (T-6)

I've uploaded word document versions of the above three webpages and ask that users edit those documents (please indicate changes in RED FONT) and re-post the attachments on this thread. Thanks in advance and I look forward to a current website and a popular chatroom.

  2. I can certainly accomodate. A while back, we had a chat room feature available on baseops - albeit a crude one and not very aesthetically pleasing. There is a module that is available that is fully compatible with this forum's software backend (Invision Power Board) that I can purchase and plug-in.

I will do so shortly - but in the meantime, I will request help in editing a few portions of the site that I am no longer a SME in that need some desperate attention. If I can have a few "humanitarian" aviators out there help me out, I will install the chat option. I will post details on the sections I am soliciting volunteer help shortly.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. OK fellas - we've done some work on the servers. Over the past long weekend many upgrades were installed/tweaked.

    Please let me know if:

1.) you experience any new or recurring old problems

2.) you find the baseops experience any speedier or more efficient

  4. Sorry guys - working the issue right now.

It's been a challenge trying to synch up the server-side support guys along with the forums software support guys. Maybe I'm not paying them enough?

Bear with me and we'll get this thing fixed and speedier.

  5. Part of it is if you leave that site up, and someone finds it a year from now after you are done with T-6's, it could be a lot different then what the current boldface is. Also, if someone is a year out from pilot training, and downloads that and memorizes it and assumes thats how it will be in a year, it could bite them a little when they are relearning boldface. I think he is just giving those guys a heads up.

It isn't an issue for you as much if you are already there and have access to the new boldface as it becomes current.

That is precisely why I stopped posting T-6 gouge on the Baseops.net site (lots of angry student pilot mobs burning effigies of Baseops when the BF became out of date...) Things were never constant for that plane - being so new, seems like the Dash-1 is constantly being revised...

  6. Thanks for the heads up - the permissions for this feature defaulted to zero.

I just allowed for "Reputation Points" to be used by Registered Members - and the quota increases for Super and Supreme Users.

  7. Thanks for finding the spam links -- they have been removed.

You do not have edit rights because you are a "New User" -- after several posts, you will become a "Registered User" and receive rights to most of the site...

NOTE: some of the formating of the wiki has changed in this latest forums upgrade (font size, carriage returns, etc.) -- we will have to comb through and edit these ourselves...

  8. The movers are fully responsible and should/will pay - you should have received the contact number to the "TMO Inspector" -- their QA-type representative. This person holds the movers accountable. My last two PCSs (including last year), the rep actually showed up at my house to oversee the movers briefly and answer any of my questions...

Either way, contact TMO and have their QA person show up, take photos, get truck driver's card/name, etc.

Will probably be a long process (as all Gov administrivia is), but they should pay for the repairs.

BTW, where you moving to? A nice retirement home in THE VILLAGES?

  9. It is true, the Caravan is not known for its speed - but it will give you some good station/loiter time (admittedly, I have not flown the armed -208 variant that is much heavier...)

Fantastic little plane to beat up a dirt LZ with (and VERY forgiving).

  10. All,

I have been feverishly working on standing up a new (more modern, feature-rich) site to post all of the aviation jobs.

Voila! GuardReserveJobs.com was born in April and the doors finally were opened last night. All of the previous (200+) baseops aviation jobs have moved over to this new site. Why the new site? The old site, although functional, was cumbersome and lacked functionality. The new site (guardreservejobs.com) looks like a monster.com and shares many of those features - database driven so you can search by crew position, geo-location, keyword, etc. Users can create accounts, post resumes, etc. Employers (units) have full control over their own Job Vacancy listings and post them live directly to the server. I could go on and on...

Let me know what you think...

  11. Had this condition several years ago - had to option of taking the pills (would have DNIF'd me back then) - instead opted for the topical treatment (apply Selsun-Blue creme over affected area) and it worked! Bottom Line - the pill will DNIF you while you are on the meds; topical ointment will not.

  12. http://www.baseops.net/jeppesen/

Just noticed that link on the main page... What's the deal with this, how is baseops involved? (the link on the main page points to a baseops site, not a jep site).

A friend of mine is a Reservist and also works for Jepp -- he told me about this program and provided details. I simply put it all on a webpage - since Jepp did not have a webpage dedicated to this offer...

    Break -- Break

For the Young-Bucks out there that want to learn more about the historical context of DOD FLIP versus Jepp plates and their use by USAF, read up on the AF 737 crash in Dubrovnik with Commerce Secretary Ron Brown on board (Jepp approach without required navigation equipment on board) in April 1996 and the subsequent investigations and cover-ups. For you consipiricy theorists, check out this article about the Brown crash.

  13. Just started Crossfit this week. Wanted to change things up from my usual workout - and it has been a change indeed! The workouts (so far) have been good with a lot of soreness being inflicted. Definitely a change of pace and I am usually winded and in the feeble three-point-stance when I am finished. Fosters healthy competition too, which makes each workout interesting. I also like the fact that I won't know tomorrow's workout until I log on to the site tomorrow (can be an unpleasant surprise!)

  14. i'll be there too, but just as a lowly spectator... maybe in a few years, I'll come back and revive this thread with something good...

I'll be at MacDill as well. Hope to hand out copious amount of Baseops.Net neck lanyards to all supporters out there.

Also anticipating my kids shoving tons of FOD into unsuspecting throttle quadrants of static display aircraft!

  15. Yeah - you need to be a Major-select. Then all you have to do is apply via the AU secure website (via the Portal).

I don't give out any career advice since I'm not a Company Man like Toro, but I would recommend guys sign up for this course right after they get their line number. Waiting too long can hurt you - IF you have aspirations to be selected for School in residence as an O-4...

You hit the nail on the head, though -- this program is great for slackers like me that never got their Masters (following the guidance of Johnny Jumper) then suddenly realized there was work to be done... Kill two birds with one painless but annoying stone. Guess it will take another VMI-grad SECAF to remove the silly Masters requirement again...
