Leadville
Are you loco? Leadville is the profile for every Herk refresher sim/MOST mission I've done, and those never have a very happy ending! It always ends up with #1 windmilling, #2 feathered, zero hydraulics, a 25-knot xwind, freezing rain, a stuck compass card, tumbled ADI, and an NDB to a no flap landing.

Good military/aviation books
I can't believe no one has recommended "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest K. Gann. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

?s on logging flight time
It's fair to say that most AC's split Primary & Secondary time with the CP in the Herk, regardless of who was the sole manipulator of the controls. Watching SCNS drive the autopilot while your AC has the radios hardly passes the common sense test of "in command" time. But good luck with explaining that at your interview.

FRE-E-DOM!
If Gen Wald's alleged shenanigans concerning his urgent business at EDDS to trump Doc's ride are true, then God Bless America! I would have loved to be working C-21 current ops that day. I just wish Doc was forced to fly space-A on a Herk (complete w/ wing cracks while praying we don't encounter moderate turbulence, an engine shutdown or two for kicks, and relying on the ADF for navigation). That would give him the time to think of a few things he should have spent his, I mean OUR, "Combat" money on. His cadre of ass-clown henchmen that are now out of work should use their remaining days in USAFE wisely. You know, drive around the countryside, take in the sights, and think about how things would have been different if their regime had been tasked with fighting a war 65 years ago.

Aviation jokes
It's more of an old urban legend in USAFE rather than a joke but here it goes... Overheard at Franfurt-Main years ago: American Airlines 555: "Frankfurt ground, American 555 clear of the runway at taxiway Bravo, requesting progressive taxi to transient parking." Sarcastic Herm controller: "American 555, can't you see and hear that I am too busy right now to provide progressive taxi instructions to someone who should obviously know where to go...haven't you ever been to Frankfurt?" AA 555: "Sir, I've been to Frankfurt many times but that was back during the war and I never landed" And the crickets chirped.
