Outcomes of dropout/SIE (Self Initiated Elimination)
VFR800 replied to a topic in General Discussion
Sounds like she doesn't have a f*cking clue what it's like to be a military wife (girlfriend?). LET HER GO. Is there a kid on the way? Unless you have a wife and kid pending, SIEing for some girl you're not even married to would be the dumbest idea ever. Keep in mind women come and go (YES, they do), but UPT is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You're going to hate life and want to choke yourself daily if you SIE because of her and then she dumps your ass because she expects you to be chipper and well-rested for the rest of your career. If she doesn't get it now, she never will. If you SIE, you'll be reassigned some other career field. It's a crapshoot what you'll get. Whatever you do, get all the personal shit sorted out before UPT or it's going to f*ck you and you might even wash out because of it. The military doesn't give f*ck all about your girlfriend, so unless you have a wife and/or kid, don't expect any sympathy from anyone. -
Standard AETC is to expect Thurs and Fri off. You should be able to fly home, but don't expect to be able to leave early on Wed, and you should be back Sun afternoon for crew rest. Speculation only, but probably very accurate speculation.

Your squadron commander will have to give you a hazardous activities briefing and sign a form. A PITA, but not prohibited...although what's the point? It's not like you're going to have time...

The whole premise of this thread is fvcked...

What base are you coming from? They are doing a "cost comparison" and probably determined that it's more advantageous to the Man for you to fly. You can still drive and you shouldn't be charged leave, but you will not be reimbursed for more than the comparable flight itinerary, which should include one day of travel, plus airline mileage, plus ticket cost. This is usually itemized when your voucher is processed. You'll probably still come out on top if you drive, but lodging/gas/etc. for those permissive days is not going to be reimbursed.

A decision on that was deferred to focus on "more important" uniform issues such as "Blues Monday."
-
You won't get equipment issue (including boots) until 1-2 weeks prior to UPT start date. You will be issued flight suits for IFS (if applicable), but not boots (you'll have to wear whatever boots you have, even if not flight approved). They are still issuing black boots to studs at Vance with no plans on "upgrading" to the pukes AFAIK. Just wear BDUs and use the boots you have...no idea why you'd want to buy ABUs if you're going to be in flight suits and blues in a few short months. But, most casuals here seem to buy the ABUs, and you're probably going to have to buy the boots to match if that's what you want. BTW, buy any uniform stuff you need before you get here...the BX here is pathetic.

Two members of the Blue Angels kicked off the team

Didn't see that one was married, but it figures...this kind of sh!t happens all the time. If you're going to be an idiot, at least try not to get caught. -

Certainly would...if one was your supervisor or in your chain of command. That's a no-no. -
Anyone have a clue what this means? If we're currently paying the $100/mo. for the MGIB are we just throwing money away? Is there any reason to opt into the MGIB anymore? The FAQ says once you use the 9/11 GI Bill, then you can't get benefits from the MGIB. What about the other way around?....if you use the MGIB first? Is there any guidance on this?

Correct...you need only pass a FC1 and commissioning physical. I suppose if you were tubbo and obviously out of shape, the interviewer could rate you down for "appearance" or something, but that's about it. This is for off-the-street civilians. Not sure how it works for AD enlisted -- I imagine fitness would be reflected in performance reports and your commander's rating.

No PFT before you enter. You have 1 baseline and 3 diagnostic PFTs while at OTS. There's an official PFA at the end of the course that you must pass to graduate.

There was a slick to Pope out of T-1s at Vance for 09-01...but the chance of getting a AFSOC 130 out of T-1s is around 0-ish.

For the purposes of TBAS, all that matters is hours. A PPL may be considered in the selection process....I don't know how a sport pilot rating would count. During UPT, no ones going to give a crap about previous hours or ratings. Everyone will suck equally as much.

+1 -- I also filled out this form to get mine...this was a few months ago.

Education/Student Loan questions (SCRA, repayment)
VFR800 replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
It's called a military forbearance, and some lenders offer them. Usually it's only for a year, and you can renew it for up to 3. Ask your lender if they offer this. I know the Dept of Ed does. -
The flight physical is usually done between selection and getting an OTS class date. You will not be able to get a class date or report to OTS without a certified physical. The only unknowns are the last few tests at Brooks -- this'll happen between OTS and UPT report. Search for MFS or Brooks, but it's not usually something to worry about.

?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
VFR800 replied to FreudianSlip's topic in General Discussion
ADSC for pilot is 10 years from the date of winging. If you don't graduate UPT, you don't incur the 10 year ADSC. -
You can request a military deferment. All payments will be deferred but interest will still accrue. You can also use the SCRA to get the interest rate reduced to 6% if you received the loan prior to entering the military.

Just look it up...it's not rocket science. From https://www.baseops.net/militarypilot/physicalfitness.html:

I did my FC1 2 weeks after mine were pulled and had no problems. I had all 4 done, so I definitely wasn't healed when I went -- it shouldn't be a problem. I brought a letter explaining that I just had them out and he listed the drugs and dosages administered for the anesthesia just in case there was a prob with the drug screen (there wasn't). If your civ dentist says they need to come out, chances are they won't clear your dental until you get it done -- you might have to go back or have a letter faxed from the surgeon. I did mine at Travis. Good luck!

I really liked the Shoei RF-1000. Quality lid and it didn't break the bank. A little windy, but that may have been my bike more than the helmet. It's all about what fits you best. Shoei and Arai have a slightly different fit that depends on the shape of your head. Both are good brands...
