Probably so, that or Eurofighter will make a strong push
Also, more information on this decision than any normal person would ever care to know...

The inevitable happened.

Question is now will this cause other marginal participants (Denmark, Norway, Israel, etc..) in the program to cut bait and run?

Not sayin' that... just commenting on a break in preferences with the last fighters the RCAF has had...

Yup, assuming the program is truly TBTF and will be continued if sequestration kicks in. Suprised they didn't go with Rafale or Typhoon since they have traditionally wanted two engines (and half the cost) when you are way out over the great white north but to each his own...

Canada officially cancels F-35 order

Nice concept but not developed yet and would take some time to get done, the report referenced delays as one of the main factors in not recommending the F-35, along with price and lifetime cost of operation...probably wind up being a bit pricey after unexpected problems are encountered and fixed along with extra time.. 100 million (projected) for an SE vs 67 million for a SuperHornet.
I think they are looking for 4+ Gen capability with the lower risk of several years of operations already... so the SuperHornet or Eurofighter... just my $.02 I think the SuperHornet is what it will it be, go with what you know..
