  1. I wouldn't be surprised if Iran targets this US Base/capability located in Israel????

    - “Site 512,” the longstanding U.S. base is a radar facility that monitors the skies for missile attacks on Israel."

    - "Site 512, however, wasn’t established to contend with a threat to Israel from Palestinian militants but the danger posed by Iranian mid-range missiles."

The official numbers have been released. For the first time, Zalensky discloses that Ukraine has suffered 31,000 troop losses since the beginning of the conflict. He also revealed that Russia has suffered over 180,000 deaths and close to half a million in casualties. At this disparity, the war should be over soon. Remember, the tax deadline is Monday, April 15th.

I'd start pumping propane (heavier than air) into the tunnels followed by a Zippo. Not that there aren't enough ignition sources already there.

The IDF might try to rapidly fill all these massive underground tunnel networks with saltwater. Park a couple dredge barges off the beach (in the med) connect large pipeline to nearest tunnel opening and start filling these shithole tunnel networks with water. Here's one of many examples:

And the countries taking massive casualties in WW2 had far healthier demographic structures at the time. This war is the end of Russia for practical purposes. Lose half a million young men you absolutely cannot spare, cripple another half million, and drive another million to flee the country (and those fleeing are probably the best educated), and combine that with crippling demographic echoes from WW2 and the fall of the USSR... they're toast.

It doesn't help that the Russian government views a large and growing portion of its population (anyone not ethnic Russian) as not real Russians.

Russians dug & lived in trenches in the Chornobyl no-go zone. As long as Putin believes the radiation won’t reach him, he doesn’t give half a fuck. I absolutely wouldn’t put it past him to stage an accident/terror attack at Zaporizhzhia. Also, if the Russians would be affected by a radiation plume, the Ukrainians are going to have it much worse. Why on earth would the Ukes be the more likely instigators using this logic?

I would recommend that the UN/NATO/EU/etc start broadcasting/posting maps - updated daily (Recommend a minimum of a 5-day, weather based, forecast map).  The maps should show the potential downwind hazard areas if any of this Nuke Power Plant Reactor Cores/Cooling Systems/etc swiftly go into the wartime meltdown mode: The maps will probably look something like this =

No retirement or pension, so I try to max out both (employer-sponsored (with some matching) traditional 401K and private Roth IRA through Vanguard). I realize not everyone can do that (we're DINKs), so it's strictly retirement planning with no inheritance considerations. I plan to draw both when the time comes assuming I make it to that age, which should be a lower tax bracket than current. Let's hope social security is still a thing then too.

With the current banking crisis heating up there's the potential things could get really stupid over the next couple days/weeks. If folks have cash stashed in banks, brokerage firms, U.S. Treasuries/Bonds (Treasury Bills, Treasury Notes, Treasury Bonds, or Treasury Inflation - Protection Securities - TIPS), Other Bonds (Municipal, Corporate, etc) - now would be a good time to double check what type/amount $$$ of insurance coverage you have. Vanguard doesn't have any FDIC protection/coverage but they do have 'Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC)' insurance. Me and my wife also have cash being held in separate Vanguard ROTH IRA accounts. These two ROTH IRA accounts are currently in the Vanguard Federal Money Market Holding Fund (VMFXX) and each account has 500K SIPC insurance protection (Total coverage = 1 million). I also have brokered CDs with Vanguard but the commercial bank they cut the deal with provides the FDIC 250K insurance coverage for the CDs. Here's some info on Vanguard SIPC and secondary insurance:

under SIPC rules, IRAs have their own insurance that is separate from taxable accounts. And Roth IRAs are separate from Traditional IRAs.

If you have 2 IRAs at Vanguard (one Roth and one Traditional) and 2 taxable individual accounts, you would have a total of $1.5 million of insurance. The retirement accounts would have a total of $1 million of protection ($500,000 for the Roth, and another $500,000 for the Traditional), and the taxable accounts would have another $500,000 (but not $500,000 for each).

But if one of the taxable accounts is a joint account, it would have its own $500,000 limit, which would produce $1 million in total insurance for the taxable accounts.'

Vanguard does have an auxiliary insurance policy through Lloyd’s of London and London Company Insurers. It adds a second layer of protection to a brokerage account if, and only if, SIPC protection is exhausted.

The secondary insurance policy is good for up to $49.5 million per account. There is an aggregate maximum of $250 million. That means the insurance policy will shell out a quarter of a billion dollars at most across all accounts that have maxed out SIPC coverage.

Thanks for the Vanguard CD info, I think I’ll wait another 3-4 mos.  Take a look at their Federal Money Market rates - just over 4.5% last week VFMXX.  Daily dividend, pays out every month.  Been with them for many years, no complaints!

FYI: I have a non-callable Brokered Vanguard CD at 5% and it's a little different method of payola then a regular bank CD.

    - A regular bank CD valued at $100,000 with a 5% APY has a 4.88 dividend rate with a APY total of 5% profit.

--Example: 5% APY totals $5,000 in profit/your bank CD value after 1 year = $105,000

    - A Brokered Vanguard $100,000 CD at 5% works in a different way.

-- Example: At the end of 1 year the Vanguard 5% CD also pays out $5,000 in profit (monthly dividends) just like the %5 bank CD. The Difference is the Brokered Vanguard CD $5,000 in annual profits is "ALL" deposited (monthly dividends) into whatever "OTHER" account you select.

-- FYI: All my Vanguard %5 CD monthly profits are also deposited into VMFXX and todays VMFXX rate (27 Feb 23) is currently set at 4.52%, up a little from the Jan 23 rates.

  9. Vanguard Brokered CD rates this PM. Put a few 20mm holes through it and it still drifts quite a ways (international waters complicates recovery), get closer and you give it potentially more chance to capture data from the F-22, and gunning an object going that slow is incredibly difficult with low probability of success and increased risk of midair (and at 60K I can’t even imagine, even in a raptor).

This method was attempted and failed back in 1998 for a very large-stray weather balloon.

When a Weather Balloon Went Rogue Two Decades Ago, Fighter Jets Fired at It but Couldn't Bring It Down | Military.com

'Almost 25 years ago, a large runaway weather balloon proved to be quite challenge a for a pair of fighter jets trying to shoot it down, staying in the air even after more than 1,000 rounds were fired at it. The Balloon passed across Canada, over the Atlantic Ocean, and through British airspace before entering Iceland's airspace and then drifting northward.'

'Two Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 fighter aircraft spotted the balloon over Newfoundland and fired more than 1,000 rounds at it. The AP reported that the jets, Canadian variants of the American F/A-18 Hornet, hit the balloon, but rather than popping or exploding and crashing to the earth, it slowly began leaking helium. The big balloon was still in the air. The balloon, BBC reported, also survived encounters with British and American aircraft.'

Question, because I am not smart on tanks.

We've seen Russian and Ukrainian tanks repeatedly dumpstered by anti tank weapons throughout this conflict, so is there any reason to think the same won't happen to the abrams and leopards getting sent over there?

Do western tanks have vastly superior countermeasures or something?  Just not really seeing how a few dozen western tanks are going to last long out there or honestly make that much of a difference.

Today IMHO - I don't believe any tank is anything but a rolling coffin. Are we going to provide these Ukraine gifted M1 tanks with modern DU 120mm rounds (120mm APFSDS-T) M829A3 and A4 Carts?

We've done this a few times in the recent past/here's just one example and the results: 'Between 2010 and 2012 the U.S. supplied 140 refurbished M1A1 Abrams tanks to Iraq. In mid-2014, they saw action when the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant launched the June 2014 Northern Iraq offensive. During three months, about one-third of the Iraqi Army's M1 tanks had been damaged or destroyed by ISIL and some were captured by opposing forces. By December 2014, the Iraqi Army only had about 40 operational Abrams left. That month, the U.S. Department of State approved the sale of another 175 Abrams to Iraq.'

  16. The SPR is a well-known US Crude Oil Stockpile but there's also a lesser-known US Diesel Fuel Stockpile A.K.A the US Diesel Fuel Reserves/Northeast Home Oil Reserves. Back in May of this year Biden planned to release Diesel Fuel from this critical Diesel Fuel stockpile to help cut the high cost of Diesel Fuel. I'm not sure if Biden actually tapped into this stockpile back in May to help reduce the cost of Diesel Fuel/could this POTUS move back in May have something to do with the current Diesel Fuel shortage and Diesel Fuel (home heating oil) rationing in the Northeast States?

Biden Exploring Release of Diesel Fuel Reserves Amid High Prices

The Biden administration is considering a release of diesel fuel from federal reserves to address skyrocketing prices and the threat of supply outages on the East Coast. Officials have drafted an emergency declaration as prices have soared to record highs in recent weeks, White House spokeswoman Emilie Simons said on Twitter on Monday. Such a declaration would allow for the quick release of some of the 1 million barrels of diesel in the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve

  17. Some video of the pipeline damage (IMHO, more closeup video/photos/the other half of the damaged pipeline section/etc, etc - would help figure this out): it sure looks like a very clean cut. This has the possibility of being an externally applied flexible linear shaped charge attack/the external detonation Initiation point is around the 2 o'clock position?

"The steel pipe itself has a wall of 4.1 cm (1.6 inches) and is coated with steel-reinforced concrete up to 11cm thick. Each section of the pipe weighs 11 tonnes, which goes to 24-25 tonnes after the concrete is applied."

  18. 'Visa, Mastercard, AmEx to start categorizing gun shop sales'

Payment processor Visa Inc. said Saturday that it plans to start separately categorizing sales at gun shops, a major win for gun control advocates who say it will help better track suspicious surges of gun sales that could be a prelude to a mass shooting.

Visa said it would adopt the International Organization for Standardization’s new merchant code for gun sales, which was announced on Friday. Until Friday, gun store sales were considered “general merchandise."

Visa’s adoption is significant as the largest payment network, and with Mastercard and AmeEx, will likely put pressure on the banks as the card issuers to adopt the standard as well. Visa acts as a middleman between merchants and banks, and it will be up to banks to decide whether they will allow sales at gun stores to happen on their issued cards.

    Etc, etc.
